VN Ren'Py Rick and Morty: Another Way Home [r4.0] [Night Mirror]

The Gravity Falls stuff was all added in by me and doesn't exist in the original. I've talked a bit about it before, but part of increasing Morticia's presence throughout the game was expanding her personality, and I based a lot of that dialog style off Mabel. Whenever I get to a section with Morticia, I have to think, what would Mabel do (WWMD) in this situation, and try and adjust the dialog accordingly (when I can).

In fact, here is a fun (?) sort of bonus thing (I guess? maybe...?). One of my first renpy test projects was a Gravity Falls game, but, uh... well my art sucks... so I didn't get very far (2 and a half scenes in). And I haven't worked on it for a long time... But, here is an image from the project that tells you almost nothing about it.

Would you (or anyone) ever consider a Familyguy or Simpsons game, I've never seen one which is quite suprising given how popular they are.

From my internal perspective I write it as though it is incest, because I enjoy that aspect of it. The fact it is another dimension is mostly irrelevant. Beth and Summer are for all intents and purposes the same ones Morty left (who weren't his real Beth and Summer either, since he makes reference to having fled a previous universe (with mantis people (which might not have been his original universe either...))).

Either way the underlaying fundamental issue is the same regardless of if Beth and Summer are the originals or not, genetics. Despite being a different universe they are genetically identical to Morty's family, but with slightly different life experiences. As was said above it would be similar to a clone, or a twin sister.

Also, the thread tags say it has incest, and tags never lie!

Sometimes I take this story line a bit to seriously. Part of what FEDERAF has done was make a plot line that is almost more fun than the porn aspect but it gives the possibility that there might be some actual Rick-isms here. Like what if Rick only told Morty this was a different dimension but it was really his? So far that I see the only difference is Morticia. But she was an ad in. Shouldn't there be other differences? Maybe not but it's just a thought in this R&MU.

This is the status post from the last update (r3.4) so you can have sort of a sense of what I need to do. Until I see the actual content, I won't know how long it will take me to get it all in (that's what she said). But my goal is within a week of the Unity release.

Game downloaded and as always, I’m in the first few steps of ripping stuff out of it. I’m going to try things in a slightly different order this time (for anyone looking at/caring about the detailed steps above). I’m going to do a full sort and slice of all images up front (rather than scene-by-scene) as I think that will make the whole process overall easier for me.

Here is the quick and dirty things you might want to know:

• WHEN IS UPDATE?!
  • Target release date: March 30 (in UTC time, possibly earlier if you’re in a -UTC timezone).
  • Again, this is a guess, I’ll do my best to hit it, but I’m not magic. I do unfortunately have other paid work that needs to be done this week, so I do expect this date to slip.
• What amazing new scene are you adding?
  • Uh… I don’t know about “amazing”... But, only one new extra scene this time around. I had wanted to do two, but the second one's art never came together.
• What are you changing from the Unity version?!
  • Not sure yet. These are usually done as I work on the new content. A future update will (with spoiler tags) let you know what I’m adding.
• Will there be an update only patch file?
  • Yes!
• Should I mash F5 on this page as hard as I can?
  • No!
  • Like last time progress reports will be their own post. The OP and each update will have a link to this post, and this post will also be modified with links to new posts (similar to how the r3.4 status post worked).
  • Just sit back and watch for the notification icon and you’ll get the updates. I tend to post 2-3 times a day depending on how things go.
• Did you get around to making the game smaller (slicing)?
  • Nope, but I have already started work on it for r3.6, so it will happen for the next, next, update. (Also, the blinks are coming (with r3.6)! AHHH! THEY ARE IN MY EYES!)
• Did ‘Do Over’ get reworked to be awesome?!
  • I’m not sure it was ever going to be “awesome” but also no. I do still think it needs a rework and since I’m doing a large image update next time, I think it was best pushed back for that. Also, I got lazy…

  • Yep!
  • Don’t expect anything big here, they are mostly minor corrections and fixes, and do not include the new unity scenes yet (stuff only gets added to the patch notes when it’s in the game).

Alright, text all pulled out and formatted (mostly, I see a lot of possible errors and adjustments).

And I have ripped the images, but whatever tomfuckery Ferdafs has done to reduce their size, also fuck them up...

Unfortunately this means I have to go the way longer rout of image acquisition, screen cap one at a time for 1500+ images... Luckily, I built an automated script a while back to do this... However, it takes fucking hours to run per scene, a shit ton more work use, and a lot more time to implement.

Anyhow... kind of a frustrating start to content I think most people aren't really gonna like... I have a very strong feeling this one is gonna take me more than a week.

Changing up my target release date to be TBD, will keep you all updated as I know more.

Definitely a bit frustrated over this image issue. Sadly doesn't seem like there is a "quick" fix, but at least it isn't all images. Tricia's scene seems mostly fine so far, and the costume parts also seem okay (which was my big worry since I would have had to re draw ALL the new characters/costumes of which there is just a fuck ton this time).

Still, it pretty fucks this whole first day, since I have an extra capture step instead of actually starting work...
