I backed the game, but honestly, the slow progress is really disappointing, especially considering the massive amounts of cash it pulled.
They have a beta going on that its regularly updated with new content, they already delivered the calendar and 3 of the 4 promissed hentais and decided on a release date for early 2021. Putting all of this together and the progress of the game seems pretty damn good if you ask me.
The "massive amounts of cash" argument is a slippery slope, people will use it whenever the game doesn't meet their expectations in some way. "Why couldn't the game be made this fast? They have cash for that." "Why couldn't the game be this big? They have cash for that." "Why couldn't the game has X amount of content? They have cash for that" Basically the game is now forbidden of being anything short of flawless because "massive amounts of cash".
This is pure asinine when you consider Studio FOW went into Kickstarter with the hopes of making a game that would cost around 50K-150K and just happened to raise 1M because mainstream gaming outlets like PC Gaming decided to cover their Kickstarter. They never expected to raise this much money, let alone making a game that would live up to such an insane amount of money. Kristoff and DC already made it very clear the vast majority of the money will go into a warchest in order to cover any unexpected expenses or problems they may face along the way and that the scope of the game remains the same one they had when they hoped to only raise 150K because they want to avoid feature creep as much as possible.
Is Subverse "gonna disappoint"? Yes. But not because its looking to be a bad game, but because people are setting their expectations close to the Moon and thinking Subverse will rival triple A games in terms of production values because of "MUH MILLION DOLLARS!!!!".
