It is you who misses the parts of the story. The circle jerk scene is the way to get back to the competition even if the Carnation loses the first part. And the first part is set like a lottery in the way that anybody can lose it.

What makes you think Felicia has any aspirations or delusions of becoming the equal of the other members?
All she wants and needs is a connection, the chance to talk to them, and maybe a shared interest. The club provides all of that. She doesn't need their respect. Hell, she'd probably prefer they don't respect her. Would make manipulating them all the easier.
We don't know what else she has in store, what other plans she developed after Elias rejected her pleas for help. I'm very certain she does have something in store though.
