I really love the idea of Sengoku Rance, however I dislike how the "free mode" or the one where you don't follow the railroaded story kind of falls apart.
give it like another year for 03 and maybe 2 more years for Xman... i was expecting either X or 03 when i see the thread got updated
Harem : 100%, but more prominent in Rance 6 and beyond.Open question to any aficionados of this series:
I've looked at this series many times over the many years it's been around, but i was always offput either by the VN category or the Lack of relevant tags for my particular tastes... Now, seeing them all grouped together like this, the tags: harem, mind control, pregnancy, and transformation make it seem much more my thing... If anyone has played all of these, and with those particular fetishes in mind; would you say the entire series is worth playing, or are there 1 or 2 instances in maybe 1 or 2 games in the series leading to those tags being present... e.g would i hate 99% of it just to get to the few tags i like?
Thanks in advance.

gonna be honest, from what little i've played of it Rance 03 imo has pretty hot H scenes the art style is incredible and also the voice acting helps ALOT Kanami has a really good one early on in the gameI'd say that looking for porn in the Rance games is generally a bad idea, no matter which tags you're looking to enjoy. The sex scenes are neither animated, nor do they have many cgs, as the games are both old and had tight budgets for the time period. I don't think there's a single sex scene I've jerked off to in the entire series, and I've played every game barring the untranslated ones, and I have pretty varied taste.
There's a good shotgun of fetishes throughout the games, but the main appeal is the story/gameplay/humor. Harems exist for Rance (kinda) starting from Rance VI onwards, but the girls aren't blindly obedient to him or anything. There's very few instances of mind control, pregnancy, and transformation though, the last two being very tangential tags to the series. The main tags of the game are probably something like sexual harassment + rape.
Rance isn't a VN series, the only "vn" esque entry is 9, and that's just an SRPG and Rance 6 afterstories which is a vn but it's like 15 minutes long and bad.Open question to any aficionados of this series:

why would you wonder that when you can just check the release dates for both....?I remember a bunch of Rance hentai anime that came out long ago, had no idea there were games too. I wonder which came first?
No Ignore anything before 6 because its like the best starting point and you will learn the lore as you go (save often its pretty hard without cheats but it won't kick you in the nards like Sengoku.)is sect the same as zeth? do i need to play 4 first before 6?
Very highly recommended that you play in release order, 6 is very rough and aimless and 4 outclasses it for the most part anyways. But no, different games, but 4 is one of the only games in the series that is a direct sequel, taking place directly after the events of 3 which is also one of the better games.is sect the same as zeth? do i need to play 4 first before 6?
At least in the case of Rance 10, the game might actually hold the record for most dialogue in a video game. And I have to imagine Manga Gamer is splitting their resources thin, and I also have to assume the translation team is under paid and over worked.... they are extremely slow with 03 too ...
... I'm still pretty sure they could manage more than 5% translation on 03 in 3 months or more ...At least in the case of Rance 10, the game might actually hold the record for most dialogue in a video game. imo rance 1 remake is the best, the ui and the gameplay is the best i have ever seen, the artwork too, idk why people keep recommending rance 6, rance 6 right of the bat looks awful to play, the movement in movement segment is annoying, and the ui feels crowdedWhich game is the best, or should I just start from the first one?
why is 5d controversial? i see that it's the worst but how bad can it be? also, i think rance 4 graphic looks pretty good, it had charm in it and atleast not eye shattering like rance 3 ogRance is a narrative heavy series. You definitely want to play them in numbered order. The only caveats with that are...
1: Rance 1 and Rance 2 still have their freeware originals circulating around and they are veeeeerrrry 1989. Although they're perfectly playable you should probably play the remakes and only return to the originals out of curiosity.
2: Rance 3's remake is still being translated into English, and the freeware original is a port from a PC98 game made in the early 90's, so even basic QOL features like support for anything resembling a modern monitor resolution isn't there.
3: Rance 4 doesn't even have a remake and likewise is pretty aged.
4: Rance 5 is weird and controversial. But you do, canonically, get shit faced with Hanny frat bros so there's that.
5: Kichikou Rance is a non-canon spin off. It's also the last of the pre-Orion era so it's got that mid-90's look to it. Iconic, but that can also be a turn-off.
6: I'm not sure you can even find the original version anywhere anymore but don't play Rance 8 without the Magnum expansion.
7: Rance 10 is an absolutely massive game that's still being translated. AliceSoft wanted to send off their flagship franchise with a bang and had been planning and setting it up since shortly after the original release of Rance Quest shipped.
You can absolutely start with whatever one you want- Sengoku Rance (Rance 7) was the English speaking world's first game and so when people recommend it first, that's usually why- and while it's perfectly playable it loses a lot of it's punch when this massive ensemble of characters Rance encounters over the series are being introduced with the expectation that you already have an idea of who they are.
The digest editions strip out the gameplay and instead operate like kinetic novels. A digest is typically the shortened, simplified version of something.
