TL;DR

that was a really great game.

I don't know where he originally came from and I haven't read the whole thing.
What I didn't quite understand: I think the game was completely free for a year (?) - that is, the first 5 or 6 chapters if I'm not mistaken? Then he moved to Germany and at the end of last year complained that he wasn't earning enough because the game was leaked here again.
Now he's back in his home country and has given up on the game. Did I understand that correctly?
I think it's a shame: at first I thought he didn't need the money and in the end it turned out that the game didn't earn him enough to live on.

Anyone who doesn't need other people's money to make a game is f-in rich. I don't believe any rich person would dabble in making these types of renpy games. There's much more interesting hobbies to pursue.

Yes, even though the game has been abandoned. It's still a great must play game. Just trust and you'll thank me later. Take your time and enjoy it. I wish i could play this for the first time again and not my 107th time
When it comes to games like this one, I really wish I could just wipe my memory and enjoy the game for the first time...
That said: I totally agree on this one. If you didn't played it yet, it's one of the Must Have on this site.

One thing is definite, the dev's first season had more content and a lot enjoyable compare to some popular games in this site.

well if he moved to germany than he would have had enough income on pantreon IF he would not had this TIERS that he had.

he had 260 supporters when he last updated the game and when he had tiers up to ONLY 10$ with this 260 supporters he would have enough to come by i´d say.

Example:
1247€ at 5$ tiers with 260 supporters,or 1847€ at 130 supporters 10$ and 130 suporters at 5€.
even with the pantreon fee and taxes there should be enough to not go bankrupt in germany.
you will not live in luxury, but it would be enough to live and have a roof over the top.
and that is only the supporter count he had and not that he could have if his pricing polity would been different.

i remember he said that he needed to support his family, and i don´t know where they are living, but a alone person can live with that.

but that all is of course a risk, because this market of making a living is highly unstable to depent alone on it of making a living.
the higher the fanbase the better you can afford to handle supporter fluctuations.

Most of people that make these kind of games are doing it as a hobby. That it's why most of them remaining unfinished, people get bored and just start doing other things.

It's understandable, last time he talked about people uploading the game before it should be accessable to the public and the way most users here responded made it clear he couldn't continue. The typical braindead responses and the fact that the game was peaking revenue wise on patreon makes me sad, there are a bunch of games that are half as finished as this one with worse/less work put into them that earned the same amount of revenue. GL dev, hopefully you find success elsewhere.

People in a pirate forum when they find out developers can't make a living when their game gets stolen and released for free against their will:

To be fair, Stray Incubus was probably THE game which leaked the earliest with a relative small number of paying Followers. There are other games here which leak really quickly, but those Devs usually have the income to not care too much about it (e.g. Eternum leaked within minutes after the Release for the highest Tier, but Caribdis makes enough money to not have financial problems because of that). Stray Incubus however did not have that much income, but still leaked very quickly.

Obviously you can discuss whether or not the Dev could have done something against that - and it was discussed multiple times here. But sadly the fact is that a game with a relatively small following leaking that quickly was indeed the issue. Not that it leaked per se.

nahhhh i would not say it leaked early no no no

he had 2 higher tiers, and on these two it never leaked.
it usually leaked 3 weeks after first release because that was the time the thirt lowest supporter got access so the NORMAL paying users so to say.
