Nicole, as of now, doesn't even need to exist. She doesn't have a page on the LI screen or any stats, I don't think she was mentioned as one of the LI's during development either. She seemingly has no purpose, that'll change, but right now she is just there to provide some light drama.

So, you can either breakup with her or be in an open relationship? That is going to cause more drama.

I assume, at some point, they will reunite. Nicole will probably come to live at the hotel. If they breakup, then will she stay around? Or just disappear? If you pick open relationship....well obviously that is a drama bomb waiting to go off. Does that open relationship apply when they are in the same location? Or just a long distance thing? Will she be ok with MC sleeping around, or not? And vise-versa?

I assume they got rid of the "faithful" option because it'd eventually turn into a "open relationship" anyway. Like I said first, she isn't, as of now, a real LI. It doesn't make sense for a side-character to lockout the main LI's of the game. So, the faithful option never needed to exist.

I wouldn't have had any options, "open relationship" triggers too many people, being "faithful" doesn't make sense and "breaking up" seemingly closes a characters story too soon. I'd just let it go and they can figure it out when Nicole comes to the hotel. You can apply some porn logic and have Nicole find out about MC's ways, and be fine with it. Like Jamie from WVM, but not as over the top. No options needed.

This change seems puzzling, but if agreeing to an open relationship means the story will progress with Nicole NOT sleeping with anyone, I guess it really doesn't matter to me.
Otherwise that starts wandering towards the dreaded "3-letter path", something in which I personally have zero interest. (And it's not tagged as such so I'm not really worried that it will, I'm just curious about the change.)

After a quick skim through this update, I think it is actually slightly worse than what we had previously.
The MC now automatically agrees to an open relationship.
I don't think there has been any changes to Nicole's thought processes about the open relationship or how it is presented, and I see no reason why I would want an open relationship instead of breaking up. (I suppose this is the next step up from the optional sharing in DMD for people who don't mind their partner having sex with others)
Ugh, why is this so hard for them to understand? Some players would be fine with an open relationship, others are okay with cheating, and a third group want to not be in a relationship at all so they can explore the love interests without distraction. Thus why a three option choice made sense...

The idea of an open relationship with Nicole comes out of the blue, it wasn’t discussed prior to that conversation, the MC didn’t think “if only I could fuck all of these women without ruining my relationship with Nicole, maybe she’d be okay with an open relationship?”
Nicole is presented as someone who is unhappy with their sex life, is unhappy with the MC failing in his career, and then as soon as her sister suggests it immediately decides an open relationship is the solution... Yet it is a solution that doesn’t seem to solve any of her problems - unsatisfying sex, unhappiness with the MC’s career, etc.

And now the player is forced to accept the open relationship idea and then has to be the douchebag who ends the relationship.

Well at last we have what we have been waiting for months, to kick Nicole out of our lives, I think that all parties will be happy since the option of an open relationship was maintained, which as MrDots explains leads to a Cuckqueen route,I personally decided the option to break up Nicole, she never gave me a good vibe

Wait so now there's open "relationship route" are they going with the whole cuckqueen thing or just an open relationship? I'll break up with her anyway so I don't really care but still.
With the build up, and they way it is presented, there is no reason to think that Nicole will not have sex with someone (but it would not be NTR as MC has agreed to it).
I think the cuck-queen excuse was them trying to recover from the back-lash, as there is nothing in the story that would suggest that route as a possibility.

I have no idea why more people don't realize this instead of being so easily traumatized by any hint of gender equality in relationships.

I expect that despite the update message saying you don't have to replay the Shortcake front desk scene you in fact have to replay the entire game or old saves may not work due to the substantial recoding.

Not that I mind replaying all the scenes with her. She is so cute.

While I can understand that many (myself included) don't want to play games where their character is forced to endure a girl they like being only with someone else and never them, I don't get the objections to sharing. Most games, even if they eventually guide you to a single girl, start you off doing with multiple girls exactly what these players are not happy to have the girls do.

