Status Update #64

Hello, everyone!

This week we revisited Eve's scene to see what more we could add to it before calling it done.

We ended up adding an additional option with a small path like in 0.5 to better match her energy. Earlier in the production stage we thought about making a few key animations as well, but we think the renders will work perfectly as is. We will however be trying the toaster "pseudomation" style in this scene to see if we can give it that extra punch, or slap.

Other than that, we also worked on the Android version and some other small tasks.

We also have a couple of yap topics this week, everyone's favorite.

Fan tier

We appreciate all the support for developing Summer Heat. That being said, Fan tier isn't intended as a paid entry point to argue in the comments. It's for people who play the game and would like to participate, follow or support the development in a small way, or drop their tier between updates while continuing to follow the weeklies if they're interested.

We're well aware that many players come from different corners of the internet, and that's fine. We're happy if you like our game and would gladly hear your thoughts on it. However, sharing your thoughts is completely free and you don't need to pay a dollar to be heard. The best place to share your thoughts is in the feedback surveys, which are posted after every update. There you can tell us about your experience with the development cycle, what you'd like to see more of, and what you think we could or should do better.

You can also drop us a DM on Discord.

Update when?

There’s a good reason why we haven’t set any official dates yet. We almost set them several times already, but now we know that we would've missed those dates. The same is true for the 2025 release window. Unfortunately, that won't be happening.

The 90-95% guesstimation comes up quite a bit during the Update when? discussions. To clarify, that number was in relation to the created planned content at the time. It did not include the rendering times or any of the post-production, AKA The Great Polishing. And until those stages are done, we are not going to commit to any dates. There won't be a shadow release either.

Like many of you, we also would've liked a 2025 release. But after 0.6, our priorities were simple: take the time we need to make an update worth playing and waiting for. We'd never want to rush out something we don't feel confident about just so we can say we released something. We'd much rather release an update that took longer, but delivered a better experience.

And we're not wizards. Ultimately, the only way we can find out if something works is by sticking with it. We trust you'll let us know afterwards.

What we've done this week, in bullet points:

Scene edits

Scene SFX

New renders

Animation work

Android work

Toaster tattoos

Kate Xmas

Sophie's December Special planning (winter theme?)

Other news

Our coder Rob will be gone during the holidays as he returns to the Viking lands. You can expect the next status update to be either skipped, or much simpler.

An opportunity also arose and we've been looking into the possibility of having an office in the
future, as we're changing things up on a bureaucratic level.

That's a shame, but glad they addressed it.
And as always thank you wolf for the news (y)

Thank you for sharing the info.
Unable to get the 0.7 is a pity, but not a big deal. The real thing matters to me is that they finally confirmed whether the update will happen within this year or not. The expectation will inevitably rise higher and higher through time, and I hope the final outcome could meet that high expectation.

Thanks Wolf for the update! Well, we hoped and it got crushed. At least now we know to not expect anything this year. I'll see you mates next year with hopefully Ms. Hill's bazongas! Happy Holidays everyone! :devilish:

I think deep down everyone here probably already knew that 2025 was very, very unrealistic. Still, a certain level of disappointment is naturally spreading. What can you do?

Thanks for sharing the status report, Wonder Wolf. Personally, I just hope that once we head into the new year, it really won’t take much longer—and that they maybe work a bit on the way they communicate. That’s a criticism that, in my opinion, is absolutely fair and definitely an area where they have room for improvement.

Not including estimated post-production time as part of the 100% is not ideal but understandable.

However I have no idea what they mean when they say it also doesn't include rendering times. Maybe I'm too tired to parse this correctly, but are they basically saying "We were 90-95% of the way done, excluding rendering"?

Because rendering is THE bottleneck for these projects. It makes little sense to report a percentage of completion that doesn't take into account the remaining rendering time.

They do mention "at the time" in the previous sentence, so maybe I'm meant to read the next one as "not including the rendering of the content we've decided since".
