To be honest I was one of those who ignored this game for some time because of this reason even though this game is number one on f95 by rating. When I finally decided to try it all the reasons why I ignored this game were simply drowned in the positive aspects which made me regret that I had not started earlier :(
I still don't even think this game is that "dark", I think anyone who has seen a fair share of stuff online can appreciate Pale Carnations, only people that stick to the most vanilla harem boring stories might get put off by this game.

There are a few scenes that could gross you out like the Veronica punishment in the prologue but once past that there's really nothing that bad lol, some people exagerate about how "dark" this game is imo.

you say that but i wonder why does this masterpiece of a game have so little discussion when compared to other games on this site?
probably because it’s not really a power trip harem like eternum, for example
My hypothesis is that it's usually "older" players that like the more kinky games, such as PC. Since they're older they're often also more civil in the game threads.
A dev that joins the discussion probably also helps.

This is obviously generalising a lot so take it with a grain of salt.

I agree. Sometimes stereotypes like these prevent people from trying something really worthwhile.
Who would have thought that in a "dark" game dating would be several heads above in vanilla games? IMO

Everywhere I go I always see some people complaining against vanilla games... guys, everyone has their own tastes and interests, both in the perverted genre and vanilla.

Let's just enjoy the fact that the last days before the new year came out with an update of one of the best games such as Eternum and PC. 1000146761.png

Its a very dark game, its just presented in a very sheltered way. rich clients, seemingly 'eager' to participate girls. etc.

In order for any sort of climax in the story its almost a guarantee that they will destroy that 'shelter' to create something to overcome and create a 'victory'.

regardless its a compelling story and thats why it became so popular.

Eh, I'm not sure about that. Yes, thus far we haven't seen anything truly crushing, but the game isn't over yet. There's no question in my mind that if the MC sides fully with Kat it's going to get pretty bleak for our heroines. That's likely to be a fair bit darker than most of the popular games could get in a 'bad' ending.

Moreover, the game goes to some effort to acknowledge the darkness of its situations. It never revels in that darkness (thank heavens!), but it spends considerable time establishing the desperation of the various girls and examining the effects of that desperation on them. It doesn't play that desperation for cheap laughs either, a distinct contrast to, say, Maat's antics in Eternum.

PC doesn't dial the darkness up to 11 or trap us in endless loops of despair, but darkness is certainly an essential element of the story. To me that makes it a dark game, but I can see why other people might draw the lines differently.

It is not the darkest thing ever, but it is pretty dark, and part of why is not that dark is that MC is young adult that is not doing the worst things, the dark things are happening around him mostly in background or in past. He is not causing them. Kate is doing the explotations, the manipulations, planning the shows, and developing sex drug. You have the Warren beating one of the whores and she is scared as hell of him, that is hella dark, and for me probably the darkest thing this game has. Charles has perticulary dark shady history. Samson was the one planning and nudging along Veronica's financial troubles, in darker AVN we would have MC doing it. August did something to the Killiam's friend and girl he ran away with (probably killed them).

The darkest things we will probably be able to do is Full Deal Rose and then not aknowledge that deal and make her lose. And taking on Kate's path.
