I certainly agree with you on Bella. Back then there was meaning to her psychological trauma, conveyed in the fight scene, Amber's warning to the MC on the drive home, and Ayua's confrontation with the MC. Old Bella really was on the edge of an abyss (meaning she could snap at any time in a Heidy the Hippo way). Now, she just feels more like a typical self-entitled rich-bitch than a deeply traumatized individual.This is the misconception I constantly run into whenever I mention the older version of the game. Everyone thinks I mean the earlist drafts of the game with the fucked up older Summer, the dolphin shit and Vic flying in the air after being run over, when I really mean the 3.0 and 3.5 versions of Summer's Gone. The story that was established right before the retroactive reworks started.
The seriously cringe and juvenile moments were almost all gone by that point. And like you said it's hard to ignore how much more emotionally charged and poignant the game was back then compared to this more bland version. I had like a 4 or five long paragraph discussion with LadyFortuna back then about the Bella fight scene alone. And about how this new version is almost empty and souless when it used to be so raw.
It fucking saddens me that I no longer feel anything when playing SG. That's why I keep crying about it here so much. It's because the game actually meant something to me at some point. Now it's just like every other slop of an AVN that gets produced. Looks great, mediocre taste. Like an incredibly beautiful red apple on the outside that's flavorless and mushy when you bite into it.

The locker room was ch4 I think - if I remember right, 3 ended with NIka questioning going on the date with Bella, and I think the basketball game was in 4, not 3.5, but can't remember. Maybe I just don't want 4 to only be the tabletop update in my mind
MOst of the scenes/renders that are emotional for me were from this point in production on, in any regard. Nami when you have the change of perception, Nia alone, the scene where NIka has a panic attack at the bookclub, some of these hit me really hard. We all have our favourite memories. To some extent they could have been anything - if someone changes what we remember, we lose something that effected us. I guess when something we found an emotional resonance to is missing, well, what's to resonate with?Some of the earlier stuff is less impactful to me than the sum total, but even still, we remember what had impact on us the first time in every situation in life. Incidentally, Bella does a hit and run in CH5, and no one sees that as a sign of her mental instability, everyone just seems, like, cool and normal.
Ayua's warning in the rework, and Nami's defence of Bella in the rework is a step up I'd say, but without Bella having a proper episode, they seem like over reactions.
Yet Bethesda have been releasing content updates faster than Ocean, so not a great comparison...earlier than the Elder Scrolls 6 still

I think you are right about missing what resonated with us. I personally feel much of this on the Nami path, and even though I like S1 more, there are moments of the early versions that I do miss. I think that the end result is way better now, but those little things shined much more before, maybe because all the rest was average or below? I still think that Ocean can deliver this emotional scene incredibly well, to add to those you mentioned, Zara basketball scene on the last EP or the little jealousy scenes of Nami.
I don't think that the story is now bland but I do think that the reworks robbed was a little. And I don't really blame Ocean for it, you can't dive in the same river twice because every time you dive you and the river change. I can write and later rewrite one text and transmit the same idea, but they are not gonna be the same text. Writing is a creative and emotional process; Ocean could not hit the same exact tone twice. That, plus all the other worries of life, two games, Patreon TOS and music licensing, I don't blame him.
The rework was necessary, and those little moments, as good as they were, were among a lot of bad stuff; I don't think he could've done otherwise. I understand all of that, but I still miss those little moments that did resonated with me and no longer exist, I don't hate the new but they don't hit the same tone for me and that is that I guess.
Just to end this absurdly long text, that is not really a fair description of the scene, Bella run "over" two men who was threatening and harassing her and Nika, it could be said it was self defence even, if anything it shows that she is capable of rational think and doesn't respond to every attack by escalating it. Sure, it shows a degree of reckless but I would not call it insane behave.

I love your analogy about diving into the same river. We're nostalgic for something. I understand what's lost, but I also se other things gained. Like the talk with Nami if you don't go with Bella, that for me was a special moment (far more special than Siegfried). I think the problem with some of the new writing is that earlier, it felt like a real time RPG, and now it feels turn based dialogue. THere was an immediacy to Nami, the swearing felt natural, arguments had a good pace. Now the heartbeat is measured, even when there are issues. Over editing can do that. But, the other side is that I now enjoy characters that I didn't before, they have become endearing in other ways.
About the hit and run, I'm simply saying Bella maliciously decided to run into them, not over them (well, into one of them), and then drove off. I'm sure that behaviour wouldn't be acceptable if a police officer saw it. I altered the contrast on the first render - the guy is airbourne, hit hard enough to be up the bonnet, Bella floored the pedal, and is proud about it, smiling. I'm pretty sure they could report her, if they weren't worried about all their illegal shit getting them arrested at the same time. I wonder if Vic was hit as hard by Marla? Flooring a racing car to get someone airbourne is a lot of force.
A lack of remorse, and Bella actually ENJOYING accelerating a car into another human being is shitty behaviour, and not the signs of a socially well adjusted psyche.

Ocean said once that Ayua wasn't a LI but he also said he hadn't decided and Ayua was considered a special case. In Maja's situation, she is supposed to be lewdable, but there's no happy couple with Nika at the end.
Given Ocean's record of tease and denial blueballer tactics, he's probably stringing us along, and do whatever will give him the most chuckles watching us hope, dangle the carrot.

