- The original version of the guide was found at the following URL address: . I simply updated it a bit with stuff related to the EX2, EX3 scenario/content. Most of what you'll read here does not, I repeat, NOT come from me. I take no credit for any of it.

- I can't thank enough the awesome community at ULMF. I first showed up around a year ago on the game thread to ask help on how to befriend/recruit Titanoboa, I couldn't have managed to earn a True Mercy ending without you, folks, thank you for having been patient with me. More recently, you've also helped me deal with the Daiji boss battle, but sadly, I kind of had to win the lottery and hope to win the battle in a different way.

- Lastly, I must thank @nekomataaran: The developer has gone out of his way to help me, he reached out to me on Twitter and helped me understand what I needed to do to advance in the EX2 and content and also unlock the last scene I missed. I don't know if you'll ever read this, but thank you, man. You're amazing.

[Introduction]
################################
SHRIFT is a RPG maker game where there's a war between humanity and demons, the game centers on a boy who awakens from a coma that lasted 5 years, in a facility overrun by demons, inside a city devoid of human life.
How will you escape? it's up to you.
Killing everything that stand in your way? Through human compassion? Maybe both?

This guide focus on showing mercy to those who harm you (this is a porn game, if you came for monster tiddies, this is your route). This guide is not a detailed walkthrough of the game, it focus on unlocking the monster girls, raising affection, tips for boss battles, etc.
Every battle will give you two options at the end: spare your opponent or finish her off, ALWAYS SPARE. Every demon you spare increase the affection with said demon in 1.
There's no 100% accurated translation, but the half machine, half manual translation, effort of several users from ULMF works fine.
The game suffers from heavy RNG, playing on EASY/SAFE is extremely recommended.

Once you land a shot on Barghest, she will try to run, let her go.
Before proceeding to the next area (door with !) check the middle room.
Double check the box filled with bloodied bandages to get the silver ring.
Once you threw Barghest against the wall with your new powers, treat her with a bandage.

With that you unlocked barghest.

The next area:

Password-code to unlock the door (computer in right room besides resting room) is 0 1 5 6

TIPs:
Buy a stock for your machine pistol and a custom kit to upgrade your pistol.

Barghest h-scenes:
most h-scenes can be unlocked in barghest's room, the only scene you can't unlock is the gang rape, for that you must get caught by the pack of barghest at the end of the act.

ACT 2 "LAMPLIGHT"

TIP: now you can pay a visit to Barghest in Hell, make sure to raise her affection to at least 50 for the Barghest's collar, an accessory that increases gun damage by 30.

Lampas fight tips
if you like magic, fire magic is very effective for obvious reasons
wind magic does both damage and gets rid of her bindings
if you like guns more, machine pistol with stock and barghest's collar
for the pitch black rooms, upgraded pistol with barghest's collar

Iron maiden first fight
old ring accessory is recommended.
magic does moderate damage so guns are recommended.
she's impervious to damage with her "dress" covering her.
undress yourself, she will do the same, now she's vulnerable to any attack.
get rid of her bindings struggling or with offensive wind magic

how to unlock lampas
the 4th room (the bloody one) where you grab the last battery.
douse the flames burning lampas.

there's a wooden crate with an emerald south of the crater (upper right corner)

ACT 3 "SCYTHE"

Iron maiden second fight
drinking tea at resting room is obligatory
the moment the battle starts you're already fucked up, her binding increases lust in real time, skip her dialogue, be fast.
you get a new struggle option "coffin breakout" that's the only struggle you must use.
use "coffin breakout" 4 times:
the second time you struggle your lust should be lower than 25, the third time lower than 60, the fourth time less than 100
your lust should NOT reach 100 BEFORE the fourth "coffin breakout"
after that, she will taunt your efforts to break free, music will change and she will molest you relentlessly.
you get a final turn, only 5 options are visible, the middle one has no text, select that option, you struggle with all your might a last time.
battle ends.

TIP: wearing barghest's collar on the fight with empuse will unlock an hilarious scene

Empuse fight
empuse resist physical damage, any kind of magic inflicts heavy damage, even shotgun will do little damage

near the car is a sheep, go behind him to a passage behind the building, you'll find the repair kit to fix your broken assault rifle, proceed to the south
TIP: get max affection with iron maiden before going south.

