But then, in doing that, why even pretend it's the same game? Just start a new game with new assets with more or less the same plot, and then make what you want. You don't need to "continue" this game or anything. Either make a new game, or leave this one be. I don't think anything else will work, realistically speaking.

thats pure conjecture. Esp given his involvement with the community. This dev has great talent, he/she just didn't get the support needed to keep this afloat.

Maybe...but with him mentioning his constant time restraints balancing a wife, kid's as well working a demanding full time job. As you mentioned, and he stated a few times back in 2020, 2021...as well only making about $300-$500 per month for all his long hours, taking away his free time away from his family creating story content.
Like Tyrranus said, though, this isn't maybe conjecture. You could say it's "educated" conjecture if you want, but it's still just that: conjecture. You have evidence of a possible reality, but no proof of what actually is. That, by definition, is conjecture. Nobody knows what's happened. If it makes you feel better at night, you can believe whatever you want. But all the theorizing — even based on information like you have — is still not proof of things. So in case anybody else reads in this thread to see what's happened, here is the actual answer: Nobody knows. Nobody will ever know unless Kyois makes an official statement explaining. That's it.
