I really love the idea of Sengoku Rance, however I dislike how the "free mode" or the one where you don't follow the railroaded story kind of falls apart.

Open question to any aficionados of this series:
I've looked at this series many times over the many years it's been around, but i was always offput either by the VN category or the Lack of relevant tags for my particular tastes... Now, seeing them all grouped together like this, the tags: harem, mind control, pregnancy, and transformation make it seem much more my thing... If anyone has played all of these, and with those particular fetishes in mind; would you say the entire series is worth playing, or are there 1 or 2 instances in maybe 1 or 2 games in the series leading to those tags being present... e.g would i hate 99% of it just to get to the few tags i like?

Harem : 100%, but more prominent in Rance 6 and beyond.
Pregnancy : He's under a spell that make him infertile most of the serie.
Transformation : Minor tag I would say.
However, the entire serie is completely worth playing. If you want to be sure of that, start with 7 as it is one the best strategy game that I ever played.
The Rance serie is a VN serie, but all games have a unique gameplay. Some are misses (mainly 4, maybe 1), but some are glorious (6, 7, 10).

I'd say that looking for porn in the Rance games is generally a bad idea, no matter which tags you're looking to enjoy. The sex scenes are neither animated, nor do they have many cgs, as the games are both old and had tight budgets for the time period. I don't think there's a single sex scene I've jerked off to in the entire series, and I've played every game barring the untranslated ones, and I have pretty varied taste.
There's a good shotgun of fetishes throughout the games, but the main appeal is the story/gameplay/humor. Harems exist for Rance (kinda) starting from Rance VI onwards, but the girls aren't blindly obedient to him or anything. There's very few instances of mind control, pregnancy, and transformation though, the last two being very tangential tags to the series. The main tags of the game are probably something like sexual harassment + rape.

gonna be honest, from what little i've played of it Rance 03 imo has pretty hot H scenes the art style is incredible and also the voice acting helps ALOT Kanami has a really good one early on in the game

Rance isn't a VN series, the only "vn" esque entry is 9, and that's just an SRPG and Rance 6 afterstories which is a vn but it's like 15 minutes long and bad.
Harem is very prevalent, especially in Kichikuou and X but Rance always has women coming after him. There's an entire plot point that he's fated to impregnate certain women so it's a decently important tag. Transformation would be used for one-off jokes and likely wouldn't even have scenes.
I remember a bunch of Rance hentai anime that came out long ago, had no idea there were games too. I wonder which came first?

No Ignore anything before 6 because its like the best starting point and you will learn the lore as you go (save often its pretty hard without cheats but it won't kick you in the nards like Sengoku.)

Very highly recommended that you play in release order, 6 is very rough and aimless and 4 outclasses it for the most part anyways. But no, different games, but 4 is one of the only games in the series that is a direct sequel, taking place directly after the events of 3 which is also one of the better games.
wait, is rance 3 translation done yet? i can bare rance iv graphic but rance iii looks so ass, for those who recommend me to skip some, i already played rance 1 and two some months ago, i just like it when i know the story
why tf is rance iv so hard, more than one enemy attacked me at once and i'm dead, i don't care about gameplay anymore i just want to know the story, is there a way to cheat in this game?
At least in the case of Rance 10, the game might actually hold the record for most dialogue in a video game. And I have to imagine Manga Gamer is splitting their resources thin, and I also have to assume the translation team is under paid and over worked.

... I'm still pretty sure they could manage more than 5% translation on 03 in 3 months or more ...
imo rance 1 remake is the best, the ui and the gameplay is the best i have ever seen, the artwork too, idk why people keep recommending rance 6, rance 6 right of the bat looks awful to play, the movement in movement segment is annoying, and the ui feels crowded
why is 5d controversial? i see that it's the worst but how bad can it be? also, i think rance 4 graphic looks pretty good, it had charm in it and atleast not eye shattering like rance 3 og
