That's why I literally said this in the post you quoted: " If you are bandwidth-limited, I'd say just wait for the final version. "If they keep add 5-8gb to the game size for every update... Buying the game will seem like the better option unless you want to hold off until it's done and download the entire thing then.
And that's ultimately what I'd recommend for bandwidth limited gamers as the better option, but GOG is the best course if they want to buy it so they can refund it within 30 days if desired. I have massive internet bandwidth so it's not a concern for me to re-download the game every time especially since I don't consider it worth any money at this point in time.
