I'm not talking miracles, I'm just saying that the doom and gloom cynicism is also copium - people not daring to believe someone can actually lay out a plan and stick to it. SG has already got sufficient content to be considered a full game compared to the average game on this site (blue balling aside). So each season (I would expect) should be sold as a separate release. Ocean seems switched on enough to consider that - new music licensing will almost require it. But what Ocean decides, Ocean decides.
Ocean will still have roughly the same income stream from patreon etc after steam, and currently manages to continue development of the games, so any extra steam income can be put directly into investing in tools in the short term. Once steam is up, that is also pressure to deliver ongoing content to keep people making the one off purchases buy the next thing before they get bored. The thing about reinvestment, is that the biggest frustration as a content creator other than finance is not being able to create content at the speed of your inspiration. Every time Ocean loads renders, every time Ocean renders, there is currently frustration. Make a small change, frustration. When I'm working on content and I get frustrated I walk away and waste time, so I don't get frustrated by the progress bar inching across the screen. Reducing the frustration will mean more productivity.
We'll see how Ocean manages, but these worst case scenarios of "we'll be 97 before season two is finished, waaah" "Ocean's grandchildren will be slaves in a rendering farm, waah" are a tad ridiculous. Ocean's already faster than that (well, unless you're already over 95).