If they only play games in which you can select a single girl and focus solely on her and you diligently avoid relationships with any other then at least they have a consistent world view. But I've seen it brought up in games where the narrative is explicitly leading to the male MC having multiple partners. This is entirely unreasonable.

Sunshine Love doesn't appear to have a harem tag. So presumably this is one they can safely play. Provided they do nothing with any of the other women until the opportunity to break up with Nicole arrives. That means not even going on a romantic date.

After all, NTR is actually having your love interest STOLEN by having sex with someone else. If you two agreed, and especially if she returns to you, she wasn't stolen, was she?

The Good: The Peeping Toms and Doughnuts remain unlocked.
The Really Ugly: I have already set up about 7 save games to prepare for future branching that have to be replayed now and I have really no idea what decisions I made for each of them.

I've recently noticed that when you save in a RenPy game it's actually taking a screenshot (minus certain types of menus.) I always thought it was taking the underlying image from the game and storing a reference to that.

Since it's taking a screenshot, when I save at a choice selection I now mouse over the selection I plan to make so it highlights. That highlight now shows in the screenshot with the save. So if I have to replay, I look at my old save for that choice and make the same selection then re-save. :)

I don't save at every choice, but at any that I think are likely to be significant.

Right?

Prior to this the discussion seemed to imply that the past update wouldn't change, rather the future update would allow the MC to decide to break up or not. So the player could decide to choose "open relationship" or "faithful" and then, because of feedback, there would be a chance to choose "stay in a relationship" with Nicole or "break up" in the next or subsequent update.

The fact that they are changing the past update so the MC automatically agrees to an open relationship and then can break up with her in the next update is disappointing. If they are changing the past update why not just add a bit more dialogue and a new third option (break up)? So confusing...

They make her unlikeable...domineering, self-centered, selfish, callous and unappreciative....then wonder why so many dislike her and want nothing to do with her. They did that...their writing.

Then they bitch and whine because people don't like her and the stupid open-relationship plot. They say they will then change it agree or break up. Then we now get something different again. Man, they sure as hell want you to keep her hanging around don't they? If she was so fucking important to the plot...so liked by the dev team....maybe they should rewrite every scene she is in for the first 3 chapters.

Unlocked

Good morning/evening to all of my loyal supporters.
The team and I wanted to release an updated version of Sunshine Love v0.0.3, as we’ve made quite a number of changes over the past few weeks that will affect the next update (v.0.0.4), which will be released on Saturday, November 28th. You can find it here:
Base game ($5 patrons):
Walkthroughs ($15 patrons):
Game + Extra animations pack ($20 patrons):

We also wanted to give you a chance to have a play through the last update (or the whole game until this point) as there are some noticeable differences.
Something that was heavily mentioned by our fans and also discussed several times with my team was these two options from v.3 (below):

