Not saying that two wrongs make a right, but strategically, it was a sound plan, ethnically, not so much. However, the Japanese were hardly saints in the war. The amount of atrocities they committed were staggering. Mass killings, cannibalism, torturing POWs, forced labor, rape, the list goes on. It's funny how they're made out to be the victims, when they perpetrated the whole thing, and did far worse than the atomic bombs did.
Most people don't know or forget, but the first Country that fell was Germany. Hitler conquerd and destroeyed Germany. Stabed political Rivals or democrates or put them into KZ. Lied and conspired to get more influcence. Parted Germans into Jews or Aryans. Played with fear and profited. Presented himself and facism as the only solution. Killed more than 6 Million Jews. About 60-80 Million Victims of WW2. Fucked up more then 2 post War Generations of People. The Justification of using the Atomic bombs was 3 fold.
1) End the war early.
2) Give the Soviets None of Japan.
3) Demonstrate the most powerful weapon in the world for political power.

It could be argued that millions more would die in a protracted war.
It could be argued that had the war dragged out much longer and the Soviets taken a piece they would have made the post war much worse with their gulags.
Demonstrating the great power of the nuclear weapons could show the soviets that maybe it's time to stop fighting?
In an alternate world we didn't use the nukes, and the Soviets took a piece of Japan, then wanted more of Germany and the rest of Europe for that matter.
