Think of it this way. This is not exactly a rework, since he said he might revisit the old game at some point. Therefore, there is no point in keeping the same model. Since the princess is different, the story is different (At least that's the impression I got), the model should also be different. Is the old princess iconic? Absolutely! But it makes no sense to keep the same princess, if its not a rework. And if the princess is not the same, then the model can't stay the same. She is similar, since the game is based on the previous game, but also a little different to make her unique. Personally, I can't say which one I prefer right now as I haven't seen much of the new princess.
Its futile to disucss if this model is better or not.

We need the first play and after this everyone can make their decision if they like it or not.
Before that, everything is just whining.

No chubby princess? He genuinely lost my interest. That was the main appeal for me. Just comes across as generic corruption with more mechanics/hoops that will make it take a couple years longer to complete now. Stuff like this is why I'm increasingly jaded about blowing money backing h-devs early on.

Well, if this is indeed the new look of the princess, I much preferred the previous one
I'm not saying this one is bad, but imo she simply looks a bit generic. Victoria already had a lot of character in the look itself

However, the possibility of fancy camera movement with UI hiding looks great. Also, the simple style of the UI itself really appeals to me. I don't know if the icons were made by X-Dew, but they very much add to the style

I'm not a fan of restarting/remaking projects, especially when the dev just wants to overhaul the mechanics of the game and slowly works through the story again but it different mechanics/characters/etc. The best time to do that is when a project is very new and there isn't much story developed, so that finding the right gameplay method can be a priority (like realizing that Ren'py is better for a visual novel story format, or RPGM for a more involved open-world experience). When the dev just stops a project halfway, goes radio silent for several months, and does a remake for no reason, it just feels like a cash grab where each update just has a few new renders or mechanic that just delays progression for the sake of milking the game's fanbase.

We had just gotten to a turning point in the game, where gobbo would proceed to corrupt/woo the princess after getting the belt off. If the dev wanted to slow progression and get more content, he could have involved the knight, witch, queen, or any other characters for several updates so that we don't knock up the princess too fast and finish the game. Don't really like backing devs that pull this sort of BS, and not gonna sub again unless a significant amount of the new game is released considering the dev might just drop the project again.

Remaking the game with even more complicated systems when he couldn't even get the simpler systems to work properly sounds very silly. And completely redoing all the art and story makes it even worse. If it's not a milking scheme, it's an awful idea that won't ever be finished. Oh well, it happens.

To be fair this is generic pose. During conversations she should be more expressive. But yeah I preferred the previous version.

For those who didnt read the posting of the dev on Patreon:

He made his point of view clear, and I like to follow his arguments.
When dev started, he had no xp, now he has a lot more, skilled enough to handle a more complicated system impo.

There is no milking from devs side, coz supportung is voluntarily.
And it is the right (and the possibility) for every supporter to leave Patreon from one month to the next (in case one feels milked). I support (again), and non-supporters shouldnt blame supporters for supporting, impo.

That hasn't stopped people attacking other creators.
Milking starts in my opinion, if you dont bring content or so mini-changes that it hurts (The Promise). Lets see how the first release is and how much times is in between the next release and how much content is added.

Again: Wait for the first release. Everything else is whining.

True.
And ppl who are not satisfied, they do not support. Simple as that.

It's not even close but I agree she's not bad.

In my opinion, Princess in the Tower is one of the best games in its genre. The slow, thoughtful pacing, the ever-changing storyline, and the genuine emotions of the characters — it all pulls you in completely. Among the countless games that are as predictable as a washboard, this one truly stands out like a gem.

Unfortunately, I can’t support the project on Patreon due to sanctions. When I tried to bypass the restrictions (just for this game!), Patreon noticed and, sadly, terminated my account — one that was very dear to me. :-(

Still, I’m really happy to hear that development is continuing. That truly makes me glad.

Unfortunately seems like the weight gain got scrapped, even though it was one of the initial pitches in the first place that made the game a bit different from the generic corrpution + rpg mechanics type games. If dev is going to have their vision pushed around by a couple patrons (I say this as a former backer who didn't realize that was even a poll that was put out in '23), I can't see this going anywhere. All the best to dev, but seems like they're tacking on more stuff/mechanics that will make the game take longer for updates/completion.

Also that soundtrack was a banger, and I doubt we get it back for this one. (Especially that high tempo fast paced track that would play when you were going around the castle).

I really liked the first one, but I'm not really seeing what the game is at this point. Seems more RPG than h-game with how "Princess in the Tower II" is described. If x-dew wants to just make an indie rpg he should just do it. I'd give it a look.

I'm just strongly doubting that someone who went full no contact with his patrons (to the point speculation they died was going around with non-zero plausibility) really put in all the time he claims he did to put out a "better" game. Apologies for being skeptical bordering on rude, but seeing is believing.

Hey everyone, to be honest I wasn’t planning to announce anything until the first release was ready. Few months ago after my break, I didn’t really want to say I had started working on a new project especially knowing that not everyone would be happy about it. But as it often goes, everything ended up taking much longer than I expected. Now that the hardest part is finally behind me, I felt it was the right time to share the news and give you a small preview. And exactly as Rolo said, supporting is entirely optional, and if anyone decides to support me, that's completely up to them.

Of course, money matters probably more than anything else. Without good support, I would never have been able to invest this much time and effort, and I’d love for it to pay off big someday, but only if it’s truly deserved and that means delivering something excellent.

When I look back at Game 1, it had too many problems, both technical and gameplay-related. There were a lot of issues that I spent hours and hours trying to fix, but solving one problem often created another. And the game was built on a messy foundation. I could have just forced out updates with new content and treated it like a side job, but I just couldn’t do it. I completely lost the passion to continue developing that game. And remaking or fixing all of its issues so I could implement what I wanted just felt terrifying, and because of life events, I had to take a break from it entirely. But thanks to all the people who believed in the first game and so many positive messages during my break I had to keep going. I decided to build it way better this time, with real structure, using customized plugins to make everything exactly the way I wanted, and with the kind of attention to detail that can only happen when you truly enjoy what you’re doing when it’s something you genuinely want to create. I know it definitely won’t pay off anytime soon but I still went for it.

I know some people are unsure, or even already disappointed, about the idea of a new princess. But like I said this isn’t a remake. The story moves forward, and not everything from the past is truly lost. So if you enjoyed Princess in the Tower, I’m sure you’ll find Princess in the Tower II at least twice as enjoyable probably even more.

So, as already mentioned, just wait for the first release.
