I don't entirely agree. Judging you said giving it one star NOW is a bad thing suggests that in your opinion game doesn't deserve to be rated so harshly because of it's current state ( otherwise you wouldn't say "NOW"). I, however, believe that since reviews are editable we should be judging everything that for now is certain, that means everything we can see and experience ourselves. By that I mean not what Studio FOW is talking about their game, not what was promised in KS page, not what people are speculating, but only what the current version shows us. The only thing people agree on being good is VA, not something that should define a porn game. 1 star reviews are saying why it's so bad in their eyes based on what they are seeing. 5 star reviews are saying why it is so good based on what can come out of it in the future. Based on that I don't consider 1 star reviews and 5 star reviews being equivalently bad.

Edit: Also ofc you are free to wait with your review, but since you can edit your review anytime there is nothing wrong in saying what you like and don't about the game in it's current state.
Good points. I may go ahead and post some of the stuff I've noted down on this game so far and just update the review as the game progresses to help folks out who haven't followed it during development.

Thats a lot of words to say you don't know what you're talking about.

Linear refers to narrative, sandbox refers to gameplay. Mass effect is a linear sandbox. Fallout is a linear sandbox. Dragonage is a linear sandbox. Story driven sandbox games are... get this... linear sandboxes. Even with the branch endings (subverse will not have as there is no Player choice in their game design) as one of them is always officially canon. Subverse is a failed linear sandbox, as their only sandbox mechanic is fucking map travel.

I don't see how a barney style breakdown how "Subverse cannot have a retroactively designed and implemented companion system due to the constraints of voiceacting alone." wasn't enough for you. Yeah with massive blood, time, and treasure they could make it not a lie, but it currently was and is a clear lie in their marketing about what the game would be. A lie. Requires a rebuild of their game from the ground up, mechanically and narratively to ever not be a lie.

Bruh, be more discerning in what you consume and defend. If you got trapped by the 2 hour tutorial designed to eat up the return window and need to justify the purchase a lot of this starts clicking into place.
Have you played Fallout or Mass Effect at all? Once initial throw off is done, you can explore and do things in your own order. Dragon Age as well, your sandbox have options, you can do things in the order you want. Sure the story got a start and a end, but you can decide how to end up at that end. There is multiple videos on youtube about people doing speedruns of sandbox games such as Fallout 3, Skyrim and others, bypassing all content to get to the end boss (whatever). How that for linear sandbox for you? You have the over arching main story and then you have side missions, companion /relationsmissions + whatever. If all had been linear you would had to do everything in a specific order, which you don't.

Maybe you should hold off with your hammer of judgement until the actual loyality miissions with the waifus implemented and how the actual dating thing in the bar end up. I prefer to wait until I see how a early access game end up before I throw judgement, write a review etc. Doing it at a 0.1 release with a "know it all" attitude and have no idea how the game end up down the road is pointless.

As for VA. Many games out there had voice actors come back to revise. For dlc's, for sequels and so forth. You make it sound like they done all the recordings, no more can be added or changed. That is silly.

I don't need to justify "my purchase because I bought enough games on early access in the past to know what I embarked on. You always take a risk with early access games but to throw judgment based on the very first release is just stupid. Just as well silly to write 5 star reviews on early access as it is to doom it based on your own hyped expectations.

I never been trapped in ANY game I didn't end up like because tab back to windows and shut down the application is an option other than have to endure something you don't like... I guess you LOVED the tutorial.... although I suspect you didn't actually buy it on steam at all...

I was hoping for such a high budget game that the scenes would be freecam 3D, but alas it is studioFOW so I should've had lower expectations.

You could always look into "AI Shoujo". I found it boring af though... for those arguing price, its on steam at like double of the price of Subverse...

Uh, they haven't said they will change it either, so why expect it?
Because you perfectly know that it will happen anyway.

In two updates from now (but people will still complain after the Elaisha's expansion update):
2.png

But since they are talking about an "expansion" of the pandora system, it won't be a rework as a lot of people are expecting. They will probably just add a massive amount of "3 seconds loop" scenes.

What will suit people's tastes better will be the devotion quests / rewards. We know those rewards will bring complete porn cinematics (they talked about something like 3 minutes cinematics) but we don't know more. I just hope those quests don't reward player with "only" a final cinematic, but give something else before too.

"tiny dev team"? What? Don't they have the budget for a much bigger team considering all the money they got.

looping 3s gifs does not a big budget porn game make
Yes, the big budget is what makes the big budget porn game.
Just because they chose to spend the budget on not-porn doesn't change the fact that it's a big-budget game.
$2 million is a lot.

By what standards?
Compared to all the other porngames.

I already did and posted some calculations on this topic, but Subverse has a budget that is on a comparable scale of Wildlife which is one of the biggest Patreon of F95 (if not the biggest, since adeptus Steve is earning about 100 K a month).

Subverse earned more than 2 millions dollars during their kickstarter campaign and meanwhile wildlife earned about 1,7 millions dollars on the same period.

Plus we have to keep in mind that subverse's budget is not 2 millions dollars anymore. I know that we had some contest about estimating their sale, but it's not ridiculous to think that they earned several more millions.

How much does Adeputs Steve pocket of that income and stuff in the bank vs spend on the project, vs what FOW does? With 100k a month that would be 2.4m over 2 years. I know it increased over time and not been 100k every month. But in that regard they have about same budget to play with.

People stare themselves blind on numbers and doesn't consider expenses, wages and all that jizz. People repeat the 2 million mantra like they think it's a constant number stuffed in some bank account.

When you get paid your wages, do they just enter your bank account and sit there, or do you have bills to be paid?

Also in regard of "porngames"

You're asking for a data we can't and won't have.

Crazy how 1,7m become 2,4m with you. Unless Wildlife remain in development for 4/5 years (which is a possibility), Subverse and Wildlife are as I said on a camparable scale in term of budget, but Subverse is still a few millions higher with those early access sales

I don't care about what a voice actress says (or even a developer). Studio Fow has been known for porn content and this game is still a porngame :

Is it a game ? YES

Does it contain a truckload of porn ? YES

It is totally relevant to compare this game to other porngames.

If you don't care what a VA of the game say, or even the devs, about the game itself and what it is.. Then you are moving into Myth busters territory, to quote Adam Savage "I reject your reality and substitute my own"...

How long Wild Life been in development now? Since 2016 or there abouts. The money Adeptus Steve pulled from Patreon since the launch surely exceed what FOW got on their kickstarter, and most likely chew a good chunk into what they made on steam after early release as well.

This is becoming quite ridiculous. If I'm saying that a tomato is an orange, does it make it an orange despite all logic ?

Subverse is a video game with a lot of porn content in eachs of its aspect (writing / design / gameplay), so it's not stupid to consider it as a porngame, it's not "my reality" it's just "reality". Maybe Studio Fow has a different definition of what's a porngame, but sadly their definition seems to be pretty different of what's the majority of people are thinking.

Ok, i was to harsh attacking the game. I read the subverse update posts, and what they want to do with the game ( much more content, interactions, sex scenes + modding ) and if they pull this out this will be a solid game.

So you know exactly how much Adeptus Steve made then I suppose. and can say that for sure... so how much they made then?
2 116 277 $ since the start of his patreon (since April 2016).

Studio Fow got 1 668 626 £ from kickstarter.

Kickstarter ended May 2nd and exchange rate was 1,32 between £ and $
So Studio Fow got 2 202 586,32 $.

Close but still not taking into account the huge amount of money from early access sales.
