I was only referring to Patreons rules, not laws and statutes. They see step-shit (not really using that pejoratively by the way, just a sort of nickname I guess) for what it is: a dumb smoke screen for incest. I don't know whether their stance comes from legalities, morals, or even just something like chargebacks but adding the "step-" designation doesn't cut it.

Banning a project because some random person creates a mod for it? That would be pretty ridiculous. It would open the doors for any person who doesn't like a certain game on patreon to have it removed by just publishing a mod for it.

If I had to take a guess if that is the case its more to protect their asses from potential problems / fallout what could arise from someone taking things a bit to close to the line of what constitutes unlawful. If nothing else it would be a way to be cautious and avoid having to defend a position of why they are defending / hosting almost/near incestuous content. Nothing would ruin a company faster then having headlines about how their website is used to host illegal activities so I could fully see that they would have to try to stay a safe distance away from anything incest related
I haven't had a chance to fully read the Patreon ToS in regards to what can and can't be in your content so I can not confirm or deny if Step relatives fall under this branch and I would assume if they do fall under it then it might be a case by case basis in which moderation of content is enacted. So the speculation above is just more in regards to your statement then any concrete understanding of the rules Patreon has provided.

I just wonder why won't people consider using an alternative funding website? There are alternatives and Patreon does seem to be unwilling to support people with a harmless hobby/interests. I'd bet that DarkCookie has enough fans and followers that most people will be willing to follow him to a different crowdfunding site (Me included.).

There is no viable alternative. They all either:
- Use paypal/stripe/other processor which doesn't allow adult content, or heavily restrict it (eg makersupport)
- Already half offline due to abandonment from payment processors (eg hatreon)
- Completely untested/unproved and setup by someone random, and could easily be a scam or could go offline tomorrow (eg adultpledge)
The only place we disagree in your first part is your assumption on why they banned incest in the first place, and since your argument hinges on that, it kinda falls flat man. We don't know the specifics of why they won't allow incest so most of your point is moot. The only things we do know is they don't allow it, this games story foundation has a good chunk of it, and step-shit is a smoke screen that doesn't work. The changes are going to happen. That much is undeniable. His page just needs to come back up so he can assess the damage and answer what his plans are. I don't want to add onto the problem by charging back but I also don't want to put another cent into this project that has lost my interest for now.

I'd say that DC has a possibility of maybe going over to paypal donations with all updates and community communication that patreon usually has. Maybe certain subscription systems could be implemented into his website as well (Although I do understand this would require quite a bit of work to implement and would cause a lot of issues and security concerns that he'd need to deal with, but a simple paypal link .).
I think there is a site called "Podia" which could also be considered a Patreon alternative and seems to be legit as far as I've heard (Simple sign up for followers). Not fully certain about its adult content policies though (There seem to be none as far as I know.).
This is coming from a position of comfort, as I'm not the one who needs to make these decisions and my livelyhood isn't exactly tied to DC's success, and I can completely understand that sometimes bending your knee to stay in your comfort zone is the easiest solution, but I personally despise patreon for what sort of shit they're doing, and I really would like to see creators just stand up and leave that platform, providing the traffic and income to a website that'd deserve the attention.

No. Just as an example, porn stars in CA were pissed about condoms being put into it when there were other regulations. Also, porn is female dominated. But in regards to porn laws, CA isn't really big on that in regards to games.
The answer's been given that it has more to do with Paypal and Patreon being a monopoly, but you know how much people bitch if you try to give a more complete answer so I'll leave it at that.

Yeah I heard the Paypal angle as well. Others are saying Patreon is trying to clean up it's image so it can go public. *Shrug* I was just sharing the latest rumor passing my ears hoping someone less lazy than me could validate it. =)
I'm too busy working on my own stuff to follow down so many leads.
End of the day, it really just boils down to people criticizing other people's tastes, which sucks to the nth degree. But at the end of the day, I have a dozen movie quotes that offer hope...."You can't stop the signal...", "nature finds a way", "....I just need to find a place where perverts are welcome..." :extremelyhappy:
And how they can prove that DC was behind of those patches? DC could say "i fired that employee, he is not my business anymore". And? How could patreon blame DC for unofficial patches being made by one ex-employee.
I guess my point is that they don't HAVE to prove shit. It's their platform and they decide who is on it and their reasons for banning people can be completely arbitrary. They can operate on suspicion alone and there is nothing a creator can do about it.
The terms and conditions are a one side contract that specify what a creator can and cannot do. But there is nothing binding patreon to offering their service if you abide by all provisions. In this situation, they have all the power, and there is nothing any creator can do except make their own patreon site.
That is the only point I was trying to make.

Patreon read the comment to btw. As long as the content didn't include in Patreon main link and Kompas Prod' did not distribute the patches openly, everything is okay. All past troublesome games use this way and Patreon stop the witch hunt. They know about patches in F95 or any other site provide it.
They have no rights or ground to accuse any developer related to the patches, since not just Renpy or Unity etc ... every game platform in this world can be hacked or modded given time and knowledge of the platform. To deny these porn game cannot be patched or modded by another party is just an act of arrogant by Patreon, and they know where to stop. If they persist, this can lead to hurt their reputation as proven that they accusing people without a solid fact.
So patches cannot became a ground for them to stop someone production. And as I said, make it but don't admitted it, case closed.
