I don't need to downplay Jakes powers, they are inherently weak to ANY physical spawn, which is why Ella LITERALLY TOLD JAKE TO FIGHT MC ONLY WHEN HE HAD FULL CONTROL, and to overall stay hidden and grow stronger. Why? Because even if attacking him is "ineffective" because he turns all hits into grazes (not complete misses, only people who cant hit him are those he heavily outscales), being grazed by a literal ton of concrete does WAY more damage then he himself could put out. Yes, whittling the sense of self is very strong in a controlling sense, but you can't stop rocks from falling on your head with just that. At any point in the Jake vs MC battle, MC could have brought the ceiling down on top of Jake and himself instantly ending the fight. Hell, Deryls weak ass stone spike traps completely stopped Jake from moving, and those werent even perfect by Deryls own admission.

Battle sense is the ability to efficiently and effectively use what you have to defeat your enemies. It means taking advantage of your enemies weaknesses (which MC atleast tried to do with the face of mia. It would have been way more effective had he used an actually damaging attack, like a bomb or gas instead of poison that literally disappears after leaving his body for a few minutes), the location you are in (a building made of heavy stone is a more damaging weapon then any poison), your talents (he does this, but poorly. As someone near immortal, any aoe is way more effective then simply fighting straightforward), and finally being able to recognize when something isn't working and change tacks, which he failed to do with jake. He literally fought jake so poorly that he almost lost, when he was surrounded with better options, and decided to keep trying to fight through poison and lacerations that merely grazed Jake, even after Deryl joined the fight. At any point he could have got distance, like during Coles battle, and let the two wear eachother down once he realized they were enemies.

Finally, yes, any inherently negative outcome IS an L, by literal definition as i just stated. I DID NOT state that taking Ls was a bad (or good) thing, only that he has taken many, and thus a win (technically this was in reply to someone talking about evolution) that he actually gets himself versus a major previously named character like cole, wouldn't be charity nor him being overpowered. Speaking of OP, how in the hell do you get "you like people who win every fight" from "he has lost so much already"? You seem to be commenting with the notion that i like overpowered MCs, which i have NEVER actually stated anything close to that sentiment, and as such are currently fighting a strawman.
why would you revive a dead conversation just to argue more

Guns are so ineffective against Jake that they literally cause Looney Tunes scenes to be recreated if you try to use them. The plasma railguns weren't explosive anyway, their rounds just had electrical properties that caused the MC specifically to explode.

Explosives, incendiary devices and gas grenades are all caused to miss by meters if used on Jake and he's still a Level 2 superhuman, even if a non-physical one. He's been shown to be fast and tough enough to bulldoze his way through solid wood and dodge falling debris with no damage, any of those things being thrown at him is going to do chip damage at best or nothing at worst. Trying to detonate something up close would work if he isn't expecting it but explosives would outright kill them both and gas would actually be less effective than the poison. A firebomb would probably work quite well but would be expensive for the MC to heal from since fire messes with his regeneration. However, Jake would definitely survive it and power through the pain to call reinforcements.

Throwing large debris would actually work to a degree, but thanks to his passive defence it's still highly likely to completely miss if Jake's in good condition and if he's expecting it he'd have the capacity to dodge. The latter reason is also why dropping the ceiling on Jake would be unlikely to work, and it definitely wouldn't be an instant win condition like you're making it out to be. Jake did all that fighting after getting pumped full of the deadliest poisons on earth and clipped by a heavy object moving at near supersonic speeds. He definitely wouldn't get one shot by roof pieces.

As for the free-for-all, neither Jake nor Deryl are stupid enough to just let the MC walk away whilst they fight each other. Trying that would probably have resulted in him getting dragged back into the fight via psychic command by Jake and Deryl capitalising on the distraction to get a cheap shot in on either of them.

And what exactly is your beef with the MC using poison? It was potent enough to hurt a Level 4 Ella in a Dead End, why wouldn't he use it on Jake if it does damage over time, forces Jake to burn MP purging it and is so agonisingly painful it disrupts his ability to control the MC?

You have a drastic misunderstanding of Jakes powers. Guns, bombs, gases, hell even knives are ALL effective against Jake, as he is no more durable than any other level two. The only reason they miss, is because Jakes power subconciously affects the wielder of said weapons to make them WANT to miss. If you are stronger then him, broke out of his control already, or hell, even have bad aim, they will all be able hurt him. The only reason MC had a tough time is because he is an idiot using tiny tentacles and blades to cut him, trying to get him to bleed and suffer from poison.

"He's been shown to be fast and tough enough to bulldoze his way through solid wood and dodge falling debris with no damage, any of those things being thrown at him is going to do chip damage at best or nothing at worst."

