Yeah, Ariane and I have a long history of inspiring each other. Her first game is what caused me to start creating my own erotic games so long ago. And I was one of the first devs to start putting stories in the western AVN genre that she invented, which drove her to follow suit. She also did the first port of my original Elsaverse games to Renpy (we both started out in HTML) and I used that work as a template for my official ports (which ended up becoming the Omnibus). I definitely wouldn't be here if not for Ariane.

Tlaero
Yeah, that's another thing I saw while reading those three posts. How long you've been in the scene too.

I must say it's quite humbling and inspiring to see all of that. (Made me think I should just focus on getting better and keep doing what what needs to be done.)

I don't know the history of AVNs and stuff, but from what I remember those early html games she made were some of the only adult games that had a story. I don't remember anything else like it at the time. And, if I remember right, it wasn't the html boiler template common today. Much cleaner.

Can anyone tell me what's so great about "Leap of Faith"? I've read a lot of reviews and comments praising it as one of the best NV out there, but I'm just not drawn to the characters and I've already downloaded it 3 times trying to follow the story, but I'm so disinterested, I've only gotten as far as the part after the plane ride.

So I want to ask if something more interesting happens later.

EXACTLY LIKE THAT, I'm eager to do a full bomb review on how that game is a massive turn off and has every element which make an AVN wrong. I bought it after it was finished because it had such high praises I took for granted that the game was at least serviceable.

I thought about writting the review in the game's thread, but it's probably full of fanbois and I understand they won't like to read it.

So, for the time being, these are the reasons why I think the game has a TERRIBLE story development and interactions with women, and NOBODY interested in story heavy games should play it:

1º Women throw themselves at the protagonist for no reason at all. Even a rockstar singer he didn't know beforehand does it after a 2 minutes chance conversation  WTF It's the most unreal thing I ever saw in a story, and I'm including fantasy games with magic, hentai games etc... This is the typical hentai experience but this was supposed to be a game with a serious story.

2º Story development and interaction with women looks like it was written by a 12 years old boy with 0 experience about real, actual 18 to 50 women. Except for one character (more on this on 3º point), they don't talk like that, they don't think like that, they don't act like that and they for sure don't interact with a nobody man like that.

3º The main LI is a textbook young BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) with suicidal tendencies. This is the point I might be more biased to think this isn't any kind of groundbreaking element in the history of storytelling, because if you never knew one you might be impacted. But if you had any kind of dating experience (either fuckboi or just looking for a LTR) or if you happened to interact with one for a mid to long period of time, then they aren't any kind of positive surprise to you. You wouldn't feel sorry for them and wouldn't want to have any of it with them, because you would know they are trouble asking for help they will reject when offered, among many other toxic behaviours.

This is the most realistic character in the game, I suppose it's because I read somewhere that the author based this game on her daughter, which commited suicide, so he knew BPDs well. It's an odd thing to do a tribute to your suicided daughter in the form of a porn game, but that's the way it was. The other women are taken out of a 12 years old boy fantasy, very shocking for a man which had sons, you can presume he had to deal with at least a woman.

4º I couldn't put up with the game for long, but from what I know from my gameplay experience and what I read from others, you get a hentai harem in place just to be required to end up with only one. And the story is presented, as hard as it could, for you to end up with the BPD. Really? The game sets up a hentai harem for you just to be REQUIRED to choose only one? I get it had to be the BPD because it's the author own daughter, but then why setting up the harem story.

5º I couldn't put up with the game for long enough to check this myself, but I know from reading spoilers that the protagonist was married to the perfect, loving and caring woman, which dumped him by suddenly disappearing, and it results she did it because she was a spy. LOL WTF then again hentai fantasy here, real life spy women are cold, soulless whores which would NEVER marry a nice guy AND THEN REGRET DUMPING HIM. They might marry a nice guy if it suits them, but they would never care about it, they would just ride onto the next dick with absolutely no regrets, because all they care about is they themselves.

I couldn't finish the game but I'm sure the end is a shitshow as shitty as the beginning and mid parts.

I just can't understand how the game became as famous and as well rated, it's really subpar at every possible level, I thought it might be because it was released many years ago (like in 2016 or something like that) and it was ground breaking then, but no, it was finished in 2022 so it's not old.

