for such a low quality game the developer is sure taking their time to finish it. How many years now, 4?
Yeah and he even got the time to reply here to anything criticizing the game. If you got time to do that, why not focus on releasing it faster. ngl, the game's hype died down about 2 years ago.

How long do y'all think it takes to reply to a comment on here? This one took me under a minute. Not like a person can be in game dev mode every waking hour, anyway.

Honestly, my skepticism is also increasing with each month passing by. It has been years since a literal "almost done". While hickups do occur it feels like we are way past that mark and well on our way to lazy and or procrastination town. He said waaaay back in 2019 that 2020 definitely will be the year it releases. We are now closing in on the end of 2021 and are fed with almooooost done with this and that build, side events left, right and center. The game is positively marvelous when playing but it is a real question of it ever getting released at this point.
Missing a marker by two years is odd to me. Oh well, can't do much than keep on waiting.

Gosh. Just catching up on the thread now! My rationale behind making an account and posting here wasn't necessarily to defend my game--but rather just clear up any misconceptions about things that were floating around, as some of it was being taken and truth and was a touch worrying, haha. But apparently it's given people more ammo to criticise me with. (Not everyone--just the two disgruntled posts at the top of this page.) I'm always around if you have any questions or queries, if you want to ask me them directly, but making snide remarks--and unburying what had been a dead thread up until now just to do so--seems kinda harsh, haha.

As falafelswoop says, though--I'm really not sure how taking 5 minutes out of a day to respond to things affects the development of a game at all. Especially given the fact it's not like I'm on here on a daily basis posting hundreds of times, haha. Like, I get people are frustrated about the development of my low quality game (I won't refute this between the 20 different art styles and my own inconsistent writing at times), and that's fine. I am taking a long time--there's no question about it. I've overestimated my rate of progress a lot, definitely. There's no excuses there--and I definitely own up to it. Things could have gone a lot smoother over the years, between planning the content, avoiding content creep, and so on. I should have stuck to a far narrower scale, with less scenes, that I could have released sooner like Chapter One, rather than focusing on something 'epic' with a huge amount of words as I'm doing right now.

I've definitely aimed too high in some regards, and it'll be a learning process moving forward with future projects. Chapter Two is far too tangled up with events and character arcs to pair down as it is now, though, so all I can really do at this point is see it to the end and hope the end product redeems the rather lengthy delay in the end.

Because at the risk of sounding like a broken record, it will be finished, even if I end up only releasing to an audience of like 5 people at the end due to this supposed 'hype' going away. (I wasn't aware there WAS any hype for my tiny project, admittedly.) Most, if not all of the art assets are done. It's just writing and then getting everything voiced that's the final hurdle. Which is a large one admittedly, but given Chapter One is 100,000+ words, and took me just about a year to make--I'd like to think I'm at a good pace with Chapter Two and the 600,000+ wordcount thus far.

I think it's fine for people to be skeptical, and to doubt it'll ever be done, especially when they have a skewed perspective of where the development actually is right now due to only having limited builds to play, when I'm miles past whatever old build is being hosted here in terms of content and writing. Because I have been releasing in-development builds on a semi-frequent basis--short of this most recent one which has been a few extra months worth of writing due to how much of the main story is covered.

It does get disheartening to see posts doubting the progress of the game, especially when I'm in the midst of the largest content update yet, but I totally understand where everyone is coming from, and hope if and when you get a chance to play the end product, you'll enjoy things!

I think you should at the very least release more public information and maybe more demos, everything is paywalled on Patreon, not only the people that don't pay does not know the state of the game, we also don't know how the heck is the development for it, and of course, as mentioned before, it lost hype because it is taking a long time, i can count at least 4 years there, but i think it could be 5, i loved the chapter 1 and i am still looking forward for chapter 2, but sometimes i question myself if that game will even release in 2022 given the state i believe it is

I appreciate it for sure! Once I have more free time after getting the new build out that I'm entrenched in right now, maybe we can discuss things! Though I will say that writing is a very personal thing for me, and I struggle to allow others to potentially write my characters and such--when I have super clear ideas in my head of how they act/talk and such. Which isn't anything against you, I'm just very, very stubborn and a bit of a control freak on that front, haha. ;~; While others may just view QF as a simple porn game, to me it's so much more and I take a lot of pride in the writing.

Ahh, that's fair enough then--and I can potentially see the confusion and frustration for where development lies. To be clear though, I do regularly tweet out previews alongside Patreon stuff, especially for the more important updates on things--so I don't paywall everything! I've always tried to be sure of that, while still having enough for Patreon backers to feel happy, too. It's a delicate balance. I've even started posting backdated art that was once exclusive to the patreon on twitter, to give people some fun illustrations now and again. It's a stressful affair trying to keep active on social media fronts and ensure everyone that development is going along--but I'm doing my best, haha.

On the subject of demos--I did release a new free one at the end of 2020, too, featuring a few extra scenarios from the game for people to play and see how things are coming along. So admittedly I get quite confused when people say I haven't shown anything at all and keep it all behind Patreon. I've even released cute little videos here and there! I'm certainly doing my best, haha.

Ultimately I'm just one person trucking along on a project that maybe got a biiiiit too ambitious down the line--and I'm paying the price for that now with everyone doubting if it'll even be finished at all. Which I totally understand. If I was on the other end of this all, I'd be having those doubts, too. With the bulk of Chapter 2 requiring an insane amount of writing, which lies solely on me now, I have my good days and I have my bad days of tackling the script--and yeah, sometimes it seemed like there was no end in sight no matter how much I wrote and how many scenes I finalised, just because of the sheer volume of content. I'm taking it one build at a time right now as everything comes together, but I really am optimistic right now of where everything's at!

Still--I'm really happy to hear you enjoyed Chapter One, and I hope when it releases, you'll be around to enjoy Chapter Two, too!

Uhm just out of curiosity, cause it could be me being "stupid" or blind. I looked at the links in patreon and here in the forum but i could not find any information about a link to your twitter.
Either i misunderstood something here or i just did not search in the right place.
Could you help me out here, thanks in advance :)(y)

No problem at all! I have links in various places between the game pages on itch.io and the game itself--but I never made a point of throwing them in peoples faces because I didn't want to seem obnoxious, haha. I guess maybe it was just a little TOO lowkey!

Agreed with this. For every naysayer and choosing beggar, there are a dozen players playing and enjoying your game.

Same here, as he said he is doing the whole thing mainly alone (except the voicing I guess :-D ) and if you follow his twitter and played the demo you can imagine it ´s easy to get way too much content and story in it and that ´s what he said. On the one hand I agree and would like to see more of the game as not patreon user. On the other hand it ´s nice to not getting spoilered too much and just play the game when it is out. Even though I like his work and comments and can ´t imagine he ´s a scammer or so, just be patience and let him do his work. Due to his given informations the game is near fine cutting, there is no timeline but light in sight. Good luck with your work Frostworks, I´m really curious about the finished game.

Being compared to Togashi is a big honour, given I'm a huge fan of his work, haha. Maybe there's a method to the insanely long hiatuses after all!

And thank you to everyone else for your kind and supportive words. <3 I won't lie, sometimes the hate and doubt does get me down, when I genuinely am doing what I can, even if it's a bit slow, but all I can really do is keep on trucking and hoping everything works out for the best down the line!

Glad to see you are still chugging along. I suggest making some time for friends and family to help lift your spirits. Between the internet revolution and the pandemic, isolation has become all too common.
