25 updates or so in, the lighting and shadows are still bad, the mc's skin is way too shiny and his hair is floating half an inch of his head. The fuck?

What is going on with the Helena woman's cleavage? Did you blow up the skin normal map to be 4x too big?

Very annoying indeed. That shiny skin and the hair all over the place... omg. Almost looks like a renpy game.

Even so, do you realise this is not Rockstar Games or something like that? Some game developers here are better and some don't. It's okay to criticize the game but for such a small issue?

1. believe mediocrity is not something that can or should be improved on.

I actually would like this guy to succeed, but I'm not the first one to point this out. These are basic issues affecting almost every render. Outdoors the lighting just becomes awful - one of the best lighting scenarios for HS2 is outside, you just need to set things up properly. Direct lighting is way easier to get right, there's much less indirect lighting but the materials are setup so confusingly wrong that the characters look like they're made of shiny plastic.

Default environments are lit better than this:

Idk guys. Im just happy that Flynn is releasing stuff so fast. Other devs take much more time to publish the best quality out there, but keep delaying their dates or actually burn out after a while. As long as its not garbage quality and garbage writing, i actually prefer faster releases with somewhat sloppy quality. (its not like im admiring each render for more than 2 minutes anyway...)
With constant releases you can also get a bigger fanbase much faster, allowing more supporters -> possible improvement of quality on the way.

Also this game has been out for like.. 2 years? This means it had more than 10+ updates already. Thats like an update every 2-3 month. Those werent small either. Thats a huge win in my opinion.

You seem to know quite a lot about this. Since you're an expert, why not make your own game with amazing lighting? I'd be very happy to play that when you do.