I can see your point and I agree. My point is that it is a cut of a long sequence, if you look only at it Bella comes out as unhinged. When I look at the whole interaction her behavior makes much more sense to me, is it a behavior of a well adjusted person ? Arguably not. Is the behavior of a person I would consider crazy ? Not really. Bella prevented Nika from escalating the situation, asked repeatedly to be left alone and later gave a ultimato, a chance to the other person step away, I can't blame her for acting on it. Be trilled about it and showing a lack of regret are signal of something ? Maybe. I attribute it to a youthful recklessness than a sadistic trait. Although I think anyone on her place would get a little pleasure of out it, give a fuck you to a asshole can be addicted.
EDIT: Yeah, we may lock out and get some lewd action with Ayua or - god helps- the redhead. I just am not having high hopes for it. As you said, he likes to tease the carrot, even if he has no intention of give it to you.

Ahhh, you get a lot of things right in my opinion ....but I'm going to stick to it and insist: a hit and run is illegal in a lot of countries, a criminal act. Video games made it seem common place and a joke, but maximum accelration in a racing car is bullshit, intended to do damage. This is not a prank, but an attempt to injure. In a court of law, Bella would be the one who escalated it past words. An ultimatum like that wouldn't mitigate the fact that she knows what the consequences are. As a racer, she knows better than most how much accelerating can damage someone's spine. If the guy was hospitalised, do you think Ceril would remember whose car was in that parking lot?
There is no way to say that was a youthful prank, any more than breaking and entering was not illegal. Even if Bella is reckless, she is still culpable. She just had a big discussion about how Ceril would love to be the one who brings a Von Halen down, then she does this? The problem is more that Ocean has sanctified her character so she appears to be good, when she's so far the person responsible for initiating the two most illegal acts in the game.

I did not meant to say that what Bella did was right or legal, it was not, just that in context her actions sounds much more reasonable than it does with out it. You make two points that I find interesting, the first one is that video games made those acts more common than they are, and I agree, but then is not SG a video game ? How much licenceie does Ocean have ? Sure, I get your general point but how much realism can we expected in this game ?
I will not pretend that I know physics enough, but also realistic, they were right in front of the car, even with a race car I am not sure that she could do much damage, or that she intended to cause any real harm. About breaking the house, this is the one that is a major red flag, that and the acusation of pedophilia with out any proof are much greater signals that Bella is not a balance person. I really don't see nothing "serious" in the hit and run scene. Maybe is just a matter of perceptive or difference in culture. I don't know. Just don't seem as big of a deal has the home invasion or even hack the phone of the poor woman in the bathroom or the ridiculous plan of using Vanessa as bait. Almost forgot reading her mothers patience notes.
The second is Ocean treatment of the character and that I agree, to some extent. We are given some choices to make Bella's life more difficult as well as guiding her to a more righteous path, I want to see how some of this paths play out and how Ocean deals with the Mila situation to judge if he is "protecting" her or not.

Of course, Ocean can have as much license as he wants, but when Nika says things like "actions have consequences" for something minor like an actual prank, how serious should consequences be? If Ocean ignores consequences for obvious illegal activities while there is a policewoman chasing Bella, it just weakens the writing. I prefer to imagine the consequences will build up, that there won't be the get out of jail free card drawn.
Regarding the distance and the acceleration, the intent Ocean shoes in the render, is lifting the guy off his feet, over the bonnet, and Bella keeps accelerating. does he slip to the side, or go over the top? We don't know. The side would be more believable. But if it was just a bump, he wouldn't be lifted onto the bonnet.
Even still, intent is there. Whether or not realistic, it's still criminal to intentionally hit someone with a car. As you say though, it is just another of the actions that are yet to see consequences for Bella. Meanwhile Nika wonders if Claire will suffer consequences for alcohol on the job...
Regards the second point, I believe Nika will have the choice with each path to help them with their trauma while they help him deal with his.

So I was in a mood and took this as a excuse to do a little replay, and also see if I was remembering this scene right, having just replayed it, I can't really put that much weigh on it. I completely get you point, and I agree, but maybe I am the fucked up here, I don't see anything serious here. Sure, it is a crime, but I can't really see anything significant here. I agree with your overhaul argument that Bella was left out of the hook too many times, but in this particular scene I just can't fault her.
He falls to the side and do not seems hurt in any way. For the rest I fully agree, the game teases a lot of things, both story wise and lewdly. Actions have consequences, Bella's canon race, Nami's past. Nia fivesome, Vanessa femdom, Nami's foot fetish. Unfortunately it kinda goes to the too early to tell. They meet because Stephan has call up Bella to a meting, maybe he will try to blackmail her or something ? consequence to her actions could be more closer than we might think. We can only wait and see.
While replaying one thing pop up on my mind. Ceril is specifically targeting Bella for the ilegal racing and Bella thinks - maybe correctly- that it is because of Amber. The thing is, Bella is not the only rich kid racing. We know that Ayua is also another rich kid who is involved with it and we don't get even a suggestion that she is being target. Now she is being protected because she is a Zane ? Is Bella being target for being a Von Halen ? Both could be true, but if Ceril only wants the glorious of bring down a prestigious family name, why not going after both ? Sure, the Von Halen may be more prestigious but the Zanes are not a insignificant family.
