But the idea behind it is that I'd rather let the player decide, if you're being mean to him and want nothing to do with him, the option to continue being mean was there. If you want to reverse course and now, maybe go down the romance path, you can do it. Dunno, perhaps I like giving options too much.

I understand your point, fair enough. But the affection system you mentioned makes much more sense to me, since it gives WEIGHT to relationships, instead of having sex with a murderer that was your enemy literally some hours ago. Perhaps I am being too sensitive, but I wish the choices would give more weight to your interactions with characters. As such, I wouldn't mind to sex the thief if ENOUGH DEVELOPMENT was given to the said relationship between the two. For instance, the guy that makes dresses that shows up on the river? Having casual sex for Cat with some hot dude that did nothing ill to her makes somewhat sense she is so into sex. But having sex with a murderer that tried to kill your romantic interest? To me that is kind of yikes. But hey, I am just throwing it out there Mind you, still a huge fan of the game, just wanted to point out some moral inconsistencies I had whilst playing!

Perhaps a compromise between two extremes would not require affection levels, but also have flags you can set in a menu like in Dating my Daughter. Player could disable romance options for a character and never see them again.

I think turning around on Kyo, that is an absolute cunt in the beginning of the game, to coming to love her somewhere later - is very deserved and super well done. The character is introduced early, is hated easily, but leaves a door to being a more intriguing character for later. Then there is rather A LOT of material to work with to change your opinion towards her and the pay-off is near-mindblowing with her turning to be submissive to Cat. That storyline is so sweet and awesome. But there is a tangible difference between that sweet storyline (mind you those characters have been together for years) and some random murderer that you somehow would like to sex just after a murder attempt on your romance interest's life. I think it's very fair to address that point.

We'll see, maybe I will. At times I think more like a game designer than as a writer. Still, I'm not entirely convinced I need to change that for now. I prefer to keep things easy to access while still giving the player the freedom to choose how they want to handle things.

I'm sure I'll go back at some point and hide things behind choice walls, I'll rebalance all the variables and write whole new routes with the benefit of hindsight. But for now, I prefer to keep it like this. I've taken note though and I will discuss this with Banshee on our next meeting.

I think the way things are right now is great. The version is early and the material is not that extensive. But, all things said, I think that having a grand pay-off is much more rewarding than a quick fuck under very questionable circumstances. I very much appreciate your attitude and consideration. I just wanted to bring this thing up about relationships as soon as possible before the game got too far into development where Cat just got to fuck everything that moved regardless of any emotional consideration at all! Having only one path with kyo seems like a tremendous waste of potential. Given the current circumstances, I can say it's possible to make at least 3 different branches in the cath-kyo relationship:

-The Traumatized one where Catherine just says 'fuck this shit I'm out' and gets as far away from Kyo as possible;
-The Resentful one where Catherine finds it hard to forgive her master but still will give it a go (it would be the domineering one);
-The "wholesome" one where Catherine develops Stockholm Syndrome and just forgives her master lmao.

P.S: dayum Kyo is extra thicc on those new cg scenes

All jokes aside I like the position the game is in now with respect to relationships, it's early in the game and Cath is trying shit out, I think gating off choices at this early point would be a mistake. The Cath/Kyo scene where Cath doesn't want to dominate Kyo is one of the sweeter scenes in the game and could be easily gated off by players and missed which would be a shame.

I don't think Cath has Stockholm Syndrome in that scene, it reads to me more like a mentor/student trope where the mentor has been super tough on the student but then reveals how proud she is of the student, and the student is super proud and grateful for the recognition. With hot steamy sex of course, because this is RotWF.

Just wanted to chime in-- after chancing across the scene where Kyo is willling to lay all the cards-- and more -- on the table and Cath can actively choose to not use her as revenge, but enjoy her mentor as an equal.. it's probably my favorite bit in the game thus far. It's been a long road for the two of them with no shortage of problems in the way, so the fact that they both can put aside their unique fuckups for a bit and manage to see eye to eye was pretty fantastic.

Usually when the student catches up to the master its typically a prelude to them being killed off by the big bad, or some similar narrative rediculousness so the heroes journey can continue onward-- no reason for the mentor to remain a factor. But instead, here it's potential delicious sexy times. Nice.

Considering she (Cath) was trained by Kyo as a budding harlot, and half the cast are more than willing to have her embrace the bedroom arts to get herself out of debt, personally it feels kind of feels silly to lock Cath down to one character only in terms of narrative pursuit. Though I'd guess some characters are far more liberated in their outlook than others, big picture wise.

It's possible to act friendly and forgive Kyo way before that sex scene, that's what I meant by developing Stockholm Syndrome.

Yeah I agree with you, the whole situation can be seem as suspicious, because you can still fuck up even if you're aiming for a worthy goal. As the saying goes, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

As for Catherine, the more choices the player is given the better.

Anyway finally got the time to play the Kyo update and it did not disapoint. Interesting that she is now the headmaster of the Traxiaria, at least until Khiran and Elara return. I also really liked how she shut up Labashi and his cheap seduction skills.

The wholesome sex scene between Cat and Kyo was really hot (the bad dragon dick made me chuckle a bit). Specially in light that i choose to have Cat try to forgive and trust her old master despite their issues caused by Kyo's harsh training.

Also look forward to see Jean again. Wonder what Kyo did to him.

And it will be nice to finally see the Emperor and maybe seraph Asariel burning some nobles.

By the way loading a older save i got a bug where Antoinnete would appear everywhere during talks. I fixed this by starting from a save where she appeared already, after Jean's visit to her brothel.
