It's just a reply to the "strong empathy" post above.

You get a dead end when she cuts off your head. It is pretty obvious what is going to happen. She takes away your agency to do whatever she wants with you for her own goals. Do you think she's doing the MC a favour here or something?
We don't know what exactly she's doing, but when asked about Ella, Aglaecwif says something about how she'll even sacrifice those she's close to to save the world or whatever it was.
She's ruthless and pragmatic, but that doesn't mean she doesn't care.

Again, it wasn't at the start. This was written into the story later. She liked the MC, sure but as a possibility out of many, including Jake.
Really? There's a massive difference between how she treats the MC and how she treats Jake.

And she feeds monster pills to people at the MC's college and then culls them when they don't make the transformation into a superhuman.
Actually, she doesn't. If someone has a bad reaction to the pill, indicating they wouldn't become a superhuman, she knocks them unconscious and kills the monster that comes for them.
It's superhumans that later turn into monsters that she culls, like Troy.

i think his point is that those parts are still the same and don't match with the ella WW has been developing in later parts of the game where ella is clearly written to "care" about you and that not tracking with early game stuff. i'll admit playing the game all the way through and having her be a cryptic asshole who seems to view you as a tool or a pawn and then for her park meetup to be like "by the way i actually care about you even when i do really fucked up things to you or those around you." is pretty telling of some kind of shift in her character that WW decided to go all in on going forward even if it clashed with earlier characterization.
Even from the very beginning, I never got the impression that Ella didn't care about the MC. She initially came off as an annoyingly vague plot device meant to keep the early lore ambiguous IMO. As a result, I only interacted with her when the story forced me to. However, I always got the impression that early on there was a least a small amount of pride that she had in the MC. You can clearly see it in the Jake Arc. From the conversions that Jake would have with the MC, and with himself, it was clear that Ella talked about the MC off-screen A LOT.

Man, I really need recaps between updates. I could remember the big plot points from the previous update but I can't recall all the smaller details being referenced

Yo, Imagine, Malik and Wasting Mommy are fighting, Malik is OP, but for some reason his abilities just arent suited to fight someone like her and he starts getting bested and overwhelmed, burnhard is also taking his sweet ass time getting to Maliks location while hes getting beaten silly. Now, I heard Weird individual say in one of his streams that out of the big three only burnhard is the one who has no baggage or side effects whatsoever to his power, he became that OP just cuz everything went right for him, he is unbound and the best superhuman there could ever be, unlike Henry who has a god inside of him, or Malik who also has some sort of side effect or condition for his omnipotent power, hinting at the voices talking to him. Now, after being unable to defeat the wasting mommy, we get more lore as to why he has strange voices inside his head, and why he is so unbelievably strong, after that those 'voices' get the best of him and he loses all control over his power, then starts emitting a fuck ton of heat, matter, energy, whatever, basically he goes big bang 2.0, he turns into a giant expanding big bang ball of life and death, consuming the entire universe or the 1st sphere overtime, this creates another, apocalyptic problem along with whatevers going on on earth. Henry seeing that decides to give in to his omnipotent godlike power, or whatever god's living inside of him, and literally copies the entire universe or sphere 1 and pastes it somewhere else, essentially become the center and controller of the new copy pasted universe itself, like azathoth from cthulu myths, (I thought the sleeping god in lovecraft books who dreams our universe into existence was called cthulhu not azathoth, and since cthulhu was Henrys team name and seeing him become exactly like a superhuman version of azathoth would've been a pretty cool foreshadowing in my headcannon, fanfic...theory), this new universe is unstable however and everything looks messed up and distorted, like the distortion world from pokemon platinum.

Yeah this is a recurring thing that's kind of easy to let slip by if we only focus on the things meant to piss us off. Cuz yeah, we're supposed to be annoyed that she withholds information. We're supposed to be angry that she manipulates situations to get MC into those fights. And it's so that our choices about whether to trust her or not feel like they matter (among other things but that would get a little text wall-y). We're supposed to feel like we're taking a risk in trusting her if we choose to.

It starts as some fairly obvious hype with that thumbs up she gives as MC is getting chased by two Apostles. Goes into expressions of approval in the initiative he shows to go out testing and improving his new powers on his own and asking her for help when he needs it. Showing pride in the fights he wins, and appreciation when he listens to and trusts her with a sincerity she never gives to Jake or even Cole. She rewards him and no one else with deeper intimacy for training to the limit of what he's capable of getting from it. She's constantly excited about the idea of MC getting stronger while with Jake she's constantly angry that he needs so much micromanagement and oversight, and Jake followed her directions better than Cole has recently.

Damn I want Ella to come back and see MC at some point after he hits level 4. She'd be so damn thrilled and I wanna fuckin' see that.

I disagree. Being independent and relying on her own strength is like a fundamental pillar of Ella's character. She explicitly says how important individual power is and it is a clear through-line with almost everything she does. If we embrace the idea that this single quality is THE quality she values, then Ella caring for MC and doing what she did to him from the very start align perfectly.

She wants MC to succeed but believes that unless he can grow stronger on his own, he will inevitably die. So she arranges challenges that offer both mortal danger and growth opportunities while also teaching him to be self-reliant, to not trust anyone. And the attitude he develops as a result helps him against her and against HERO. Then, when she thinks that he's gone far enough along this path to see its value, she reveals more to him. She's still corrupted and a bitch, but her brand of care is quite consistent.

I mean yeah, thats the whole point of ella isnt it?

She knew what would happen and took the steps necessary to get the MC to a point where he will be able to survive the future (and maybe/probably be the solution), she said it herself, if he would have failed these challanges, he would have died sooner or later anyway.

And of course she treats/sees MC very different, they knew each other since childhood and he already had a special spot with her back than, additionally hes the child of a chosen, the "chosen one" for whatever shes working on and the one (depending on the players choices) who told her to protect her.

Since we're nearing the end game, was there any real consequence of killing off side characters when given a choice? other than they just not showing up again in the story. Also I used to do a separate corruption run until the game just gotten too big to replay everytime, since it didn't seem to change the story much.

Oh she cared about him in the early game but that was more of her viewing him as an useful tool or object of amusement. There was even moments where if she thought he would die, she would shrug and move on. Very odd to use Jake as an example, most of her interactions with Jake where her planting a false image of the MC in Jakes mind to manipulate him and making an explicit requirement that he must kill the MC, she would use talk of the MC to make Jake angry.

When people say early Ella and mid-to late game Ella don't match up, its her going from "the MC is dead, that sucks, back to the drawing board" annoyance to someone who would be really hurt by his death.

Does anyone know an estimation for when the next update is going to drop? From what I understand its a long way down cause WW is also developing 1.0 along with the next update.
