Well, I am sorry if my game isn't up to your standard but I don't intend to change anything to fit your tastes. If you find it that boring, I trust you not to waste your time playing it. I do believe that there is a place for a story. If you simply what a good fap, Summer Scent really isn't for you. Please, don't torture yourself with it anymore.
just ignore his ass (literally), he's been flapping his gum in this thread for the last two days about this

Question - I played yesterday (started) - today game won't start?
Even after the classic PC reboot and not opening any other program.
Any suggestions?

(other Renpy games work and everything else on the PC is working too)

Some good. Some bad.

The week has been pretty slow. There has been progress on one side and kind of a setback on another side. Let's start with the good.



Steam!

I finally validated the tax and KYC process and I am now a Steamwork partner. That was a stressful adventure. As I live in a quite rural area, my address doesn't even show on Google Maps and I always have issues when filling up that w-8ben form. This time was no different. The KYC thing was another kind of problem. My ID has apparently expired and my driver's license is 28 years old. But it has been sorted out and I'm now ready for the next step. I'll start working on the app itself next week.



Day 6 Scene 28

It's written and cut, ready to be posed. It's 5378 words long and I planned 179 shots to go with it. I hoped to start posing it before the end of this week but I was delayed.



Daz 4.22

I updated my software. And this is where we talk about the bad stuff.

Daz 4.22 comes with a lot of great stuff, like volumetric shaders and improved loading times. However, it also comes with a huge caveat: ghost lights do not behave like they used to in the previous versions. And that's a huge issue for me as 90 % of my lighting comes from ghost lights. I knew I would have to rework the light in all my sets but I had reasonable hopes that it would work. So I spent about two days trying to adapt my usual setup for 4.22 and I got some decent results but with some significant differences. And these differences are very visible, especially in the day scenes. This is a huge issue as I don't plan to reshoot the rework or Day 6. So I'm not sure what to do. For the coming update, I will continue working with Daz 4.16. But not upgrading to a newer version of Daz isn't viable in the long term. I will most likely try to upgrade my hardware next year, and Daz 4.16 will probably be unable to render on an RTX 5090. I won't have a choice then. I will be forced to make the jump. And I don't like that idea.

  • Day 6 Part 5 will contain 2 new scenes: scenes 28 and 29.
  • Day 6 Part 5 will contain 1 reworked scene: Day 2, scene 2.
  • 5378 words of new content so far.
  • 179 shots are planned.

All these paths just ruin this game for me. So much missed content requiring far to many playthroughs and far to easy to miss things without a guide.
Yeah, games with content is the worst. I don't get either why the devs didn't realize we all just want dia shows so we can skip everything and just watch the lewd stuff. It's like the devs thinks we could just watch some porn on one of the trillions of free porn sites. But noooo.... they just have to torture us with something like a choice based story. They even put effort in making a game which gives us countless different content. One could believe they want us players to have something like a long time motivation to have fun more than one time. Pahaha... rookies...

I know. Because of too much idiots I have to use a disclaimer: this was sarcasm.

:p I understand having a lot of content is generally a good thing. I have a hard time with things like replaying games or re-watching movies. I get bored going over the same things again even if there is new stuff in it.

That is true - even when there actually is sex content - going through all the paths to see a little different with the vast majority the same over and over is a bit much. I can't imagine a dev being able to make paths that are completely different. Plus going through all the early boring parts (the early part is boring in just about every adult game) again.

Bravo for the developer, he's one of my top five.eventually a little guide to find your way in all these paths!!? and the top for me a French translation file to better grasp some finesses of the game (traduction .deepl.com) ;)

The week was pretty poor productively speaking.



Day 6 Scene 28.

I started posing the scene but as you can see on the Trello board, I didn't progress much. As always, the first shot of a sequence takes quite some time to pose. It's about initializing the starting conditions of a whole series of images. You have to place and fully pose every character, set up the props, check the lights... These are the foundations upon which the entire set rests. Given the extensive loading times I have to deal with, I really don't want to make a mistake there.

You can also note that I spent some time on "additional material". Scene 28 starts with the team watching TV and I needed something to display on the screen. I had to decide on a very simple story fitting my needs, create a couple of characters and environments, and pose a handful of shots. It took quite some time for just 4 shots but I don't really have a choice. I don't want to use "external material" anymore and I need the screen to tell a precise story as it will play a role in the discussion.

I now have all the material I need for the next 80 shots or so. I should be able to progress faster.



Steam.

I really underestimated the work required to properly set up a store page on Steam. There are many images and text to produce. I thought about producing some new and specific artwork for what Steam names "capsules" (Basically: the banners and the buttons.) but I will finally use the title screen I use at the moment. It works most of the time. It's a bit more complicated with vertical capsules but I think it works.

The real problem is in the text. At that point, I feel like I'm kind of decent when it's about writing fiction but I'm dogshit weak when it comes to promotional stuff and marketing language. There is a ton of text required and everything I wrote so far smells like complete and utter crap. And I'm supposed to seduce the eventual Steam player with that text. I'm doomed.

I hope to be done with both the store page and the initial build of the game and set everything for validation before the end of this month.

I have to confess that I am kind of terrified to make a mistake that would ruin everything. If Summer Scent isn't successful on Steam, things are going to get difficult for me very quickly.

Dev could also work on all paths the same time, you would get one new scene every half year(?) and everybody would complain that they waited so long for only 10min playtime. :-D
Conclusion: Having to many paths in a game sucks without having a huge team of developers.
Dev made the right choice to reduce the number of paths by ending two of them. Nice to have a story ending instead of "no further development". (Yeah the ending sucked; but they were supposed to suck as bad endings.)

Totally agree: I want more of this game!

Of course if you're not on the path being developed you can get a big fat nothing for over a year. I already forget what was going on in this game.

Day 6 Scene 28.

Some progress on the posing. I've posed 59 shots over the 180 planned, so a third of the scene is ready to be rendered. The previews look good so far. I will start rendering this weekend.



Steam.

I wrote all the necessary content for the store page. And I'm not satisfied. I feel like it's not descriptive enough, not enticing enough. Of course, that isn't an objective point of view. There are some things I need to correct but most of the issue here is about me. Because I'll never be satisfied, especially when it comes to something that important. Over the years, I made a lot of progress in letting go of the idea of perfection and going with the "good enough" instead. This is just harder than usual because it's about something rather important.

I'm not even sure that most of this content is that important anyway.

I have no doubt that the core description of the game is critical, but what about the "early access" part? When you buy a game on Steam, how many of you, and how often do you read the "early access" part of a store page?

I need to produce some dedicated art for the capsules. The image I use doesn't fit nicely in all the required sizes. I'm not sure I'll be able to fit the three girls in there. I will have to choose one. Eve, being the most popular love interest, would be the logical choice.

And I just realized that I need a video to use as an introduction. I'm gonna have to contract someone for that as I have absolutely no idea how to do that.

Not sure how this game is going tbh, one of the earliest games I've played since joining in late 2019. The game still hasn't been completed, is it close? Its worth a try again maybe.

You can check the changelog and the dev logs (they are all public), 2 paths have been completed (ones no one cares about mostly), and he is getting it ready for Steam as well.
