The dev is EXTREMELY reliable with updates. Major updates take about three months since the last update, plus the occasional minor update which tend to be around a month since the last update. v3.55 was a minor update at the beginning of October so v3.6x should happen in January (remember the holidays). The dev is also very good with communicating progress, including when things outside his control cause delays.
The game already has dozens of hours of gameplay, even if you stick to the Main questline and skip Side content. (But where's the fun in that?

Incest and bestiality content are not in the main game due to patreon rules. Install the Spicy (incest) and Gnomes (bestiality) mods to add those back in. These are safe to add. Other mods, and directly editing game files, have a strong risk of borking the game and are not recommended.
There are two big cheats built into the game. Freddy's Corpse gives cash and potions, and has an item which makes the MC seriously overpowered if you equip it. Pink Mushroom disables Affection loss for all girls except one (who has repeatable quests depending on her Affection hitting rock bottom). Another, minor cheat is only usable for your dungeon "pet" if you add her. Let us know if you want more info on the cheats.
There is a discord for the game if you like (some people choose to not do discords), which is remarkably friendly and helpful. The dev does participate on it occasionally, mostly when people report bugs but sometimes for other things. It has a supporters-only section as well.
There's a walkthrough. The first part is fan-made up to about v1.61, and then mini-walkthroughs by the dev for content from the updates. Parts are outdated and/or incorrect due to changes in the game along the way but it's still quite useful. Someone on the discord is supposedly working on a new walkthrough.
EDIT: The earliest images and animations you encounter are (usually) the first ones the dev did, and have the lowest quality. He's gotten significantly better which can be seen in later images/animations. He's gradually updating the early stuff...v3.55 updated one of the earliest image-only scenes to current quality and added animation to it.

even if there is a new version, than you just copy over the old save folder, that is how easy it its.
so far i could get a save from version 1.5 loaded on 3.55 so no worries.
is there a bug on new play throughs regarding Frida and her sister? The son is already born, but she keeps asking me to find her sister, and I can't get the bed guy to deliver her 6 beds.
That sounds weird. Attach a copy of the save file with the issue so someone can look at it.
Did you edit the game files? That can bork stuff you didn't mean to affect...