How to unlock the cat beggars (Haru & Liz)

they ask for drinks, instead meet the oni merchant to the right.
the merchant will charge you $500 for pulling it out.
if you maxed iron maiden affection, she will appear just in time to help you (for free), remember to pay her a visit later
drink 2 energy drinks and confront the cat beggars
struggle violently 3 times.

How to unlock the third Haru & Liz loss scene (which got added with an update in November 2019)
Follow the steps outlined in the previous part, but when they ask for drinks do NOT talk to Hyakki. Buy the cats drinks, then struggle twice against Haru & Liz in the endurance battle, you should be put in a 69 position with Haru, lose to that (another way to view this scene is getting drained five times by Haru in their room, but this way it won't be unlocked as a defeat scene).
If needed, you may replay this part by picking "想ひ魂(猫又)" from the reminiscence capsule in the Scientist's laboratory in Hell.

unlocking MR

ACT 2 "RESOLUTION"

Mukuro
cool calm is recommended

mukuro resist fire magic and is a bit weak to electric magic, despite having some physical resistance, guns are a better choice against her

there's a wooden crate with an aquamarine near the save console, outside the lab.
near the oni merchant inside the cave, there's rubble blocking the light switch, barghest will help you there.
still some areas are pitch black, avoid them, mukuro will spawn from them

puzzle to castle/temple whatever solution:
2 - 5
4 - 1
6 - 3

inside you need two keys to open the middle room.
heaven key - left room in desk
earth key - right room on the table

mukuro boss fight
drinking tea at resting room is recommended
cool calm is recommended
cat bell collar accessory is recommended
riot gun or assault riffle is recommended
everytime mukuro's eyes turn red, use defensive stance
everytime lust rises beyond 50-60, use concentrate
use wind magic to both break free of legs binding and inflict some damage.

continue north, to the bottomless pit, the human key is shining on one of the lamp post.
go back to the left room, in the middle of the wall there's some paper hanging, enter the secret room and grab the memento.
continue to the stairs on the right upper corner.

unlocking mukuro
go to the resting room in act 3 and save, go to hell, the scientist created a passage from hell to her lab, talk to her.
she will show you her latest invention to review the mementos you've gathered, proyect the memento you found on act 2,

once you escape from titanoboa, follow the mermaid to the military tent to the north
drink tea, you'll need it.

Echo fight second form (slug form)
Protective shirt accessory negates her mucus, making normal struggles possible.
alternatively, use offensive Wind magic to get rid of her mucus and bindings
electric magic inflicts heavy damage on this form.
she has some physical resistance, still, riot and calico are recommended if lacking vit or a strong electric spell.

echo first form(siren form) is weaker to physical damage

TIP: if you unlocked haru&liz, they will help you get rid of some echos, making your trip safer
before turning off the 3rd water console, take a little detour to the south, where titanoboa ate the poor pilot, you will find parts to upgrade the sub-machine gun to calico, a superb 90-rounds machine gun (reloading only adds 15 rounds, make sure to reload many times).

unlocking Echo
read all the documents near the water consoles.
the 4th documents will appear on the console in the reservoir
check the corpse
check the bag, do nothing
echo will appear when you're leaving
in battle, holster your gun, then, persuade

sphinx quiz battle
tanuki's magical leaf accessory is recommended (scientist shop)

first turn, struggle
optional: if you lost too many times already and mind meal is fucking your shit up, use morphine on second turn

optional: use concentrate to reduce lust before answering (or deep breathing if low vit)
fourth turn, answer "none"
fifth turn, struggle violently before you ran out of vitality
sixth turn, answer first option, then first option
seventh turn, answer first option gain, then second option
eight turn, answer first option.

5. Struggle
6. Answer なし
7.When she's on top of you struggle again
8. Answer にんげん
9. Answer 「に■げん」 then 『ばんごう』でこたえる then ①「に■げん」

There's a climbable vine to the left up to the hill, there's "Custom parts C" near a tree.
custom parts C is needed for upgrading the handdgun to rebellion, a superb handgun who increases speed and has elemental attacks.