Going by the feedback that we received from you all, regarding this scene, it’s probably become the most important scene in the game so far.
We’ve heard your concerns, and we’ve made a big change to this scene that you will notice in this update.
IMPORTANT:
In the previous version of the game, you were given two choices: “Don’t agree” or “Accept her decision”. We have removed the “Don’t agree” option (staying in a relationship with Nicole).
The dialogue that features in this scene will be you, the player, automatically agreeing to be in an “Open Relationship” with Nicole (for now).
However, during the new scenes in our next update (v.0.0.4), at some point you will be given two new options where you can either:
“Agree with her” (continue having an Open Relationship) OR you can “Break up” with Nicole.
The chance to officially end your long relationship with Nicole is an option that a lot of our supporters had asked us for, and something that we really should’ve included the first time around.
But as we’ve said several times in previous posts, we’re not perfect and things aren’t always so obvious when we’re writing and creating our scenes. But we hope that these two new options will appease many of our supporters.
When you get to play v.4 in a couple of weeks’ time, there will be a “Notification” screen that will come up for these two new options, with further details for what each of these choices will mean for your character in future updates. So keep an eye out for that notification in the next update!
Other changes that we’ve made:
With the help of one of our most knowledgeable supporters, “NabegoPewu”, there have been plenty of changes and corrections made to the coding in the game.
Another reason why we’ve put this version out two weeks before v.0.0.4 is released is because these changes to the code may break a lot of your previous saves.
So by playing this new version now, you can start making or replacing your old saves, which will have you all set to go for when Version 4 drops!
Any grammar errors that you have previous made aware to us have been corrected now, and we’ve also fixed a number of renders as well.
IMPORTANT: PATCH FILES
Due to these recent changes, those of you who have applied the patch that was made available on the Unofficial Discord Fan channel, will have to replace it with each new version that we release from now on. You can find the latest patch there if you need it.
If you are unsure, you can ask for help with this from the moderators over at our Discord Fan Server:
A points error in the Walkthrough
In the last update during the scene where you are teaching Shortcake how to run the front desk, there are several options that you can choose in this scene.
Almost all of the correct options will give you +2 points for her, except for choosing Driver's License > Ask for a passport.
Instead of us changing this, we’ve decided to keep it the same, so you don’t have to play this scene over again.
Let’s just call it a “glitch” on our part. ;)
Last Words
Let us know what you think of the changes and if you find any further issues or problems with your saves or any other error we may have missed, then please list them in the comments section or post them in the #bug-reports-sl channel on our Unofficial Fan Discord.
This will give us a chance to make (any) further corrections before v0.0.4 is released.
We’ll have another preview from v4 posted up in the next day or two, so stay tuned for that ;)
All the best, stay safe, and we hope you are looking forward to the continuation of “Sunshine Love” at the end of the month.
We’re certainly looking forward to finally presenting it to you all!

So breaking the saves means, we have to skip through literal walls of text and choices that in shortcakes case often absolutely make no sense for three chapters? Isn't there an option just to switch some flags with console commands?

You know after seeing the way the devs reacted to the Nicole shitstorm I wouldn't be surprised if they chose to changed it so they could add a forced scene of Nicole getting gangbanged by Black guys as a final fuck you to the people that didn't like the Nicole stuff.

Knowing Dotas, nothing actually would surprise me anymore. I'm waiting on .04 then may ditch this completely, which would be a shame as it started promising. I should have known better though judging his past writing/games.

I'm the same as you I was keeping an eye on the game hoping that it might end up decent but DMD bored the hell out of me and dragged on too long and should have finished a long time ago. Melody also was boring as hell and I couldn't finish it without skipping scenes.

I was hoping that this game might be better and it is because I fucking love learning about cooking hoods and knives and can't wait to see what interesting and engaging writing is going to come up next I have the tissues ready .:Kappa:

I'm going to be honest though I'm interested to see how much money Mr Dots and his team makes once they eventually stop dragging out DMD and end it since that is somehow their most popular game. I don't think this game is good enough right now to be as popular but we will see I suppose.

They could do that of course and it is their right since their game, just I would suggest them to go off social media for a month or so and not read any remarks here, on discord or their Patreon for quite a while. :p

Well I am also in the camp that think they fucked up with the development of Nicole after the original setup of chapter 1 and suspect they got other intentions with her development that sounded cool and fun to them, just they forgot to change the game and her enough to allow for it after the start and underestimated how big a first impression of someone makes.

I'm going to be honest I kind of hope they do what I said just because of how much it would trigger people would be funny to me.

I do think that a lot of devs underestimate just how important a first impression is in these kind of games. If a player doesn't like someone they are stuck with them for a while till the game updates and possibly gives them some character development or gives the player the option to get rid of them just like Nicole in this game.

I'm guessing they're doing it this way because the MC is going to be a crybaby for weeks after the break up and they don't want to redo half the game.

Well having the MC break it up does seem like a step to growth for him, taking some more control in his life finally after having crawled away from life more or less since his mom died and let others decide all major decisions in his life for him. Team set back MC very far from being a healthy proactive male capable of taking care of himself in the setup of story even if he has quite a few talents. Will be kinda hard to balance that well for them going forward with the story. :)
