Except they've stated in the past they want to make this game more light-hearted than their typical more darker movies. A better comparison would be to say Mila Red Riding Hood, where its a self-aware, 4th wall breaking porn movie (they even reference that specific film in the game)

I mean... Excessive gangbangs down to single sexual partner? That's a huge step down already.

Probably beating the dead horse here, but I haven't seen anything that outright states it's going to be vanilla relationships only (... not even in the game. There's already multiple alien sex partners which at absolute best case scenario can be downplayed to beastiality.) Even the kickstarter was fairly blatant about multiple sex partners with the stretch goal about alien partners.

I have been shitting on this game since its release but when I heard Bordeux I decided to examine the artbook and my perspective changed a bit, correct me if I'm wrong but they seem to be putting way too much care into the animations which is why this bloody sex game has almost no sex in it, I mean 4 light passes + shader pass for every single scene? Why not just leave a single pass and let the player change sources like Illusion does? This seems needlessly convoluted for no reason. If the scenes were pre-rendered then it would be mandatory but like this they are just doing extra work just for the sake of personal artistic choice at the expense of speed.

That's my whole point. The models are all the same, they hired Ping Ching Chong or what's he's face.. You can bet the models are from Honey Select when that dipshit is involved.

That'd be fairly easy to tell, the scenes aren't pre-rendered, so the models can be extracted for a simple mesh analysis in Autodesk Recap or similar programs. If they did actually use Illusion assets in a commercial product without licensing it, then that's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

With that said, I don't know what kind of personal beef you have with that person in question, but I'd suggest not accusing them of copyright infringement unless you have some hard evidence. Criticizing the art for not appealing to your personal aesthetic is one thing, libel is something else entirely.

Im kinda dissapointed they have left the more extreme fetishes behind for this game since almost all of the videos that made studio Fow popular are actual beastiality, rape, monster etc. But i also understand it from a marketing perspective.

They see a porn game that's top selling on steam and that doesn't look like a flash game and they freak out and buy it not knowing about all the other better content that is out there. On steam this game is sitting at 88% compared to 2 and a half stars on here, showing off the massive gap in expectation from the informed and not informed crowd. They already made I think 2 Million from kickstarter, plus other donations, plus game sales. Even if we know the game is super mediocre it doesn't matter they made their money.

This is actually a good thing imho, the more it can captures mainstream attention the more it'd also attracts actual professional game developers & publishers to think that porn games has very high demands but low supply and give making porn games a try.

The problems i keep encountering with all the good games i watched here is either they're abandoned, in a feature creep hell, just scam, or not handled by professional dev (some were even solo yolo indie dev). They oftentimes got the good ideas but none of the competence or pragmatic drive of a real game devs.

Would you happen to have a link to where these assets have been uploaded? Can't extract the files myself since the assets are encrypted and, in all honesty, it's way too much effort for me to reverse engineer the AES key simply for the sake of curiosity. Also it doesn't really matter if you convince me, I'm just saying you have to protect yourself with evidence if you're going to be accusing anyone of copyright infringement.

You guys are aware using pre-bought assets is not a bad thing, nor is it that uncommon, even in the 'AAA' game indusry. It's a matter of what you do with them. Asset flips are typically lazy cheap games that sell for a low price to make an easy profit. This definitely ain't one of those games.

Studio Fow definitely totally like for real guys properly licensed these models taken out of a competitors game. IllusionSoft did them a solid and handed them their proprietary technology. This happened.

Stop running defense for 5 seconds and really take in what this means. You should be very concerned as a megafan.

Do you realize if there is truth to this accusation, which is clearly out there for it to make it's way here and seemingly backed by poking around in the files, that their modelers stole models/UVmaps/meshes/literally anything from HoneySelect and modified it into what you see in Subverse not only will StudioFow be C&D'd, sued, and the game taken down in it's current form but everything using these assets including prerendered cinematics, modelwork, and rigging will have to be scrapped?

Literally years of work gone.

