Install or update Microsoft DirectX and Visual C++ Runtimes--- either one is missing on your PC
Started the game. Walked up go a taskboard, opened the first task to see what this is about. Game asks me to select a slave (I don't have one yet) and I can't close that window or get away from the missionboard in any way. My only option is to alt f4, so I do just that.
Now every time I try to start the game, it crashes with a fatal error. Amazing work this is.

I have the same problem in the $15 version.
You got it or not, it doesn't work the same way.
And it's a big mistake not to be able to resign from the task board. Esc is not working. You either take the job, or get lost.
