for the people that are wondering why people are upset, it would be like the devs of cyberpunk when the game had its glorious shitshow of a launch instead of fixing it (which they did a amazing job of) going ya know what we are not gonna fix the game and instead remake it and turn it into a cyberpunk farming sim :D which sure im sure a lot of people be like okay weird but cool while the rest of the people be like were is the cyberpunk fps rpg game you have been hyping of for 7 years? and this game didnt need to be fixed and wasnt in a bad spot so dont think Saria was a broken game it worked quite well the battle system and the corruption while bare bonus was very good the cg from losing were great i loved the cave one or the fall a check and get hypnosis from the weird eye thing but now its all pretty much gone for and replaced for whatever reason a card game in a VN.

What playing library of ruina does to a man

jokes aside I originally found the world traversal very unweildy and awkward but liked the old combat system, despite the massive grind it entails.

I like this version of the game more but its normal for people to be pissed off that he pulled that much of a bait and switch.
That's generally the problem with patreon based backing, as steering the ship in an unintended direction is bound to severely piss people off.

This is not what people paid for, and the dev could've wrapped up this game and put this idea on the backburner.

now we need hero to make his own version of saria and see how dev die from butthurt
That is what I was thinking, a group of fans could take the legacy version and build their own game, following the direction that the game should take. As the Anal-only Ambassador, it would be a shame if this game gets thrown away to the trash by its own developer.

Someone inquired on Saria Reclaimed discord if the dev will keep developing the game as introduced in 0.16, a VN-like game and he confirmed he will continue with this vision. It will be a game quoted ”VN chapters with lewd things, minigames and temptations.”

l am sad that he changed his vision from the open world and complex corruption system, but it is what it is. Can’t always win. I’ll stay and keep an eye for the bomb art though.

I knew from the get-go he was biting off more than he could chew, he had some great ideas and the original direction of the game was great and he had great foundation to build on but it was just too much so he probably gave up and was like "I just wanna actually finish this game" instead of working on it for 2+ years for a real 5-star game.
He didn't bite more than he could chew. He was keeping up with the premise of the game. His work output was actually impressive in comparison with all the scams you see in this place. Nothing in the development process indicated that he was out of his league, all he had to do was keep working and there would be a finished, quality project at the end. He didn't bit more than he could chew, he just simply gave up on chewing. The usual way this happens is like how the Karryn's Prison dev gave up halfway through development: just start half-assing your game and pretend those features that are totally not setup in the game were never meant to be implemented anyway, and your game dies a slow death, so slow it almost looks like it's alive. This guy, being the impulsive, immature, edgelord that he is just speed ran the process and went straight to the implosion and burn all bridges approach. At least there's entertainment value this way, i have to give him that.

I mean, we've only seen this pattern a billion times. "I've remade huge chunks of the game so it should be smooth sailing from here". Few months later, "i've remade huge chunks of the game so it should be smooth sailing from here", repeat till player and developer interest in the game is completely dead. I don't blame them though, I understand the desire to perfect. It's just sad that realistically, it's a sign that it won't work out for almost every single one that goes through this process.
When that happens you're supposed to make a minimal viable product and compartmentalize all your new ideas for the next project. It's fairer to your backers and more efficient.

Wow, I usually don't comment on this website - like ever, but this one really hurts. This game was shaping up to be another karynn's prison with its battle/corruption mechanic and actually good art. Sure, the gameplay needed a little work but you could see the potential. Unfortunate really, but good luck to the dev regardless.

My only issue is that it's no longer a world at all, but a series of predefined conversations with a single fight. There are no forks or branches. (yet, hopefully.)

I still think the solution is to potentially make it a dungeon crawler type moving from room to room. Could separate some of the events from combat encounters too.

Suddenly a fuck ton of notifications from this game, time to say my piece again

Without comparing it to its previous version? its an at least decent VN game, still have alot of bugs (I got one which I dub persistent cum bug) and its still very dry in terms of content, the art is really the saving grace.

Comparing it to pre 0.16 on the other hand, boy we lost alot, a good, albeit grindy battle fuck system (I actually kinda like the PM-like reiteration of the battle fuck system more compared to the KP-like system), a decent exploration map, it could use some optimization, but it works nicely otherwise and looks good, and WE LOST THE ALMIGHTY MASSEUR SIDE JOB SCENES

The worst part is the complete removal of battlefuck and currently all of that art is just nuked and gone. And not to mention this is his second time doing a combat rework and the game is still an unbalanced mess. Enemies going first and 1 shotting you from full HP giving you no chance of counter play? Cards flat out lying about how much damage they deal? You can fuck right off with that shit.

so, I'm curious what people think..

What would be worse:
A) what he did
or B) declaring the game abandoned and introducing 0.16 as a new game entirely?

B is what they should've done. Refunded all the people pledging for Saria Reclaimed as it was previously, been very clear about the new direction ahead of time and put it up as a new game at v.0.001 state.

So A would be worse, since what they are currently doing is pretty sad

Even if I disagree with the change, I can understand why it was made.

The game had half-done systems on top of broken systems with all kinds of messes of buggy features stuck in at random and every patch seemed to try and cram some new mechanic in. I'd been wondering for a while now how it would ever be finished in the state it was in, you couldn't pay me to try and untangle all of that.
