I assume because it sounds like shortened version of Veronica
It's a guy name too (not Veronica, Nika)

Nika is a powerful and honorable name. ... for a girl.
It's for both

"Nika is a female or male having multiple origins in different languages and countries. In countries the name comes from the goddess of victory " "(some personalities coming from Slavic countries are listed below).

Nika is a female name in Persian, language meaning "very good" and "pure crystal water", it derives from "Nik" meaning "Good", "True" and "Chosen". Nika is also the name of a river in north of Iran. , the ancient Iranian religion believes in the motto "Pendar Nik" (Good Thoughts), "Goftar Nik" (Good Words), and "Kerdar Nik" (Good Deeds).

In the language, Nika is a male given name meaning "grandfather". In Nika means "little" and used to be a popular nickname for the youngest boy in the family.

In Slovenia and Croatia, Nika is used as a feminine form of or . In the , Nika may be a diminutive of the male given names like , , , , , or of the female given name Agafonika, as well as a form of female name . In Igbo culture, Nika, shortened version of female Ginika or Ginikanwa. Nika is a very popular man's name in Georgia"

So, it's a guy and girl name (just like others)

So I wouldn't trust the rest of the article

There are several explanations to the origin/meaning depending on place on earth and/or religion.

Russian, greek, georgian, persian, japanese, indonesian, kenyan..................

Seems it's most common in Russia and the U.S. and it's unisex
Definitely not Russian or Japanese male name (at least not ordinary one). Quick look at wiki shows that it's used as male name in Georgia, Slovenia or Croatia. Not sure about the rest

:ROFLMAO:
What the nonsense dude!
Russia: Nikita (Никита), Nikolay (Николай).
There is no such name as Nika especially unisex! Nika can be used as a shortening of the female Veronika.
Even Niko from GTA was Nik"O" and not Nik"A"!

Nikolai/Mykola (Nicholas)
  • Basic diminutive is "Kolya". "Nikolasha" is a more intimate form. "Nika" is a babyish version of this name. "Kolyan" is a slang form used by male friends.
No? I mean a baby diminutive does fit Nika quite well, as he's not grown up in the way that matters to most people here... :sneaky:
