That's not really a sandbox either, Devs should rename that to "Gallery Viewer" instead.
The actual sandbox they had in older versions was so much better and had a lot of potential for UGC.

I still think it's mainly a culling issue. When you're walking along with Melody there's a couple of areas with completely ridiculous frame drops, that has to be because it's rendering a ton of crap that's not on screen.My RTX 3060 12GB got delivered today, finally upgrading from my GTX 1660 6GB.

I've heard Lumen stuff is ray-tracing which hits the performance hard, so the game definitely needs an option to disable that if it isn't already present in the settings.

You do still see it on release in pretty big non-H productions though.
This changes a lot depending on what dev you ask. I tend to agree with you that it's never too early to consider optimization, but I have had explanations from devs of 3D games before about why it's a waste of time if you start too early.I think the early access should still have necessary optimizations, so player experience isn't ruined.
It's fucking insane to me that people figured out how to do almost 100% perfect culling in a fully editable game world with nearly no restrictions IN FUCKING JAVA back in like 2012 but modern game devs struggle to do culling in static maps in fucking UE4.
