Democracy, maturity and profesionalism of course and not jumping the gun on justified criticism by one of your supporters.
I'd like to know what exactly was said to them before I say they're in the wrong or not. If it was just flat out said "yeah this game is never coming out" you should have expected to be banned. Justified or not, it's not constructive at all.

I do not think so. Kicking someone out because you do not like their opinion is childish and super unprofessional. It really screams "I do not want to be critized just in case everyone else realizes it too and stops supporting me". (n)

I can understand maturity and professionalism but democracy? That's a private Discord channel, not a public town hall. Dev can make the rules and reserves the right to kick anyone for any reason.
Private discord of people supporting the game through patreon right? I do not really care about this. But you do not kick people out of actual game discords (not even other fan funded projects, I mean actual games) just because you do not like their opinion. That really tells you all you need to know.

This has happened before with other scams like Paralogue, that became a gacha online game as a service when it was supposed to be a rpg with alien sex. Everyone that complained got kicked out too.

I just got kicked for calling them out on discord that it's never going to be released. enough said. I invested a lot of money and supported him since the beginning, its a scam. and I wont be shocked if they pop back up claiming its on. just dont invest money into it.
Matey is very clearly a scammer
What you need to look for when considering supporting a dev is dates of updates, simply put
On one end of the spectrum you have kairi soft who releases monthly demos and on the other end of the spectrum you have this

For all the in-betweens you need to use your common sense
just to say some random examples
good devs
unholy creation, not monthly demos but maybe every 2 months
inui, monthly demos most of the time
umai neko, even if he recycles stuff at least he's consistent
sinisistar dev, he only posted a few demos and went a long time without posting any new ones, but after a few years of development we now have the full game
bad devs
eromancer, i shouldn't need to say more, montly updates are a single frame fix for existing animations or supposed bugfixes
musfan, known for spending years on vr chat instead of actually doing anything
furonezumi, 2 fucking years ago he used to release monthly demos with updates but now he's been going on forver making supposed system core mechanics

again the main thing you need to look for is, basically, evidence
released stuff and their dates

that was your mistake here

oh yeah and one more thing, even the shittiest devs have their army of fanboys, so expect them to come at you defending every shitty thing the dev does
like kicking you out or never releasing stuff hurr durr let him cook
they're like people on abusive relationships who defend their boyfriend, so there's nothing you can do about it
can't be helped
