You need to equip the best runes and use your powers right. I watched a guy (Midnight Voice) play the game and he beats every single succubus in one go, with the exception of the spider succubus, but she was made to be challenging (she's stronger that the leaf general of that area).

However he took his time to do everything right:
-invested money on powerful healing items
-always started the fight with Iron Will ON
-Explored the areas for runes
-read the description of every new ability to know what they do

I'm pretty satisfied with the new battle system of the game, exploration and preparation are key to victory, just like a true hunter.

I think the witch is a more complicated opponent due to the damage she inflicts and that it is a different combat mechanic than the succubus I lost against her until I discovered the defense increase tactic

Does he work for free? Cuz if he knows how good his work is you will feel that when he demands cash for each month/animation.^^

Simple loop animations are ok. Only a madman would expect superb frame by frame animations with soooooo many succubus and other NPC in total who will have animations at some point.^^'

Gloriosa is the final boss of chapter 2, so there isn't a way past the blocked entrance yet. You can still backtrack to do sidequests/optional content that you might have missed (for example, the witch sidequest and the spider succubus fight). The last time I heard about it the ETA for chapter 3 was December.
