Recommending Story-first games

Sadly. still recommending what's there so far. worth noting that the tags on here are completely inaccurate as it stands Reincarnotica is a pretty wholesome experience might be worth skipping the prologue, though
I've read the AVN "Summer Heat". Which brings up the obvious question. Does it turn up the heat? 
Is it hot?...
Well, it's pretty damn hot if you just go by how the game looks. Then renders are very good, very detailed, very crisp. Game looks pretty amazing to be honest... The story and the dialogue on the other hand are more like lukewarm at best so far. It made me unintentionally laugh on serveral occasions because all the characters in it are just so cliche. The hot, but not so smart, red head, The jealous bff of yours who has a crush on you. The introverted "emo" girl.., The comic relief chick.... it's all there. It probably goes without saying that they're all proper virgins...
Oh, and of course your guy friend who's with you is someone who likes to play video games all day and therefore never leaves his room. And of course he isn't even allowed to do sports with one of the other girls... So the laughable ego stroking train is running strong also in this game just like in almost any other AVN... You're the only real man here! =).
Interestingly enough though, before i started the game i've noticed that it has the, at least for the future, "horror" tag. So if you look at the game from a potential "Slasher" game/movie perspective this would be indeed a classic setup up for this kind of thing. But at this point it's very doubtful imo and judging by how the game is advertised so far it doesn't really come across like that type of game...we'll see i guess.. maybe?
If this would be my game i'd let the player choose 1 LI in the early stages of it and then slowly kill off the rest of them one by one. You know, having fun with it and all that... Not gonna happen though since AVN's have the creative freedom of a chaste nun...
Anyway.., so at worst i'd say it'll become a pretty good, fairytale porn game and at best it'll be some kind of mix of a slasher/porn/whatever game (i doubt it'll be the latter, but one can hope) which makes it ultimately a pretty solid, not story first, game i guess?. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for "something pretty"

A Long Journey has a new update out for patrons, it should show up here soon. The writing continues to be strong, consistent and rational. So far, not one character has behaved even slightly in an unrealistic manner. There are interesting power dynamics at play, and everyone acts exactly how I'd imagine they would in real life.
The game is also visually gorgeous, which just adds to the immersion

Definetly try Lust Academy. After a long, long time off skipping through "boring and mostly the same" stories gave me a good laugh, and the story seems fleshed out. I honeslty enjoy it very much and the top tier models help
One game I personally enjoy (which apparently recently got an update) is timestamps. There's a whole lot wrong with it, and it most definitely leans very VERY heavy into the porn logic (Hell it's like 75% of the entire plot), but it does have something that somewhat resembles a story, decent humor, but mostly I'm a huge fan of all the references spread through out it. (Mostly every time-travel movie ever made, plus a bunch of other sci-fi stuff).
It definitely wouldn't come close to ever making the OP, but if you don't mind massive amounts of porn logic in your games, I do think it's worth a play.

I tried out Mad World as well. The start is shaky, but it improves a lot as the Dev finds his rhythm. Good use of flashbacks and selective revelations to tell the MC's backstory, which is more complicated than it first appears. I'd put it ahead of Sorcerer and Reluctant Archon in the Urban Fantasy field.
That was basically my feeling as well. The renders are very well done and the writing is solid for a wish-fulfillment type game. So far it doesn't seem to be story-first, but it's a good AVN and I'll keep an eye on it.

Thoughts on Toro 7's latest update?
As Tlaero said here, this new game mechanic where you have limited time slots and have to pick & choose which bits of dialogue you experience is an experiment. For me, it's starting to look like a failed one.
I like the characters! They are mostly charming people who are doing their best under challenging circumstances. They have relatable, interesting backstories. The trouble is, I can't see how any of them (except for the doctor) could have an impactful connection to the plot at all. I mean, the game is a murder mystery, but no one onboard could be guilty of that because they are all loveable LIs! (If an LI is actually the murderer, or if Tlaero pulls a Murder on the Orient Express, I'll happily eat my words. That'd be so awesome)
Relatedly, choosing to talk to one person over another feels pointless because all such choices are optional and therefore have no narrative impact. It means I can't investigate the murder at all. I can only chase LIs, and the plot is advanced automatically by the few mandatory scenes. It almost feels like there are two separate games here that were joined together, to the detriment of both. One is a murder mystery kinetic novel, the other a light dating sim. I think I'd enjoy them even more separately.

In Agatha Christie mysteries, there's no possible way for you to figure it out, because she gives the inspector information that she doesn't give the reader.
In Sherlock Holmes mysteries, you theoretically can figure it out because Doyle gives you all the information that Holmes gets, but, because so much of that information isn't relevant, the answer is hidden.
I don't deserve to even be mentioned in the same sentence as those writing giants, but I think about their approaches quite a bit. I'm trying to go somewhere in between. There is information that's important to the mystery in the user chosen conversations. And it's conceivably possible for you, the player, to figure things out by playing. But your choices won't impact the rate at which the MC solves the mystery.
Making a mystery game where your choices make the character figure things out and, thus, you have the ability to fail to solve the mystery is exceedingly hard. And, while there are people who would enjoy it (probably a sizeable percentage of the people on this thread) the masses would hate it. People get pissed off when they miss a sex scene. They get angry if I give them 3 choices then tell them what they did wrong and give them another chance at those 3 choices. If I let you fail because you missed clues, the hate mail would never stop.

A truly interactive murder mystery, puzzle game would be more like an actual game than an AVN. The whole structure would have to be completely different to make this work in conjunction with being a porn game. Just imagine being able to solve the case on your own within 10 minutes if you're good at this like me..
Then you'd be just sitting on your ass for "10" more chapters, twiddling you thumbs. At that point the MC might as well transfer back to her boring ass warehouse guarding job =)
I do like puzzles though, just recently i played an AVN where, at some point, you had to escape a panic room. Wasn't really challenging, but still fun and also nicely done since the developer found a way to combine lewd stuff with puzzle solving.

I didn't know that, and I'm glad to hear that's the case.
That's completely reasonable as you are right about player expectations, but my problem wasn't just not being able to solve the mystery myself. I also can't see how any of the current personnel of Toro 7 (except the doctor) can be guilty of murder as they are all LIs (players who get mad at missing a sex scene certainly wouldn't tolerate their favourite LI being a murderer). That's what gives me the feeling of two disjointed games existing within one.
My annoyances aside, though, I do like the game and want to see it to its conclusion
This would be accurate. While I didn't want to include the tag since I personally find it disingenuous for those who might be looking for that content explicitly, I also want to make sure the player is aware of what to expect in general. TECHNICALLY, what she does falls under sleep sex, so it was included.
thank you for the recommendation this is greatSuperheroes Suck has an update out, and it's amazing! I won't spoil it, but it's now apparent to me that the entire main story was planned out from the beginning, more than 2 years go.
The dev is taking a break from the story and will be focusing on the sandbox stuff for a while, so this is a good point to catch up for those interested
