Democracy, maturity and profesionalism of course and not jumping the gun on justified criticism by one of your supporters.
I'd like to know what exactly was said to them before I say they're in the wrong or not. If it was just flat out said "yeah this game is never coming out" you should have expected to be banned. Justified or not, it's not constructive at all.

I do not think so. Kicking someone out because you do not like their opinion is childish and super unprofessional. It really screams "I do not want to be critized just in case everyone else realizes it too and stops supporting me". (n)

I can understand maturity and professionalism but democracy? That's a private Discord channel, not a public town hall. Dev can make the rules and reserves the right to kick anyone for any reason.
Private discord of people supporting the game through patreon right? I do not really care about this. But you do not kick people out of actual game discords (not even other fan funded projects, I mean actual games) just because you do not like their opinion. That really tells you all you need to know.

This has happened before with other scams like Paralogue, that became a gacha online game as a service when it was supposed to be a rpg with alien sex. Everyone that complained got kicked out too.

I just got kicked for calling them out on discord that it's never going to be released. enough said. I invested a lot of money and supported him since the beginning, its a scam. and I wont be shocked if they pop back up claiming its on. just dont invest money into it.
Matey is very clearly a scammer
What you need to look for when considering supporting a dev is dates of updates, simply put
On one end of the spectrum you have kairi soft who releases monthly demos and on the other end of the spectrum you have this

For all the in-betweens you need to use your common sense
just to say some random examples
good devs
unholy creation, not monthly demos but maybe every 2 months
inui, monthly demos most of the time
umai neko, even if he recycles stuff at least he's consistent
sinisistar dev, he only posted a few demos and went a long time without posting any new ones, but after a few years of development we now have the full game
bad devs
eromancer, i shouldn't need to say more, montly updates are a single frame fix for existing animations or supposed bugfixes
musfan, known for spending years on vr chat instead of actually doing anything
furonezumi, 2 fucking years ago he used to release monthly demos with updates but now he's been going on forver making supposed system core mechanics

again the main thing you need to look for is, basically, evidence
released stuff and their dates

that was your mistake here

oh yeah and one more thing, even the shittiest devs have their army of fanboys, so expect them to come at you defending every shitty thing the dev does
like kicking you out or never releasing stuff hurr durr let him cook
they're like people on abusive relationships who defend their boyfriend, so there's nothing you can do about it
can't be helped

I think F95 should start tagging games and developers like this in some way, so people can avoid wasting their time and money on projects that never properly progress. Even a clear warning in the OP would help a lot of people, in my opinion.
There's a site feedback forum for that. Posting here about it serves nothing.

Fair point. I’m not great with formal feedback posts, so I mentioned it here in case the idea resonates with others or someone wants to take it further.

yeah
after a long time with no updates some games are tagged as abandoned, just like this one
so there's that

It's not that specific and modding real games is garbage.
It really depends, haha.

I've really enjoyed (to give an example) Saints Row 3 and 4 with the nude mods and billboards of the same type.
Having to modify files with an external program. Yes, the process of doing that is the pain, but oh blessed result, you enjoy it :)

This really has been a depressing rabbit hole to look into. Matto seems incapable of sticking to any project long enough for it to bear any real fruit (alas, I know this all too well as a creator myself...) and it's sad to see what could have been get scaled up or down more times than I care to count. Ironically, his earlier concepts had more promise than what he seems to have settled on and while I commend him for realizing he got in way over his head with his later projects, the end result is... well...

I mean, kudos to him if this latest project finally has legs but... yeah. The new gameplay looks fine but hardly interesting compared to what he showed us a year or so back. Worries me that level of animation quality will be lost in EXECUnit.

EXECUnit is made by another dude (the one who's responsible for R18 content patches for both games). You can call it outsourced project.

Hey, what's the latest on Rogue Protocol?
It's still listed as "to be announced" on Steam. I remember seeing somewhere that it would be announced this December, but with only two days left in the year, I haven't seen anything.

Wait, so that means Rogue Protocol hasn't been abandoned? If that's the case, colour me cautiously optimistic.

Lmao the guy making the R18 content and another game is just Mattos alt. He showed up/made him around the same time he randomly decided to make the base game sfw and for steam.
This would just mean Mattos already moving onto another game, like he has done 2-3 times prior.

Tbh I hadn't even considered that Matt and Gatto could be different sides of the same coin. Interesting theory. I guess by making an alter ego, he can claim that he isn't making adult content in his country, which is apparently highly illegal.

As far as I know he's living in Japan and making adult content isn't illegal in there, as long as it's censored.