The great debate is, was and always will be about the substance in story and the prowess of our gaming experiences around these parts, which is the right debate to have. Whichever part of that debate you might be on, you are right about catering to your tastes and modelling your free time after what it is that gives you the endorfines you require for a good time.

On the other hand, adult life takes you places and all that remains are the good/foggy/bad bits and pieces of the memories that shape your character whenever you look in the mirror or inside the inner sanctum of your soul to see what images shine back.
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
The contended games that are three - they are all Mission impossible / Top Gun / Fast and Furious type games with swift and sweeping romanticized hook ups and bits and pieces of relationship - building plot progression, sprinkled around the fast paced action montages.
What all of the above means is that - if you are not a fan of Tom Cruise / Ethan Hawk / Vin Diesel / Paul Walker . Dwaine Johnsoms, Jason Statham, Charlize theron, Jason Momoa and/or their many associates and/or antagonists, but also enjoy the convoluted and contorted many plot points, that are all running close to eachother never touching and sometimes, they twist and wrestle eachother, interwoven with eachother in such movies and the games modelled around them, you will be a sower grape in their rollercoaster gameplay while the majority of the other players will scream their hearts out coupiously entertained by the outstanding visuals, beautiful and interesting characters and the many interwoven plot strands running through them like love at first sight cutting your breath and melting your heart.

To keep the story going - Superman only became ”attractive” to Lois as Clark after a lot of superhero feats.
Edward Cullen only stroke the love bone of Bella after he superhumanly saved her from sudden death or serious danger.
Only after Bumblebee performed outstanding ”mating rituals” onto Megan Fox and the car was revealed to be phenomenal, did she suddenly notice the driver - who was not even that, Bumblebee was sentient and did all the stunt driving to impress on his own.
MC of Leap of Faith is a nepo baby with a devoted best friend and a mountain of ”oil money” that Stephanie knows all too well - and the total trope of ”protector or savior gets the girl” from that old Whitney Houston - Kevin Costner - Bodiguard movie is a fan favourite story and plot breakthrough into making sudden romances beliaveble, beyond the nonsensical IRL ”love at first sight” occurances.
I'm really clueless about how this might be possible
unbelievable romances is Transformers 1, that a very nerdy and socially clumsy Shia LaBeouf could romance "bad girl into bad boys" prime Megan Fox

Interesting points, so games like Leap of Faith are good for audiences which want a very fast and stylized rollercoaster ride of emotions.

This is totally beyond me, I'm really clueless about how this might be possible, and I for one enjoyed:
  • Top Gun 1 romance, it was reasonably realistic for a movie, and an action move at that. Tom Cruise was an outstanding fighter pilot (it was considered the sexiest military role) and she worked at the academy, he was peak physique including a pretty face and he acted very alpha and careless of danger. The relationship developed slowly while both played their game, not suddenly forced by external events. I've seen relationships like that IRL all the time. Days of Thunder romance, on the other hand, felt very much forced and I think this is a much better example (at least for me) of what you meant than Top Gun 1.
  • I enjoyed both Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, still having Before Midnight pending. Someone told me there was a 4th instalment planned but one of the protagonists didn't want to film it so it stalled. Considering they were movies, I didn't feel the relationship development was fake or over the top. Even though specially the first one would have never happened today because absolutely nobody would commit like that anymore after a single night, but at the time (1995) it was very much alright. I think those are the most relevant Ethan Hawk movies for this topic, but there might be better examples of him with fast romance/action.
The other actors are extreme cases of fast and furious  but they are always somehow displayed as at the very top of attractiveness for their sex (roughness, extreme muscularity, violence and lifestyles full of danger for males; pretty faces and bodies for females). They are never normal nobodies, for that you need to look at the Mary Sueness of other dubious pieces of artwork like Twilight or 50 sades of Grey. The protagonist of Leap of Faith IS a Mary Sue, intentionally, he himself said he was a retired cleaner.

The over the top action movie that comes to my mind when thinking about unbelievable romances is Transformers 1, that a very nerdy and socially clumsy Shia LaBeouf could romance "bad girl into bad boys" prime Megan Fox is indeed the stuff of science fiction.

