It's so interesting that your in-depth investigation has shown that 90% (that is a huge number BTW), would rather grind their way through a game with no regard for the story than just download some porn (you've heard of porn right? Yes, there has ... it is the conversion of all the art to 16:9 (which is done) and then the repositioning/posing of every one of the characters in the new format, as well as updating all the code that was written by several different coders into one style with proper tagging, flagging, variable tracking, etc. Essentially everything that had been done for 4 years prior to the start of the update was getting an update, techwise.

There are a few others that know better than I, but yeah - it looks like they hired one in early/mid 2020. That was almost 4 years after the start of development. There was at least 3, if not 4, regular updates since that hiring. The tech update ramped up after v0.20.9 a year ago.

There has been 3 updates in the past year that has split the time of the coder from doing the update on the main code while separately churning out code for continuing on the old stuff to keep the the players doing something in the meantime. At the same time, the posers are also having to do double duty.

So, every time we see a new pre-tech update, we are seeing work in coding and posing that is taking away progress on the full tech update. But those appear necessary to mollify the masses.

It's not like the game has particularly good writing, story or gameplay on its own. The porn aspect of Summertime Saga is it's main drawing point yet I enjoy playing the game and have a better experience playing an "in-depth" adult game than watching some porn.

I'd say that's something almost everybody will agree on.
Then again, there's whole range of games and while some literally throw some kind of lew content/sex at the player every second action, others do it differently. Neither is right/wrong or good/bad. Ultimately it's a all about the package and at least to me SS manages to create great nice atmosphere which most other games - especially 3D ones - can't reach. I mean, it's nothing new that SS "lacks" sex scenes compared to many other games. It's been like that from the start and it'll probably stay like that till the end.

Most people won't be playing just one game, so having some variety is actually not a bad thing.

Well, that did pretty much happen. The relaeses became a lot better in the meantime and saves started working years ago. It just seems like they realized pretty quickly that polishing the old turd wasn't enough and now it looks like it's bascially going to be a "new game".

I don't play exclusively for the porn. I just adds the spice to the right mixture of fun and naughtyness. Just like everywhere else.

Example 1: I just started my third playthrough of Rise of the Tomb Raider. And while it always was fun watching Lara's decently clothed backside, I only now discovered that there is the perfect nude mod out that was not there when I last played it. I mean, it's just the perfect game now. But I would never fap to it.

Example 2: Have you ever watched those infamous (unfortunately censored) japanese outpatient clinic porn parodies? I never was into censored porn, but I recently discovered how to create decent english subtitles for them. It's a complete different experience now.

I mean, who would ever think of an interview with a perfectly decent clothed nurse along the lines like "For patients, my body is just a medical device. So they can use me like they want. In deed, I am glad to be used like that", just before she gets banged in every japanese fashion you ever dreamt of, giving the second part of the interview immediately after.

What I want to say: the porn is not all, but it certainly adds the salt.

I am in total agreement. I like Games with a good story and the porn is icing on the cake. To me that is what makes an Adult Game. I don't fault people for just wanting the porn although I feel there are better ways to get that if all you are interested in is getting your rocks off.

I guess I'm different then. If this game wasn't adult themed I would most certainly not play it. Like I said, the writing, story and gameplay mechanics aren't good enough to be a decent game on it's own merit. But for an adult game it's pretty good and I like the content it has outside sex scenes as well.

You misunderstand me, I don't skip through the whole game to get to the lewd content or something. I enjoy playing adult games because well, they're games and they can offer a believable and interesting scenario/story where you can interact with people and maybe even make choices. It's not like I'm bored when there aren't titties bouncing on my screen but I wouldn't play SS for any other reason than to nut or just be horny.

However, even though the porn drives you and rewards you with precious dopamine spikes, the story and the characters in particular, are really what holds it all together. Context is king and without it, the porn would be really boring. I mean, if I needed a quick, greasy nut, this game is definitely not going to be my first choice. Most of the scenes wouldn't even be that great without having gotten to know the characters before hand.

This is pretty much spot on, only you managed to explain it way better than me lmao
