We we all link various random elements in this game, then Ocean has set up the Vanessa/MC dynamic perfectly. By this I mean, guess what the MC will use one of Nadia's bananas for... (can you imagine Vanessa forced to walk around her college with a banana sticking out of her coochie?) /s
Okay - so here I am, minding my own business while I've loaded Summers Gone up, music blasting a bit (kind of like my personal radio station) - my intent is to listen to the music as background for mundane house stuff.
Of course... I just Have to replay one of the Bella scenes and here we are:
I marvel at how well Ocean tells this story with not just renders, but the posing that reveals unspoken words - hinting at human dynamics that are likely to be important later, but we simply have insufficient context to understand them for now. Even though I Know that Ocean tells part of the story with changes in expression and body posturing, I still end up clicking through some scenes too quickly and I miss some of the subtlety of the story that I so admire!
So Ocean - thank you for the depth of storytelling that you reveal to us in Summers Gone and cheers to more of this great story in the upcoming CH 5!
I'm not so sure who is bigger sadist, Ocean or people who play the game, Cheeto and Sasha say up front there is no sex... yet. And people play it to complain that their balls changed color to 69 shades of blue-ish...
I understand condescending ... but then adding in an ask for help... now That is a successful way to get people lining up to serve you...
The point I made with including the last two Summers Gone change logs was to show the amount of work Ocean puts into each update - hardly that of a side gig.
If the qualification for being a side gig is one or two updates a year, then Being a DIK and Chasing Sunsets are good examples of side gigs. I see both as significant AVNs where their teams are very invested in their creation - both high quality productions - and certainly not side gigs.
So - I will say it again:
I'd recommend starting Summers Gone the way I would Any VN - by reading page 1 notes, then - if I am still interested - downloading and playing for an hour or two and then deciding if I liked spending my time with that creation enough to continue.
Whatever you decide to do, take the time to enjoy it.
And - thank you for inquiring about my health - I am happy to report that I am still breathing...
2 releases in a year is not really a side job/hobby. Even DPC takes 6+ months for an episode and it is his main job. Though I suppose it depends on how much content comes with it.

I know of creators who do good work and put out monthly updates but they are clearly doing VN creation on the side.
That is all good, so long as they are honest with their supporters.
I've supported a number of those creators for 3-6 months on Patreon/SS as a thank you for what they are doing, but there are very few who do this as a side gig and still get my indefinite support.
The creators I've supported for years are those who deliver consistently high-quality content, with great story telling, renders, animations where appropriate, and - in the case of Summers Gone - Top shelf music.
There are other AVNs that are adding in music but few have made the music such an integral part of their creation.
I'm stoked for the animation/music combo's that Ocean will be sending our way for CH 5 and Season 2 (as well as any upgrades to the page holder music in Season 1)!

Music is quite the key to really make things stick. However a few devs have suffered from music artists a-okaying the usage of their stuff... to only rescind it once they realize the AVN is making the molaah or realizing their product is in an adult game. Then, of course, there is steam and they are a whole different kettle of fish.
I am quite glad Ocean decided to re-render this game and largely re-do the writing. Personally the original version wasn't that good. However the whole "bibi" thing is weird truth be told.
I don't give financial support as I am poor and like eating. But if I were to support. Both Ocean and DPC would be the recipients!

If we take an average of 1600 renders per update, which seems to be true for SG, I'd say that's a solid number. This is comparable to the average size of the first three chapters of the BaDIK. And I’m not even talking about the quality of renders and the artistic level of images in SG, everyone can evaluate it by themselves.

I think BaD had 5k static renders in episode 9 and 4k in ep 8. DPC seems to push himself to do more and more with each episode. Impressive. Though I kind of want to pull him to one side and say "Bro, chill. You did good already.". SG deffo ranks high up there with the visual design. But the sheer depth, and coding, in being a dik is hard to beat. Ocean has a lot of work to get to that level - Fortunately we believe he has the talent to get there! Certainly if this game is anything to go by.
So, how's it looking...
I'm around 935 renders in. I didn't make the four-digits, but that's alright as other aspects of the game are now in active development too. (The phone.)
Regarding the Super big boi Workstation.
Quote from WiAB's last Log: "I came really close to the 48GB with a WiAB scene. But to be fair, I did go into that scene guns blazing with no regard for VRAM casualties.
Still, without the A6000 I couldn't even produce the current scenes. (But I need more of them to increase speed.)
So, regarding the Super big boi Workstation.
I won't get it.
Not because of my finances or anything support related... We didn't even get to that point.
But because of German bureaucracy and the fact that I moved across the country and still wasn't able to declare my new place at the gov.
(I got an appointment 7 months from when I moved to my current place.
So they couldn't even ask the bank without me having the proper address on my ID.)
I will contact them again in August & hope I will then get the green light."
So yeah, it'll take a while until I get the chance to upgrade again.
As mentioned above, the work on the phone has begun. Good boi Messe has created a lot of fantastic-looking UIs for me.
The coding part is definitely the hardest, as I'm still doing it myself. But I'm getting there.
Here's the current main menu.
Progress is pretty fast, even though the phone takes quite a few hours away from setting up scenes atm.

An angry beanpole.
A not-so-angry beanpole.

Progress is faster than I anticipated. I might add the last part of the Rework to the Beta version because there's one change that is addressed in Chapter 5 and might confuse the player who made a certain choice.
Oh, and I finally got a bed.
I've been sleeping on the ground for the past 4 months since delivery times were beyond reasonable.
But finally, I can stop cosplaying a person with scoliosis.
I'll see you in two weeks... I'm really looking forward to the next scene I'll start rendering in 2-3 days. Maybe I'll drop a preview of said scene in the next log.

Yes, it’s hard to argue here, with each new update, DPC is more and more turning into a rendering monster machine. But it seems to me that the progress of the story is still going at the same pace as before there. But now each LI's branch gets an equal share of screen time.
However, I think they are different styles, SG focuses on storytelling while BaDIK is more like a sandbox game with these huge free roams and various horns and whistles in the form of mini-games. Each of these approaches has its pros and cons. I like them both, but in the case of SG, I'd rather have more side stories of the non-major characters, like Maja, Kate or the twins or the lube girl with a mischievous smirk from the locker room than free roams and minigames.

That's the point of sandbox/freeroam. To artificially prolong a game. When you wander around without walkthrough you take much time with less renders. You can loose half an hour on sandbox/freeroam easy To just find everything/everyone/exit. On the end you say; I played 50 minuts, good update. But actually you lost 30 minutes wandering and wonder where the exit it. You "recycle" many renders on sandbox/freeroam game. Not so much on pure AVN.
Before people who like sandbox/freerom game hurt me, my thinking of this is my alone, didn't mean to offend you.