IMPORTANT-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
before moving on, go back to the oni merchant next to the military tent
SAVE GAME IN ANOTHER SLOT AND DON'T OVERWRITE THAT SAVE IN THE FUTURE.
also, make sure to raise both lampas and empuse affection before starting the next act to unlock the next girl.
IMPORTANT-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ACT 2 "DEATH PRISON"

you're trapped, struggle 'till all your limbs are free, then untangle the web, use evasive posture 'till the battle ends

TIP:Empuse and a smol lampas should aid you when the 3 spider spawns(akonitum) attack you, if they don't you fucked up, select another chapter and raise their affection or you aren't getting spider girl on that save (and pacifist ending too).

akonitum tips
walk, don't run, they'll spot you from afar if you run.
they'll stop chasing if you get far enough and stand still on the spot, it's good for moving spiders blocking the path
it's possible to go unnoticed by just walking.

battle tips
he's weak to ice spells and resistant to electric and wind spells.
barghest's collar is recommended.
Rebellion pistol with scope is recommended.
a single use of "freeze burst" from Rebellion should delete akonitum (easy difficulty).

Archeny boss fight
just like akonitum, she's weak to ice spells and resistant to electric and wind spells.
cool calm is obligatory
painkillers are obligatory
drinking tea in resting room is obligatory
cat bell collar accessory is recommended
calico gun or rebellion are recommended
just like the first fight, struggle then untangle if she throws her web, then evasive posture till she change to combat stance
she will try to inflict "afraid" status to you, both cool calm and painkillers prevent this.

unlocking archeny
defeat her in battle, spare her, both empuse and lampas will appear to convince her. (if they don't come, you lost archeny forever, because she kills herself)

ACT 3 "INTERVENTION"

almost there, sadly titanoboa was waiting for you, the only thing you can do is to delay the inevitable, use defensive posture.
read the note on the new bottomless pit created by the now obliterated oni merchant (and titanoboa).
Quit to tittle.

unlocking titanoboa and hiyakki
remember that spare save i told you before? at the end of Chapter 3-1?
use that backup save, go find the merchant in Chapter 3-1 or any other previous chapter, a new option should appear when talking with oni merchant, a strange device for only $1000, buy it.
proceed normally through act 1 & 2, (backtracking is awful)

battle titanoboa with the oni's assistance.
Calico is recommended.

[Chapter 4]
ACT 1 "REGRET"

unlocking Camazots

beat the act, that's all.

tip: there's no penalty on fucking micah

ACT 2 "SHRIFT"

buy many edge pills before the battle

Daiji boss battle
Recommended gear:
>weapon Calico with stock, Million dollar or Rebellion with magic frame
>Accesory: tanuki's magical leaf, barghest collar (with calico), soul repose gem, yomi's feathers (for magic users)
>Spells: Hell break is obligatory (requires Maxlvl limit break and Psi fire magic), Sylph Storm, Psi Tornado, Cool Calm
>Consumables: Lampas Drop(1), dispel flute(1), morphine(5), adrenaline(8), Painkiller(+10), ice beast's egg (6 ~ 8), lightning drums (6 ~ 8)

General tips:
keep hell break active during the entire fight
if you can't afford the throwing elemental items, make sure to spend some SP on ice and lightning magic
don't use edge pills unless you really need it

First Phase:
Strong againts magic, little physical resistance
she will use attacks similar to mukuro's time stop, use defensive posture and violent struggle afterwards.
if she expose her breast, evasive posture works BUT using wind magic will stun her for a turn and will receive more damage.
don't mind the legs bind, struggle only if she binds the arms.

Second Phase:
Strong againts physical, weak againts almost every element (specially fire)
her mouth bind can and will make you lose the battle if left unchecked, UNLESS you drank a lampas drop before her mouth gag, a special dialogue will trigger and she will no longer use pollen attacks and mouth gag for the rest of the phase, making it pretty easy
don't pay attention to the legs bind.

third phase: (hardest phase)
weak againts ice, minimal physical resistance
keep sylph storm on
just like phase 1 she will use mukuro's time stop, use defensive posture and violent struggle afterwards.
also, in similar fashion to mother rabbit, she will prepare her legs to jump on you, use evasive posture to avoid it
use morphine or concentration to reduce lust
use ice beast's egg to inflict heavy damage

fourth phase:
almost invulnerable to physical damage, weak againts magic specially lightning
use offensive Wind magic to get rid of her binding just like Echo
her dancing, just like nina is pretty simple
lust increases gradually, use morphine
she will try to inflict afraid twice, get rid of it with painkillers
use lightning drums to inflict heavy damage

once the fourth phase is over, go to actions menu and call yuuma
then go back to the safe zone and grab the linear cannon.

