You probably didn't pay attention, this is chapter 1 and there is the old model of Vic that was originally there. Ocean doesn't like the old Vic and when he started to remake chapter 1 he inserted the new model of Vic.

Here are the old and new Vic models. Can you see the difference?

P.S. The old model was drawn by Regium, the new model was drawn by Ocean.
You weren't paying attention. I posted the ch1 scene that regium did, when Vic is hit by a car.

Here is Regium's Vic again from Ch1 that Regium did:

screenshot0018.png screenshot0019.png screenshot0023.png

This was the original ch1, and was redone. First thing to be redone was replace druggie Summer and Nika with cute teenagers. Then Ocean slowly replaced Ch1. And then, it was redone again. What you've shown are Ocean's renders from the first redo.

Regium didn't have a card that could handle as many models as are in the redo shot. That's why all the Regium renders feel empty.

That's not exactly how it happened. Regium had most of chapter two done, but due to “problems” in his life, he couldn't finish it in a reasonable amount of time. That's when Ocean started rendering, and re-rendering, and re-rendering some more, until he changed almost everything that had already been done in chapter 2. (Among the changes was also the physical change of some characters.) That's when Regium disappeared. As I recall reading, he devoted himself 100% to his studies and withdrew completely from development.
That's a fair distinction. I do recall that Regium asked for more and more help from Ocean, to the point that Ocean took the entire development on (obviously). In terms of what we saw in published chapters though, Ch1 was Regium's renders, (but only until Ocean started doing the remake of the start: I honestly can't remember if Vic's injury scene had three or four versions by now) and Ch2 was mostly Ocean once it was published right?

Exactly, chapter 2 is practically 100% Ocean, but because he took "everything" that was done and discarded it. According to the official chronology, Regium no longer had any motivation...

I don't even know what to say.....
Uhm, say that you're wrong? ;)

Let's face it, while liking a render or not is entirely subjective and there's no right or wrong on that matter, you literally got the objective part of it wrong by attributing Ocean's work to Regium.

Word of advice. Many of us were around and experienced first hand the drama surrounding all the rewrites. And judging by the date you joined, you weren't. So when one of the "old-timers" tell you that you got the objective stuff wrong, take the loss and move on.

I don't understand what the drop in render quality is connected to, and it doesn't make me happy.
Maybe it’s your monitor?
Try experimenting with your monitor’s color profile. In Adobe RGB 1998, all the "darkness" should disappear, and you can use that as a starting point to adjust the image in a direction you prefer. However, for 100% fidelity to the author's intent, you'd need to know what monitor Ocean uses, what color space he’s working in, and so on.
On the other hand, it might just be Bella. :KEK:

There is nothing to argue about, because this is an irrefutable fact.
Most likely within your own narrow worldview. I have no idea why you're complaining about renders being dark when it's supposed to be dark. What's the point? Are you trying to prove that ocean is overrated in terms of render quality? This is probably the last thing you could complain about, since, out of all the games and their renders, he's at the top of his game, competing with only a select few.

Since when are renders with bad lighting settings considered quality? Renders, like photographs, should convey emotions. What can a render convey where you can't see anything?

I've seen enough of people with broad worldviews. They pour paint up their asses and fart on canvas and consider it art. I'll leave the broad worldview to you, and I'll remain an old-school person with a narrow worldview.

I don't even know what to say..... I've seen a bunch of reworked versions of SG except this one. Reworking 1 chapter twice seems like too much.

But that doesn't change the reason for our discussion. The fact that Ocean started making a bunch of renders with poor quality of low lighting has unfortunately not gone away.

Now that it turns out that the old renders from Chapter 1 were done by Ocean, not Regium, it's even sadder. Ocean used to do amazingly beautiful renders with low lighting that were simply mesmerizing.

I'm sorry Good Sir/or Madame but you seem to have equated the lack of extreme brightness to a lack of quality....which is quite frankly not the case. These renders are lush with beautiful ambient lighting which helps to set the tone of the storytelling, they are quite literally BRILLIANT (just maybe not in a way you see as luminous ;P )
It's perfectly fine if you don't care for darkness and/or the charoscuro artistic path but your dislike of the style does not have anything to do with the quality of the renders, merely the way the lighting is staged.

Tell me, do you think these 2 Ocean renders are equally good? If your answer is "yes", could you explain why?

Both have different light sources. How can you even compare those two? You literally have bleeding ambient lights when you are outdoors and controlled ambient lights indoors and turn up the brightness in your monitor, if you all see is black. :KEK:

for last few page ppl debating regarding this "different" quality. While in my eyes, both are great. And if we compare Ocean's work compared other AVN, this is one of the best quality i ever met.

Hell, bcz of SG and some other AVN (like BaDIK, Strangers on Papers, WIAB, Summer Heat), i hardly can play other AVN because the models, lightnings and stories cannot satisfy what i want.

I'm sorry if i'm off topic here, but while we wait SG season 2, maybe any of you can give me reference of good AVN that have similar quality like SG?
