At the end of the day these devs are all just people, hobbyists basically who for whatever reason be it passion, fun or money decide to throw a VN into this sphere. They all come from different backgrounds, maybe some have a history with 3D art or game development or both. But they are amateurs and they usually do it alone as a side hustle to begin with.
Apparently Lefrench just started doing DAZ year or so before creating red lucy and then decided to make lewd games. Lefrench is pretty mysterious though as he is from French Polynesia I think, lived in Canada in seemingly rural Quebec in a log cabin of some kind. He said he had alot of money and all patron funds went to the development of red lucy, and the rest to be donated. But i've seen some claim on here that he was trying to make money from red lucy and failed so he quit. So honestly it's all very confusing and Tommy Wiseau levels of mysterious.
Lefrench always spoke so cryptically and failed to get to the point pretty often when being asked things. Who knows why it went this way, who knows what's true and what isn't. My point of this ramble is that Devs are people, and devs are weird and they are often just doing this themselves and have no obligations. I personally think it's unethical and cringe to just ghost your supporters but who knows the real reason he decided to go this route