Daiji second boss battle (endurance)
Recommended gear:
>weapon Linear Cannon
>Accesory: tanuki's magical leaf or mucus cream
>Spells: Hell break is obligatory
>Consumables: Edge Pill (+2) or morphine (4)

you can't escape from being fucked, use defensive posture.
the moment you get free, use edge pill, then hell break.
another, cheaper option would be, with mucus cream equipped, use hell break right away, next turn use morphine and finally concentrate
rinse and repeat
on last phase you can't escape her kiss (endure it), just receive it you kissless virgin (two smooches in total), on the next turn the struggle option is avaible once more, once free, aim you linear cannon at her.

[EX 1]
Harpy tips:
she's extremely weak to fire damage.
her evasion is high so pray to the rng gods.
Rebellion with magic frame is recommended.
keep hell break active, her binds are hard to break by normal means.

Queen harpy tips:
she's resistant to magic, use physical.
high vit and will is needed (abode lvl 5), in case of lacking SP, frozen works pretty well.
recommended gear.
Spells: Hell break, cool calm (a must), frozen.
weapons: every upgraded firearm.
accesory: tanuki's magical leaf, barghest's collar (works well with calico).

she deals heavy magic damage and will act twice per turn most of the time
she uses "mother's words" and "seductive breath", those causes ecstasy, cool calm prevent this debuff
her harpies will try to grab you, struggle, (hell break get rid of bind in a single turn)
sometimes she'll lift herself on top of you, showing her lower body, use evasive posture twice.
lust's a non-issue with frozen or tanuki's leaf.

[EX 2]
Momo (Vampire Girl) tips:

At the start you'll automatically fail the dance. When you'll be given the option to pick a choice, don't pick any (press "X/Cancel"),
When you can you choose between two options for the second time, pick the first one.

Evil Lampas tips:
As soon as you're done moving rocks out of the way you'll come across another rabbit toy, use it to save, then proceed south and go down the ladder. You'll get hugged from behind by a Lampas as soon as you land, normally, you only need to struggle violently once to free yourself, but! First, there's an extra loss scene to unlock here, you can simply spend your turn waiting and she'll proceed to rape you. Congratulation, you've just earned the fourth loss scene for Lampas.

The Bear and escape section tips:
You should come across another rabbit toy right after the previous segment, use it to save. In this part you'll be followed around by a bear toy and various Lampas, in case you get caught in a battle with them, you can easily escape by using the 8 MP boot/shoe/foot skill, that will get them to disappear for a bit. Now let's do business! Again, there's another loss scene to view here: first, make sure to get caught by the bear and, much like with the Evil Lampas, don't do anything, you'll be caught in a bind, eventually.
In order to proceed to the next area you must make your way south (stick to the left side, there's a lever you must pull to unlock a passage), then go north and this time stick to the right side, you'll reach a ladder.

Corrupted Momo tips:
Important Step #1 - Okay, you're an adult again, open the inventory before doing anything else and gear up+heal yourself. Important Step #2: Make sure to talk to Hyakki (Oni Merchant), before entering the door the left and proceeding to fight corrupted Momo, she has some VITAL tips on how to proceed in the next part.
Now, let's talk about the battle with Corrupted Momo. You'll want to keep Hell Break and Cool Calm active, she has two forms, one with a standard colour palette and another where she turns blue. The former is weak to magic attacks and immune to physical attacks, the opposite is true for the latter.

Hake tips:
This is another of those "you must lose" kind of fights. Yeah, you may attempt to struggle violently once, but your freedom will be short-lived, trust me.

How to escape the "Infinite Loop":

Again, I hope you made sure to talk to Hyakki before the previous Boss battle with Corrupted Momo (she should have been close to the door leading to the boss fight). Okay, you can no longer load up normally your game, big deal, close the game and check your game folder, you should notice a new .txt file named "MAIL[HYAKKI]", it contains instructions on how to get out of the infinite loop. Alternatively, hold 'Q' + 'W' (the default controls for 'L' and 'R') when choosing 'START' on the title menu. After that, pick a bunch of options on the new menu and play through the butterfly escape section. Once you're done, load your game again, go fight Hake and everything will work out.

[EX 3]

Two fairies tips:
Go in the opposite direction of the shadow (first should be the left path), a fight with two fairies should start. When you regain control of Kazuya, use Painkillers (for reference with the shop machine in the Hell Room, pick the second option, it's the item which costs 200), then use the strongest Struggle option.

First fight with cheshire cat (purple hair/one-eyed woman) tips:
Use offensive Wind magic to break free of her grab move.

