I still don't even think this game is that "dark", I think anyone who has seen a fair share of stuff online can appreciate Pale Carnations, only people that stick to the most vanilla harem boring stories might get put off by this game.
There are a few scenes that could gross you out like the Veronica punishment in the prologue but once past that there's really nothing that bad lol, some people exagerate about how "dark" this game is imo.
Eh, I'm not sure about that. Yes, thus far we haven't seen anything truly crushing, but the game isn't over yet. There's no question in my mind that if the MC sides fully with Kat it's going to get pretty bleak for our heroines. That's likely to be a fair bit darker than most of the popular games could get in a 'bad' ending.
Moreover, the game goes to some effort to acknowledge the darkness of its situations. It never revels in that darkness (thank heavens!), but it spends considerable time establishing the desperation of the various girls and examining the effects of that desperation on them. It doesn't play that desperation for cheap laughs either, a distinct contrast to, say, Maat's antics in
Eternum.
PC doesn't dial the darkness up to 11 or trap us in endless loops of despair, but darkness is certainly an essential element of the story. To me that makes it a dark game, but I can see why other people might draw the lines differently.
