Yes, your saved game will still be there if you update from 1.101R to 1.33R.

Look here. I was insecure about downloading it, I mean 11 separate packages but I transfered it to the sandbox with the exe and yup, everything seems to be okay, no virus and everything works.
I finished 1.33.
Then played 1.101.
Gonna play 1.201.
Still playable in 1.33.
By weird coincidence 1.33 version (game not save) broke so I just redownloaded so that is the only problem I had.
The save is located outside the game files in (...)Appdata\Local\SoD2 so you can say it's automatic.

Not really other than minor (?) bug fixes... Well, you can say that in 1.2 version there's the chrismass event wich may or may not be worth for the storage used in having 3 versions, other than that, story finishes in the same chapter, just the event is different.
mugijos95 summed it up pretty nicely - no big differences. I noticed that in 1.201 they added the harem room but it's not functional at that version yet. Not sure how buggy is christmas event but I'll give it a try sometime I'm bored. Halloween was also pretty buggy with zombies getting stuck at every corner/fence making the time bonus points practically impossible to get even with max speed but... maybe on difficulties other than very hard it's easier
Also in case I was misunderstood before: What I meant was that I finished game on 1.33 then just played the 1.101 Halloween event with no problem with any of my save files. Not sure how much bugs there are in 1.101 but you can do what I did and just play 1.33 then download other versions for the limited stuff without any save jugglery.

to get the halloween event in 1.101, do I need to change my computers clock to halloween or something? I've beaten the main story already but can't find where to trigger the event

Just get a save even with NTR on. It's non canonical anyways from what I remember.

Where grotesque - all as it is, and non-grotesque - just "Game Over" written over black screen instead of all cutscenes? i Hope not

If they're dedicating a portion of their workforce exclusively to "Non grotesque" I assume that's going to be more than just a game over scene.