Me too. It sucks visiting this site for years and barely finding a fmc erotic/porn game that's only targeted to women. So, BL games are my new fixation.
Also agree. I actually ended up in this thread today looking exactly for that.

Yeah, I don't know much of the AVN history either. All I remember is when I got into western VNs, High Life was the most visually polished AVN I had seen.

But now, there are games that make High Life look (just a bit) dated.

So, it's been amazing to witness the evolution of VNs even if I only joined halfway.

I can't even imagine how cool it'd have been to have witnessed the AVN scene right from its infancy. (And in the case of creators like Ariane and Tlaero, have a direct hand in shaping it.)

WOW amazing, it's like you can read my mind through the screen, it's exactly how I feel, it's like everything is so crazy you go from being sad to having women come out from everywhere specifically for you, we went from 0 to 100 in less than 5 minutes and it's overwhelming to think that all the women in this game are not happy and for some reason you are the only one who can give them what they are looking for, it's stressful because you will hurt all the others which is fucked up, maybe if they weren't so lacking in affection I wouldn't feel so bad but it's hard.

And yes, obviously I lean towards the girl with BPD because she is simply the one who is in the worst condition and who knows what she would do if you don't choose her, which being that the author is emotionally manipulating me.

I can't even figure out if this is a show of superiority over the "fanbois", contempt for them, or fear of being rejected and not getting validation in their "pathetic fanboish community." Why you care about "fanbois" opinions when deciding whether to publish your review of a game.

So, for the time being, these are the reasons why I think the game has a TERRIBLE story development and interactions with women, and NOBODY interested in story heavy games should play it:
Wow, I'm not a big fan of LoF, although I think it's a decent story-driven adult game and it has its moments that make it worth playing despite all its flaws. But I still don't see how my interest in a story-heavy games can stop me from enjoying lighter, comedic stories like LoF, where the comedic and uplifting moments still outweigh the tragic elements of the plot. Some adult stories prioritize pacing and excitement over realism, but that doesn't make them bad.

2º Story development and interaction with women looks like it was written by a 12 years old boy with 0 experience about real, actual 18 to 50 women. Haha, now probably 90% of the AVN developers and scriptwriters of TV shows and films have burst into tears and walked away into the sunset.

Never has a comment left me feeling so conflicted. I read a bit that has me saying "yes, exactly, I agree!" (LoF is a bad game) which sadly is immediately followed by some deranged screed. Generalizations galore, calling random women whores, unironically using "nice guy"... Not once, not twice, but soo many times...

Welcome to the club of LoF haters. I just cannot believe how bad this game is, seeing all the positive reviews. All the characters are dull and boring, speaking in cliches. The MC is the worst. He and his BF try to goof around but it feels annoying, just like a bunch of stupid teenager's jokes. And his job is basically a looser shit cleaner (sewage worker). Very inspiring for all the stylish women to jump on him ))

The singer and the spy plot lines are just unfeasible beyond the suspension of disbelief. The lesbian couple are annoying and cheesy. The MG is seriously damaged beyond repair but that's why I guess the game is so popular. People like damaged things.

The graphics are outdated, the UI and gameplay are cumbersome and a pain to use. And I'm not even talking about lots of other stupid plot points, like the MC jumping forward and catching the Cece's hand and dragging her (being off balance) out of the void at the very last moment. As a guy who studied physics I'm sure she would drag him with her, or at least he couldn't stop her from falling down.

Seriously, I cannot think of any redeeming qualities of that game. That's why I say I hate this game. If it would be just another poorly written boring game, I wouldn't care. But it is a star of this site and it's so bad in any possible sense, that it just feels cringey. Well, I guess millions of flies cannot be wrong.

I enjoyed it for a while. Unlike most games, I thought the humor worked. And I thought it was well written and some of the characters had interesting depth.

What made me quit is a total "me" thing. Through the first half of the story it seemed like a typical harem set up. Then it made you choose two. But it was so early in the story I knew I'd never go back and play all the paths.

The main LI is a textbook young BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) with suicidal tendencies. Fortunately you don't speak for everyone, or accurately portray everyone for that matter. Some people will be in relationships with people with BPD -and other disorders, and some people with them will get help.

