I thought it would be so that when dc is done with the scenes, the others can start working first.
If that would be so, we wouldn't have so many games without any art but pages of dialogs to click away...

You can, if you only want to, do everything in parallel. It's called planning, and mocking. It's done since ever in animation movies for example, when the story boards are being created with dummy images, without special effects, and unvoiced dialogs. You don't need to have the finished images to code around them. You don't need to have the story ready to draw the images, and neither the other way round.

Of course, when it comes to the last 5%, that will take 95% of the time, as always...

Eve can be transgender, not futa. They're completely different things.

Even yours were a good and popular idea, it would take a lot of work to redraw Eve in every scene with such an enlarged cock. That by itself makes your idea highly unlikely, that much more sought after updates have yet to be released makes it even more unlikely to ever happen.

You, a person who has not clue how to develop any games or virtual novels are debating the particulars of game development with a person who is a developer of a game. That is... funny.

Also, attacking a game that a developer makes available to everyone for free is... funny.

Look, not wanting to detract from your opinion, but the fact that the game is practically free weighs a little in terms of the fact that the biggest criticism regarding this is the delay in updates.

Let's look at the facts.
Darkcookie as far as I remember didn't do any art or college of any kind (at least he never commented on the streams) He learned by doing, his team is also made up of people of similar caliber, and given that each of them must have their reasons to continue in the project, some dev's have their own work and do a kind of help for Dark.
He has his family himself, so the time he spends developing the game is limited.

But even so, I believe it delays certain points on purpose... I'm a programmer and I tell you, it's not that difficult to write lines of code for a game like SummertimeSaga, I've already messed with some game files myself to see what I found over there (I know, I do this with every game, kind of a habit like I'm looking for something that doesn't exist)

But, everyone has their own opinion. But both sides have strong arguments.

Yes it does weigh a lot. No, both sides do not have strong arguments.

I don't know how difficult this is for people to understand.

It's a free game for anyone who wants to play it, provided free by the developer. Anything a free player gets, whenever they get it, is still free.

You get it free if it comes out today.
You get it free if it comes out tomorrow.
You get it free if it comes out next year.
You get it free if it comes out next millennia millennium. (edit: happy, Omnikuken?)
You get it free.

If you have paid specifically for a product or service with the understanding that you get the product or service either on a certain date or receive expected services or updates on a certain calendar and then you don't get it - yes, there is a legitimate argument. That is something similar as what you might see on a Steam service, or in a brick-and-mortar business. But that is not the case with most creatives on patreon. That is not the case with darkcookie. For darkcookie and most creatives on patreon, a contributor is donating because they enjoy what the creative is doing - there is no product promised for any contribution.

There is an old saying "never look a gift horse in the mouth." This means that if you are given something, accept it gratefully or refuse it, but to bitch about it is ridiculous. The developer gives this game free to anyone who wishes to play it. Subscribers who donate for darkcookie to continue working on his vision make that possible.

Would it be nice is updates came out quicker or had more content or content I would prefer? Sure! Do I think darkcookie has issues with project management? Sure! Would I like to see everyone on his payroll work fulltime on the project? Sure! But since its free, it's not a concern of mine.

Just because someone wants something free quicker and they may think that the person who is going to give it to them is dragging their feet doesn't give them a "strong argument." Just because they don't understand the economics of the market in which something is going on doesn't give them a "strong argument." Just because they want it now doesn't make it a "strong argument."

Just pointing out that "millenia" is plural. So we expect the tech build around the year 4000+ now

He worked as an artist in game development before.
The thing he had no prior knowledge was coding, hence why he started with Summertime Saga and one of the big reasons the code is messed up. Alongside quite a few switches in between the coders along the way.

As a programmer you should know how difficult it can be to get into someones mess without clear descriptions etc.
Even worse when there is/was more than one person who worked on different portions of it.
Different styles, different usage of code, variables, operators and many more factors.

There's like zero reason for him to delay it. No monthly goals or promised updates.
It's also not like he doesn't want it to end. He already mentioned planning and putting some thoughts into concepts of a new game once Summertime Saga is finished.
I think he'll use that experience on the next game regarding planning, starting the entire process etc. so he won't make the same mistakes again.

There are some factors that deserve valid criticism, but the majority of shit that gets thrown at the wall here is nauseating.
People really need to get back to stuff once it's done. It's a lot more healthy than to waste their time with being angry, for not being able to wank to a certain game for a while.
There's plenty of porn and/or game alternatives out there. It's a niche thats attracting some unecessary angry people for whatever reason.

I';m not sure what your point is or what you're trying to say, you've quoted me saying something I've never said
I just pressed the reply button. I have no idea why F95zone attached your name to someone else's quote. Something to bring to the admins' attention, I guess.

Your name is somehow in there for some random reason. The real quote is from the dude above. Weird

New game won't happen anytime soon (if at all). DC isn't gonna drop STS tomorrow cause he layed down "something" 5+ years ago when STS was barely coming out on Patreon. Even if the ragers say otherwise (cause reasons)

I think that the Team will replace all the old scenes from the women who didn´t had their Remaster Update yet with the current artstyle, maybe that is the reason it takes so much time with the Tech Update. So that Remaster Updates wouldn´t be necessary anymore in the future since they would be done in the Tech Update. This could be a surprise from Dark Cookie to us in which he worked off stream. Then, future Pulls would be just for new scenes and no Remasters for Debbie, Tammy and so on anymore since they would be done in the Tech Update.

It´s just a theory of mine though.

Lolnope. It wasn't polled and never was part of anything. Tech update is wider screen and new places, not remaking the art for 10+ girls

Dumb question, but is this game not widescreen? I can't change resolution. I'll appreciate help if anyone know.
4:3 was the default screen display ratio for Ren'Py for many years (is it still? I don't know). In fact, default screen resolution for Ren'Py was 800x600. The development of Summertime Saga started during those years. See the original goals linked in #10 of my FAQ above to see how the first listed goal of this long tech update is conversion to wide screen.

Whenever i come here to check this thread i always see people fighting over DC is milking or not .
Let me tell you 2 things :
1. For DC's defenders , if game is free how tf he makes 70000/month from it so technically it's not free . Remember people waiting for it so they pay their time for it . And if he doesn't pay you for defending him , why defending him at all ?
2. For people who says he is milking , good for him he's smart enough to make 70000/month from people masturbating, learn to do that too and stop bitchin about it.

This thread supposed to be for downloading and getting new info about game not battle ground.
Do you have to pay to get the game ? No ? Then it's free (not to mention it's like the 1st line on the Patreon page). People on Patreon do something called a donation : they give $ to a dev to tell him "gj dude, I like your project, here's some $ to help you keep doing it". Doesn't change if 1 dude gives 1$ or 25k dudes give 80k per month

It's like PBS, but for a different demographic.