Considering everything else amateur hour, it wouldn't even surprise me with them coming from the patreon monthly crowdfunding model where they were very used to lifting assets acquired from videogames or modified out of existing internet models. Patreon-subscribestar monthly funding is funding the work not the product, a distinction that allows parody and technically noncommercial modification to fly in a grey area.
Everyone assumed they were going legit and making their models from the ground up, but seems like people commenting that the models look like they're default bodies from honey select... may be due to the models being from honey select. True and press F that kills the game.

When you said "exact same" I thought you meant you could literally swap the maps between games without any editing, but that screenshot you're showing me categorically says otherwise.

Sure, the torso/leg looks similar at first blush, but even without going through all the differences, you simply cannot take any texture based on that UV and apply it to a Honey Select model and vice versa. For example, if you take a Honey Select texture and apply it to a Subverse model, you'll wind up with finger textures on the left calf, the whole back texture will be on the front of the body and legs, leg textures on the right arm, and nipple textures on... what I assume is the vagina. Even if you were to edit the textures to fit, the textures on the hand and breasts would be badly stretched due to the differences in mesh density, and there'd also be missing textures because the Honey Select UV simply doesn't cover everything that's in the Subverse UV.

That being said, I can't say if these differences are because it's a heavily edited Honey Select model or if the similarities are because that's how the modeler cut it up because that's what they're used to, but what I can say for sure is that it's not proof of them ripping off Honey Select models.

Well, no, let's be fair, just because the rumor made its way here doesn't mean it necessarily has any truth to it. We shouldn't automatically defend against it without looking at the evidence first, certainly, but in my discussion with rentegra it looks like a stretch based on superficial similarities.

My question is, who thinks Subverse is equivalent to a AAA experience? Tactical RPGs and space shooters are literally the epitome of anything besides a mainstream experience. If the animations were supposed to be the draw, even they can't even be called spectacular, as there were already Unreal Engine quality animations out on the internet for free. So aside from its gimmick of being a visible porn game on Steam. Because the aforementioned genres have titles that provide FAR better than what this game provides.

Outside of this initial hype I can see this game dying off quite quickly and fading into obscurity, if it can't do anything do distinguish itself.

Do you feel this is attracting mainstream attention? More than any other porn game on Steam has. Really, I can't tell. Because there's been porn in the bestseller section before. And on that topic in the latter section do you think 'real game devs' are better? Because there's been several games that been dropped and forgotten by 'real developers' because their studios found the game wasn't successful. Just as games here suddenly end up cancelled.

Triple A quality is quick, snappy, and addicting gameplay. Subverse is anything but quick and snappy. While it maybe addicting it appeals to different audience than the crowd that fans of this game seems to think will buy into the game because of its production budget.

So, finally found time to try it out. It could be a really good game if they did not go so heavily into story part of the whole deal in my opinion. The writing is probably the least stellar component of the package. I would prefer to grind space ship missions if being honest. Instead i'm reading okayish writing 80% of the time if not more. If they wanted to make a visual novel ( because it feels like it sometimes ) they probably could spend some of those 3 millions pounds on actually good writers. This script is not better than in a good patreon milker, i would even say that i find "What a legend" dialog less tedious, for example. Yeah, WaL story is simplier but in a good way. And they probably still can hire someone for chapters that are unfinished but they are not going to do that for sure. Apart from that there are only ridiculous amounts of loading screens ( between rooms on a ship? are you fucking kidding me? ) and ctrl+c ctrl+v faces. Ah, and some dialogue ( maybe a little bit of interactivity even ) during sex scenes would make it so better. It actually can be a good game. I am quite sure that 3 million pounds is enough to iron stuff like that out.

But at that point we must remember that when it comes to indie pron games devs constantly do not listen to the players and do whatever weird shit they want. Because they are DEVELOPERS, GODS AMONG MEN.

Edit: Ah, so story-heavy part ends after couple of hours. Okay, that is much better. Story does not become better because of it though.

As a person who have no idea how models work, is it possible to steal a model from Honey Select and put it into UE4? I mean, not make new exactly same looking, but transfer it as it is? I have some doubts about it.
