Do you realize it can't be this way, because something like this only happen in a bad ending, and bad endings are non-canon so what happens in bad endings doesn't affect the canon story? Sterling discovering Hunter's methods in a bad ending is quite useless for the canon story, it should be in a canon event of the game.
