Games like Bright Memory stand out because it is out of the ordinary for one person, an animator/artist even, to make a game like Bright Memory on their own.I personally do mind if the game is moving backwards and i think a lot of people do.
How can you say that when we have games like Edge of Eternity made by 4 devs? Or Bright Memory made by a solo dev? It's just patreon devs that are typical lazy and milkers and they don't have any reason to speed up the process of development. Next stage will be a remake of remake.
I'm not here to defend Velminth, it's clear their behaviour is justifiably drawing ire, but expecting everyone to be an outstanding single person army is a bit much. Vel would've been making enough money to hire ppl to handle the parts of the game dev process they were having trouble with, and should have. On the other hand, this game seems to be more of a proper art project in their eyes, which I assume is why they didn't hand off control, and why redesigns happen often as they change their mind. (This is why proper big devs never put anything out in the alpha phase cause the game will change a lot)
Again, not excusing the bait and switch or the slow pace. But, it is their own project and expecting every dev to work at a special case pace isn't super reasonable (assuming they were full time at all, which it didn't feel like but IDK for sure). Add on that all the Saria content was freely available, not paygated behind patreon, and I think this is more a case of Hanlon's Razor.
It is also unreasonable to expect people to support a project that no longer is the game they pledged for, so I hope all those supporters pull support to show they don't like the new direction. The right thing to do by Vel is to provide refunds to some extent to their supporters, but I somehow doubt that will be happening
