It's not that I'm not exposed to enough varying styles of English, but moreso that one isn't commonly used in 2nd person. 3rd person sure. Every one of those other terms of endearment you mentioned are used in 2nd person vastly more than "guy", and the fact that a number of people in this thread stated the same thing kinda proves so. Now if "my guy" were used instead, that would be different. It's not really a problem to me; I was only saying that I understand why others feel weird about it's usage.This is the weirdest hang up people have... if this seems weird to you, you need to expose yourself to more colloquial use of English... It's a perfectly normal generic term of moderate endearment/affection for any dude. Just like pal, bud, buddy, bro, chief, king, friend, homie, holmes, bub, and probably a zillion others I'm drawing a blank on atm.
