I do understand your issues but again it's not a dynamic story engaging market. Just a market purely for lust. That's where genre like ecchi exist. Not the cliche ecchi anime but " my dress up darling" and other series if I look, have much more impressive writing.
I'd rather get what I paid for and play a pipe dream fantasy and be along for the ride. Since I know I can get my cake and get another cake and eat them both.
I usually treat these games like a dumb movie I can turn my brain off to.
(One thing won't stand for is a gross and asshole of a protagonist of these types of games) So I can relate to your dislike of the MC, if it's of a similar amount of disgust I have for those characters.
I do understand this sentiment and I think the popcorn-movie comparison is apt. It's just... there can be so much more. "1Room - Runaway Girl" has a very short but cute story and its decently written. "Accidental Mind" has a great story as well. Even very fantastical stories like "Headmaster" can have crazy things happen without stretching my suspension of disbelief too much by simply taking the time to show how you can go from a normal world to an "ecchi" one.
I think that's what's bothering me most about it. There's clearly talent and effort that went into the very cute artwork for Summer Memories, as well as the overall game flow, but then the devs dropped the ball hard on story and characters. The loss isn't a minor one either IMO, because good writing makes the fantastical lewd stuff more erotic than just "Oh, I guess we're having consequence-free sex now!" Where's the tension and guilt after Rio starts her younger cousin's sexual life? What if Yui's motherliness was amped up, and her scenes start more intimately than rudely waking her up with a titjob? Have Miyuki's self control start to slip as she boosts her ego by teasing her nephew? Taking a little more time to develop these stories and characters adds more context to the sex, which is what makes a game's potential so much higher than an ass-blast of porn gifs or some shitty JAV. Why are these characters having sex? Don't care, doesn't matter, press LMB to cum.

It's a thoughtful line of debate you're pursuing, and you're by no means wrong. However, I feel like the fetish of free use / consequence-free sex relies on the absurdity of the situation as a chief selling point. I don't think pursuers of this fetish, which I presume is the primary audience of the game besides shota fans, care that much about grounded characters with realistic motivations and arcs.

I completely agree with your standpoint, the big selling point of most hentai games besides tits ofc, is the downfall of the characters morals into their lust, then at the end become what the MC is. My favorite part of this game was the slow subtle influence the MC had on the girls. I think it progressed too fast for some of them. I liked the slight guilt Miyuki had in the beginning.
I was most concerned with winter memories story foundation with how all the girls will remember you, even sub-heroines will. Kinda ruining the subtle influence and most of all the moral secret between you and the girl you chose in the last game. (No idea how he had the time to do all those things to all the girls within one month)
Personally I woulda liked it more if you could chose what "girl or girls" you wanted to remember you in the beginning so you can still develop that hidden connection.
I'd then enjoy it even more if once you finish that play through of a logistical story you can unlock slightly more unrealistic new games+. Where all the girls remember you, playing into that unrealistic fantasy.
Overall, yes I think making all of them know you in winter memories slightly ruins the believability of the fantasy. Still gonna get the game cuz the DEV made a very replayable game and the sequel will be far superior
Do agree its rather rushed though its pretty well developed for hentai games in general I find especially since it has to fit into the time constraint set. I will say other main selling point is well young guy banging older relatives.
Next theme probably going to delve further into debauchery (I still can't tell if some 4th red category of scene options is scrapped because I've only seen that once and that was a year ago), like it looks like facefuck is one of the optional positions now.

I don't understand the debate. If you want a deep and engaging plot with story arcs and good characters you can go play any jrpg or Visual novel. Why would anyone want a deep plot and characters when they want to fap? I know I don't.

Boku isn't a name, it literally means "I" or "me" in japanese, it's a male pronoun. That's why so many manga and games have "You-kun" or "Boku-kun" for the MC's name, for self-inserting purposes, in this case it's the default name but you can change it.

when I heard this game was getting a sequel, I was REALLY hoping it would be a timeskip one where boku is at least not a shota anymore. and the story could almost be like a reset where so many years passed by that you kinda have to start all over almost.

Hey guys, since apparently the Konosuba korean mod has the same story as the original game, but with a Darkness skin over Rio, do you know if it's possible to send the files of the translation from the game's base version into the mod to play it in English? Or, otherwise, put the files of Darkness' skin and animations from the mod in place of Rio's in the base version?

Unfortunately, the game is made with one language, so the Jap/En/Korean games are all technically separate games. One could copy over the translation by hard copying each line into the game, but it takes a long while. It would probably be quicker (and less-stressful) to change the art assets of the English version with the mod.