Blonde Spider Girl tips:
How to unlock extra scene - Fend her off enough times for the flow of battle to change, she will start a conversation with you, pick: 2, 2, 2.

Directions to pick, in order to proceed - North (past blue column/pillar), turn and go south as soon you see the green thing, then pick right when you see the gold statue.

Second fight with cheshire cat (purple hair/one-eyed woman) tips:
Always use the defend move (not sure about its name, it has the icon of a shield). Also, I don't know if it is a requirement, but things for me proceeded when I talked to her once I had reached maximum "Dependency".

Second encounter with little fairies (Dark Haired one) tips:
Pick the "talk" option, then the second choice. After that, simply use the new move (the one which gives you MATK UP) until you unlock magic again, lastly, one use of wind offensive magic should be enough.

Adult/Queen Fairy tips:
First things first, make sure you have ALL your stuff equipped, then proceed. Pick bottom choice, then top choice. She transforms and fight starts, keep Hell Break (150 spell) and the Wind (Evasion) up all the time, then simply beat her down.

Unlock extra scene - When she talks to you before the actual fight, pick the bottom choice twice.

How to proceed with Adult Sphinx:
Escape from the fight. Talk to Queen Fairy and Cheshire Cat, you need to replay the Sphinx Riddles bit (you can do so with the Memory Machine in Hell). Afterwards, go back to EX3, talk to the little fairies, drink tea once and speak to the green-haired fairy to spy on Sphinx. Drink tea and attempt to spy on Sphinx again, rinse and repeat (I had to use all 5 units of tea) until Adult Sphinx starts snoring and you can proceed.
So is the iron maiden's level 3 charm at the 4th struggle is supposed to happen?

I'm having some trouble accessing all of the EX scenarios. This might be a stupid question, but I just completed the first one and none of the other crystals are activating. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to activate them or get to any of the other EX scenarios. I've checked the guide, but it only gives tips about how to beat the scenarios, not how to actually get to them. If anyone can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it!

this is... kind of frustrating.
It's my fault for picking hard, but against the weakest enemies of the game mc literally kills himself before I even get to pick an input. Just says "Heavy/Terminal Corruption" and starts me off at 8-0 VT, 0Will, and 100% lust. Tea or no tea. I thought difficulty would be a strategy thing, but it seems to be more a "you're dead before the battle even begins."

You ever read that LN called "The Tutorial is too Hard?" In it, the mc literally has to level grind by getting shot a bunch of times and running back to the saferoom for free healing. That's this. Find where I'm supposed to go, hoping to not get a random encounter the whole way, and then run back to the saferoom to save. Barely made it to where the shopkeeper introduces herself. currently trying to get the maachine pistol back to the saveroom. No idea where to go from there.

I managed to beat a dog once, when there were no "accidents," but haven't been able to recreate the scenario yet. I have no idea how I'm gonna level/money grind like this. Whichever demon(s) got this game a vore tag better have absolutely spectacular scenes after going through all this.

Heavy or terminal corruption is an insta game over most of the time even on easy. You're better of considering them another loss scene. Check your passive skills. You should have something like "Barghest's Mate lvl 1". That's what's causing it. Each time you lose to a monster that skill levels up by 1, for a max of 5. Each increase in level gives you a debuff and a harder "loss scene" with heavy corruption at lvl4 and terminal corruption at lvl max. The only ways to reduce the skill lvl is either using assist points or by beating the monster. So yeah, either restart and proceed more carefully or good luck beating them with all the debuffs.

That explains the five down arrows in every fight. Thanks for the heads up.
It's kinda funny the main difficulty mechanic isn't affected by difficulty.

I might see if I can manage to kite them until I get to an area with differnet enemies I can grind for money to buy weapon upgrades. I can potentially win the fight if I don't get an accident anyway; it's really just the pre-battle suicides that are an issue.

Thinking about it, if winning clears this, I should be able to spam fights right outside the saferoom until I get a fair start, save every time I win, and alt-f4 every accident..

Oh, don't fight them if you're just going to grind. The only Barghest you HAVE to fight is the first one. So long as you follow the story you will quickly end up in the next area where there's a different girl. You won't have the debuffs cuz she's not a Barghest and she has better drops so you're better of farming there

Is this just bad writing?
I don't see how its bad writing? Changing small details to fit in with the route is not rare for stories with multiple endings. The route you chose is the life you picked, and there's no reason its backstory should be exactly the same as the others
