VN Ren'Py Abandoned Stormside [v0.23.1.4] [Atemsiel]

Was fiddling around with search parameters when I got curious as to which abandoned game was most beloved (thought it might have been My Sweet Neighbors actually). As it turns out, this game is the most highly rated game on F95 to be abandoned...ever!



Just goes to show how much this game had going for it... If only the dev hadn't shot himself in the foot by piling on ever more branches until the game became unmanageable for a dev team of one. It's far from the first game that has fallen into this trap and it certainly won't be the last.

A few devs learnt from it and came back to try again with a streamlined plan (e.g. The Dev of "Dirty Pool" came back with "My Best Deal," "Shadows over Manston" dev came back with "Defending Lydia Collier"). Mayhaps we'll see Atemsiel reappear yet.

For "Sorting: weighted rating" click the red star (rightmost icon) under Sorting. "Date limit: anytime" is already the default. It means the slider under date limit is as far left as possible. For "Prefix: Abandoned", click the little downward pointing icon under Prefix to open that submenu, then tick the marked check mark.

A lot of devs use the same model packs, that might be the similarity, and if you are sure it isn't just coincidence, can you give some examples of a release in the last 6 months that featured Atem's style?

it's not about the assets, it's his animation style that is easily recognizable.
I haven't played much AVN these last 6 months, but in Companion of Darkness the last two updates, you could see immediately it was him, and he was actually credited for animating scenes.

thanks for the update! so he disappeared for everyone. either an unfortunate accident, or a life changing event/decision.
I guess with that, it would have been nice to get what he was working on for the game, even if not complete.

Since that question is quite vague, you could try AlwaysFan or Desert Stalker. They have good stories.

+1 for AlwaysFan. The renders are a little rough, but it's an excellent thriller with high replayability due to very meaningful choices.

Now & Then is another completed game with a really great story. This one is essentially kinetic.

1. Click on "Latest Updates" in the top row site menu.
2. On the right-hand side, under "Sorting" click the right-most icon (star) to sort by "Weighted Rating".
3. Much further down, click the little red gadget to the right of "Prefix: Status" to open the options of that filter. Click the check mark next to "Abandoned".

That's obvious nonsense. Eternum, Cosy Cafe and Pale Carnations are examples of HS games that are thriving and seem to be in no danger of being abandoned. Once in a Lifetime (Eternum's predecessor), AlwaysFan (similar to Pale Carnations), Now & Then (road movie during zombie apocalypse), Solvalley School (sitcom) and My Bully is my Lover (harem with romantic couple story) are examples of large finished HS games. (Solvalley School and My Bully is my Lover have proper endings. They are just not officially finished yet as the developer wants the option to add additional endings. PS: The ending of My Bully is my Lover is a secondary one and we have been promised a massive expansion.)

These are some of the best and longest of all Ren'Py AVNs. In terms of quality, Stormside fits precisely into this list. However, the developer made it clear from the beginning that he isn't motivated by money but by an artistic vision that involves immense branching and was always likely to lead to slow development. Maybe the negative feedback from people who were not prepared to accept that combined with time constraints and the practical difficulties of branching ate too much motivation. I hope there will be a miracle and the developer turns up again to continue the game anyway. It would be a shame if not, though of course what we already have is extremely valuable anyway. Stormside will always be one of my favorite games, even if the current version is all we will ever get.

Passing on a thank you for your 'name drop' of several games. While I have already been playing Eternum and Pale Carnations, the other titles, Cosy Cafe, Once in a Lifetime, AlwaysFan, Now & Then, Solvalley School, and My Bully is my Lover, were all new to me. I started with Cosy Cafe, up to Sep 22nd so far, and if the rest are close to as I good I owe you a BIG thank you. I appreciate the unintemtional advise. Just thoughtI would pass that on.

I think it was the game concept that caught so many people's attention, sad to see it abandoned.

If anyone wants something similar, play That New Teacher, also HS.

Still hope the dev of this game comes back.

How's the plot and how's the characters in it as individuals? I like Stormside and I like most of the girls her on their own merits, but I normally don't do harem games. Is New Teacher good if your a non-harem type?

Pretty good from what I remember The game has a PRETTY similar premise to Stormside, what with the MC being the dude put in charge of disciplining the girls at a school, and he is one horny, no morals, bastard... I will warn you though, it is very much an Incest game, and by far one of the most NETORI focused ones, I've seen in a while.

Including such actions as, stealing your Little Brothers Girlfriend Seducing your mother from your father. And banging one of your students repeatedly, who has a boyfriend (he even walks in on the MC pounding her the first time, and runs away... ) Oh and i'm like 99% sure you're going to bang your sister at some point...

It has a lot of potential IMO, with quite a few characters, with good potential (The School nurse is fucking insane and funny) and I can't wait for the next updates...
