Its a very dark game, its just presented in a very sheltered way. rich clients, seemingly 'eager' to participate girls. etc.

In order for any sort of climax in the story its almost a guarantee that they will destroy that 'shelter' to create something to overcome and create a 'victory'.

regardless its a compelling story and thats why it became so popular.
If you think *this* is a very dark game given whats out there, I dont even know what to tell you other than log off immediately.

It is. As Fuzzy Nuts J pointed you out, the way it presents people and facts and how the story is told just softens everything... until it hits hard, like when you see that sadistic evil grin on the Old Bitch's face, that evil mad look in Uncle Chuck's eyes and when Warren talks about how he enjoyed beating that girl.

Should I remind you guys that the 3 club owners are sociopathic criminals? that the club patrons are a bunch of "ugly bastards"? that all the club girls and the 3 Carnations are totally under their mercy and the only people who can help them - somewhat - are Edwin, Ian and Hana (may God help them)?

Thats real life, so you are saying real life is dark, yes it is.
I am not saying this game is dark, but there are darker games. And as you said, how story is told softens, lot of ppl will not analyze it

It is a mildly dark game to me. Yes there are far darker games out there, games I love even, but that doesn't diminish what PC is doing.

Of course there are games which are even more intense in this regard, but it doesn't mean this game isn't 'very dark'. Just like full-scale genocides don't make a mass murder any less of a heavy crime.
Depends, a genocide for example is a shoot in the head or quickly killing (not all) but a mass murder could be much more darker, torture, cuting off limbs, rape and burning alive

Mildy dark, I would probably prefer to use the word kinky for this game. Kinky and Romantic at the same time. An unusual combination attracking folks with different interests.

It is not the darkest thing ever, but it is pretty dark, and part of why is not that dark is that MC is young adult that is not doing the worst things, the dark things are happening around him mostly in background or in past. He is not causing them. Kate is doing the explotations, the manipulations, planning the shows, and developing sex drug. You have the Warren beating one of the whores and she is scared as hell of him, that is hella dark, and for me probably the darkest thing this game has. Charles has perticulary dark shady history. Samson was the one planning and nudging along Veronica's financial troubles, in darker AVN we would have MC doing it. August did something to the Killiam's friend and girl he ran away with (probably killed them).

The darkest things we will probably be able to do is Full Deal Rose and then not aknowledge that deal and make her lose. And taking on Kate's path.

I'd argue it's noir. Film noir. Dark themes, Moral ambiguity... It's one of the things that Batman, Dick Tracy and movies like Casablanca get into.

You aren't the hero trying to help out everyone. You're in it for yourself and your own motivations. Sure, you can BE a hero, but you're in a situation where corruption and more powerful entities are on the take and you have to keep your wits about you before you get killed.

Ultimately, it influences the story where the ones that don't learn the lessons of this world pay the price. And that's what people are seeing. The monsters are just off screen and by the end, you see them and our hero may not make it. So you see if you can survive with what little humanity you have and try a bit more to hold onto that and maybe help a girl get on that damn plane.