Lmao at you mentioning wood as if it is in any way impressive. Anyway Deryl, at that moment, would 100% kill/fight Jake first, and try to face off against MC alone if he had backed off because he is that much of an egomaniac, and he recognizes if he tries to truce with jake, jake would just stab him in the back (which deryl had already done so at that point).

Finally, poison (venoms, technically, but whatever) are THE WEAKEST WEAPON IN HIS ARSENAL. Not only do even the most toxic, modern, and deadly poisons in the world (Stingray venom isnt even top 100 lmao) struggle to get their time-to-kill under 10 minutes FOR A REGULAR PERSON, Not only is he using them on more durable beings who can lose gallons of blood and live, but even stranger is that he uses them knowing ALL LIQUIDS THAT SEPARATE FROM HIS BODY DISSOLVE INTO NOTHING IN MINUTES. Meaning the stuff dissolves shortly after injecting it, so he has to literally inject GALLONS of poison into someone to hope to kill them. The only benefit to him using them is if he wanted to make people feel pain (specifically jellyfish venom is more "cause pain" then "kill" venom), and nothing else. They would literally be the non-lethal option, lmao. If you are curious why Ella acted how she did when she learned he could use poison, is because it showed he was a perfectly blended spawn who could use the memory and body.

"Deadliest poisons" and "bulldoze through solid wood" omg

Compared to being poisoned? No it doesn't.

There's zero reason to believe Jake's power wouldn't interfere with this the same way it interferes every other time someone intentionally tries to attack him.

"Close fights make the MC look stupid, why didn't he [poorly thought out fanfiction] to win the fight more decisively??" is actually extremely close to that sentiment.
All liquids dissolve minutes after they leave his body. Think about that for a second, please.

Ive got some questions since I haven't really played this game and I was hoping for some guidance. Regarding the shapeshifting and how prevalent it is, I dont find taking control of a female body and getting fucked appealing. Nor taking over someone else's body and sleeping with their partner. Im cool with impersonating people to gain information but thats about where my interest ends. With all this in mind is this still a game I should bother playing or should I just move along?
The game focuses on body horror and story more so then sex, so if that is a problem, i would definitely move on, but otherwise its a good story. All darker and/or sexual things are avoidable without hindering the story as well. There is no turning into another persons husband and sleeping with them except a completely avoidable moment where you sneak into a bad guys base and sleep with a security guard, but they themselves were having an affair together (both were cheating on respective s/o) before you posed as him. That said, the only sexualish mind control is like 3 moments: the first boss, who has the ability to spew a black oily substance on dead bodies, making them controlled zombies, a bad end shortly after you beat him where you willingly accept to take his power (optional) as you eat his brain (optional) and a character who DOES have legitimate mind control, and even uses it to try to sexually assault people, but you can both stop him then and later kill him if you want. A victim of the first boss who "survived" the incident and has turned into a blend of zombie/oil monster later considers you her "master", but other then her having no clue of her history and respecting you out of fear, she isn't controlled. Also, you can turn into a woman to do cheerleading things (your own character you name, you aren't copying anyone), and that can develop into a relationship with people, if you want. I think thats it.

I understand Jake's abilities fine and what I said still stands. Jake's passive defence isn't as easy as "drop big rock" or "use bomb" to completely bypass. Clone Deryl used gas, explosives and flames against Jake, and his passive defence still meant Jake only took chip damage because he was fully capable of evading most of the blast radius. None of that is helped by the fact that, as previously iterated, he's still superhumanly fast and tough enough to walk off getting clipped by heavy objects going near supersonic speeds aka borderline 768 mph.

Hence the poisons/venoms (both are used in-game), because whilst he has enough MP to maintain his passive defence landing clean hits on Jake is borderline impossible. Box jellyfish venom is absolutely lethal and not "just" painful, and as Klaus almost died finding out the hard way it works perfectly fine on superhumans too. Some species have been documented causing hearts to seize up within 2-5 minutes of contact, and the MC isn't using one venom type, a singular dose or normal sized doses.

As for Clone Deryl, ignoring the unlikely event that Jake would just let the MC leave, I still stand by the idea that he'd try and prevent it too. Firstly, he's still imprinted to Ella during that fight and thus is still focused on killing them both rather than flexing on the MC at that point. Secondly, he's poorly matched against the MC and he knows it. Most of the damage he took during that fight was from the MC after all. And thirdly, Jake's the only thing in that fight actually keeping the MC on the ground. Letting the MC go and fighting Jake alone would have meant later fighting completely exhausted against a partially recovered MC who now has air superiority.

i dont understand how this is number 7 for a search for renpy games with male protag under best rated. someone enlighten me
Yep, I searched with weighted ratings, with some excluded tags, and sure enough this is number 7... how is this one of the best rated games on this site ever? Everyone and everything is emo/goth, judging by the screenshots. It's like a time capsule from the mid 2000's. It's like I'm rewatching Internet Historian's My Immortal videos.

