Dev this was a very good start. I genuinely felt emotionally invested in the characters. And the story setup is decent as well.
So please please please do not pull an Acting Lessons. I could legit almost not finish that game.
Thank you for the feedback, it is greatly appreciated! I'm glad you enjoyed the first chapter.
I absolutely love Acting Lessons. In fact, it was Dr. PinkCake who sort of inspired me to get into game development. I messaged him one day asking if he needed a writer, and he pointed out that he did *everything* in his games on his own: coding, writing, all of it. It blew my mind that he was able to crank out such a high quality game in such short intervals while doing everything solo, and that's sort of what led to me trying it myself. Prior to that I planned to just write games for other developers, but he made being a "solo dev" sound so easy.
So don't get me wrong: I truly
love that game and pretty much everything the Doctor touches. I'm a huge fan.
With that said... I feel your pain about Acting Lessons. I'll say the same thing I believe I said in his game-thread:
were way too far out of left-field and seemed rather gratuitous. It's almost like they were thrown in just for the "shock factor," and they didn't contrast well with the rest of the story at all.
The biggest criticism I had, however, was that they were
unavoidable.
Something the fans of my game will quickly learn is that I enjoy writing drama and raw stories that will play on your emotions... but everything that happens in said stories happens for a
good reason. You wont find any "random shock factor drama" thrown in... if something tragic were to happen, it would make sense along with the plot and would be the consequence of various actions rather than just a misstep.
But most importantly, something that will
almost always be the case in the stories I write: said events will depend entirely on how you play, and often (not always) are avoidable. I know it's a porn game, but I enjoy creating reflections of the real world and want players to remember that 1. actions have consequences... and 2. some things are just out of our control.
That said... I'll try to go easy on y'all, but Polarity's future is planned
well ahead of time.
