I want to say that Shrift 2 so far feels great to play, it really has the dialogue that charmed me and interested me in shrift 1. ALSO HE CREATED ANIMATION FRAMES AND AND MOUTH MOVEMENT ANIMATIONS TO SIMULATE THEM TALKING??? WOW THAT'S IMPRESSIVE!!
I know he's using ms paint still to draw or whatever and that little trailer / anime opening thing isn't very great but idc he's the goat he did a great job on it.
I do hope that he isn't overworking himself, I do hope that he takes a break or something.. I was a bit taken aback by how empty Shrift 2 feels, to me at least. Maybe I'm taking the crazy pills.. I know shrift 1 was developed for like 8 or 9 years overall due to updates, and shrift 2 has been in development for 4 or 5..
but it feels to me like shrift 2 is just way smaller and shorter than shrift 1? Maybe it's meant to be that way I just feel like his progress for development has slowed substantially. IT really felt like he was hitting his stride or getting his groove near the end of shrift 1, or when he was making the EX's
Again, maybe I'm being affected by nostalgia.. I get shrift 1 only has like 9 monster girls that you can bond with.. I'm pretty sure shrift 2 has more monsters to bond with overall, but I don't know, it feels smaller to me.
I was surprised to play shrift 1 and get to the 'ooohh hidden superboss its almost done please wait a bit longer', then wait a few years, and come back, and see it's still 'ooohh hidden superboss its almost done please wait a bit longer', after like 3 or so years.
I do sincerely hope he doesn't turn to generative ai. I like the developer's art. Even if it's MS Paint. Even if you can find better art in other places. I like the developer's art because it's his, it's grown on me, I find it charming. I feel he has come a long way with shadows and shading and details with his art from shrift 1.
If he is struggling, and is stressed, that makes me sad, I value his work. I'd much rather he say 'hey fellas im not feeling great im cancelling shrift 2' or 'hey fellas im not feeling great im going on hiatus for an indeterminate length of time', rather than force himself to slog through development.
Your heart shows in your work, I feel if this work is stressful for him to create, and it is a source of anxiety, it will lead to a worse game, and a worse story, and I do not want that.
I apologize for so much wordiness, I'm bad at being concise. Still, I hope the developer can get some rest and take it easy and not burn himself out