The mix between trying to tell good story and the need to provide "dating simulation" does not always work. In a lot of AVN games, it doesn't work that well.

For Leap of Faith, the game would have a better story if it's just Cece and maybe a couple other characters. There's too many characters in Leap of Faith.
Cece story was good enough. It's not perfect, but some things in it was worth reading. When I was playing the game or just finished playing the game, I do remember thinking and saying that Cece does not need a new boyfriend, not at that particular moment.

Except for one character (more on this on 3º point), they don't talk like that, they don't think like that, they don't act like that and they for sure don't interact with a nobody man like that.
There's a lot of AVN like this tbh. Leap of Faith is not alone on this point. This is why to me, characters inner monologue is a hit or miss for me. One person (usually main character) inner monologue is one thing, but when a game has inner monologues for many of it's characters, often time it doesn't work for me because often time the writer is not good enough to be able to write inner monologues for that many of their characters.

On a different note,

I happened across the Ariane Universe games last year and fell in love with it big time. (I honestly thought it was one of those projects that didn't have an audience despite being good.)

But only after seeing this post, did I check out ArianeB's site (and the 3-part history of her games.)

I did NOT know how influential the game was in shaping the entire western AVN scene as we know it.
Your comment reminded me of vdategames that I played a long time ago. Characters would be loosely found in each other's stories and I enjoyed the stories that came out of them. It's been so long since I played them that I do not remember if they were story first. But it certainly did have narratives from what I remember.

Hi there Jufot, how've been you been? Been way too long.

I've come to ask your opinion on a few titles.

Chasing Sunsets: I know the author. They're someone that's actually lived, has a life, and and based off of their own life experiences. this one I especially would like your thoughts on

Streaming for Love: The person that recommended it to me compared it to Leap Of Faith, before it fell apart.
The Missing Part
Sort of Justice

Edit:
I also forgot to ask, what have you liked that's come out in the last 2 years? Anything that you'd especially recommend?

Edit: Also, while I'm here, Rebirth Episode 1 was my favorite VN for years, and is still one of my faves, and I hope to get to the rest of the series now that it's complete. I'd love to hear your spoiler free thoughts on the series.(well, spoiler free past the first episode anyways.)

Streaming for Love: The person that recommended it to me compared it to Leap Of Faith, before it fell apart.
Probably was me comparing it to LOF , since I made a few post like that 1 on this site and 2 on reddit. I was only comparing how sad and hard the game hit me emotionally like LOF but overall it isn't meant to be sad at all. One part can be sad depending on how you take it personally and how much blame you put on the MC for his misfortune and break up.

It really was only sad for me because of an attachment I got for 1 of the LI so seeing the MC get dumped over it really hit me harder than it should. Especially cause it was one of the rare times I was actually able to immerse myself and get into the MC's shoes. Which is something I just cant do in 90% of AVN's out there

Another game I would also compare it to would probably a more appropriate comparison would be the Prologue of Fog of War. However that part may not be sad for some people so I used LOF as it's more well known for being sad and the games I mentioned hit me harder than LOF personally even tho LOF was a sadder game.

But for context for the FOW comparison . I thought the MC and his GF made a really good couple so when the GF breaks up with him in the prologue it hit me really hard that I almost dropped the game and I had to go and check she comes back otherwise I wasn't gonna play it.

Both cases for FOW and Streaming for Love hit me harder than LOF was because the attachment I had for the LI during the break ups. As I wanted them and the MC to have many more interactions together and be happy. So when the break ups happened and the possibility of no more interactions with them and things were over between them it just hit me like a truck because of my attachments I made for those 2 LI. Even tho I know they will most likely get back together cause it's a game.

Hope that makes sense

Yep, we just spoke on reddit. I'm about to give the first chapter a shot.
ah i thought it was you. I will say it did take me until either the end of CH 1 or part way into CH 2 to get into the game then by Ch 3 I was feeling all the things I was feeling that I stated in my post with how hard the game hit me lol. But objectively id say it's just an average game

Btw, since I can talk freely about F95, how vital is that crack? Will it just give me some nice extras, or is it the only way to access thegame past chapter 2?

Edit: Also, where's the walkthrough mod for it?