Well, here's a hint, had you used a bit of your own intuition, you might've figured it out for yourself.

A quick glance at the front page from a newcomer reveals that this game was posted in 2021, and it has 1466 pages of comments from a active and dedicated community of fans, has almost 500 ratings, quite consistently very positive, gets updates consistently, and it has dozens upon dozens of hours of content, I never counted, but I believe it should take atleast 30 hrs of reading time.

Now, if all of that is not enough evidence for you to maybe realize the game might be worthy of more than just a quick and superficial look at the screenshots then I can't help you.

number 7 huh ? It should be much higher in my opinion.
The game is extremely well developed, don't let the art in the beginning fool you. A lot of dedication went into this, and the art gets better and better. And the writing and plot is very expansive and captivating.

Honestly, idk why you want people to ''enlighten'' you.
Like I said to the other guy. The fact that this thread has 1466 pages of replies ( currently ), almost 500 reviews, gets updated consistently, should give you the hint that it is in that top ranking for a good reason.

He didn't take "chip damage" he was drastically injured and could barely move. Every injury he got stayed (which is the reason actually damaging blunt attacks would be better, more broken bones less dodging), because unlike MC, he doesn't heal (infact the only thing he COULD actually recover from was the poison). He is also NOT superhumanly fast, where the hell did you get that from? Are you mistaking the movement lines from the fight graphics as sonic booms? Jesus.

You know what else causes hearts to seize and stop within minutes? Losing pints of blood, which is survivable by most spawn. Let alone it dissolving in the minutes necessary to actually stop a heart, it would be way more ineffective then simply causing bleed or blunt trauma. Also, for such a "fatal poison", it mostly kills because people get stung and don't get medical attention. Its extremely survivable for regular humans, let alone spawn, as most of the victims are children.

Even if they tried, both Deryl and Jake understood MC was the most dangerous there, and if he could dodge the gunfire blasts that would have literally caused him to explode, he could dodge deryl and tank jakes pain (as he did the entire fight). Also, deryl was mostly human, and Jake couldn't move, so neither could catch him, meaning the instant MC started moving away, Jake would have to attack deryl, because as soon as MC was gone, deryl would attack him. There would be no teaming up, because one wanted both dead to prove himself to an obsession. Note that during his spiel he literally has a ego driven "i want her to need me more then you, because i am better" beat.

Except you're not watching a video, you're looking at some screenshots, which obviously can't give you the full picture.
Also, multiple people in those screenshots are clearly not emo/goth.

I saw the numbers, thank you. Big numbers, big good (y).

My question was more related to the general style and look of the game, hence why I referenced "emo/goth" and "My Immortal". I mean, look at it. Everyone has black eye-liner on, everything is bathed in this black atmosphere. It's so angsty. Can you not see it? Not to mention the plot synopsis which doesn't fill me with optimism.

And to the "...superficial look at the screenshots...", I would argue that the purpose of the opening post is to make the user who sees it to try out the game. So don't get offended by me, blame the "marketing material".

But hey, if the updates are consistent and there is plenty of content, then fair enough.

Haha, sorry sorry, you know, now that I look at the characters featured in the screenshots, a good number of them do seem to use the black eye-liner, guess I just grew truly blind to it after so many hours of immersion :ROFLMAO:., and many scenes are not painted in the brightest colours, so I can see where you're coming from.
But nevermind, really, the game is anything but a angsty-filled, goth game, don't worry.

The art in the beginning is also very amateurish, compared to how it is in the later half it's night and day as the dev improves his art massively, so trust me, if you have the time, download it, stomach the first few hrs untill it really gets going, and you'll see it's one hell of a ride.

When I jumped into it my expectations were also very low, at first I thought it was gonna just be maybe a few hrs of meh writing and maybe some decent porn, maybe some slapstick comedy here and there, the story and premise also seemed very surface level, at first that is, but the first few hrs turned to ten, then to twenty, and so on. The charaters that seemed simple at first deepen their motivations and personalities and the story which seemed small expands rapidly as more and more depth is added.
Truly, the screenshots, the synopsis, and any first impressions don't really do the game justice.

My bad, I assumed you were capable of making logical inferences. I didn't know you're mentally handicapped.
Let me spell out my point for you.
Some screenshots can't tell you how a VN is in the top 10 highest rated games on a website.

If you're not hooked by the screenshots or synopsis, that's fine, but to act like it's inconceivable to you that the game is the 7th highest rated game on F95Zone when you haven't even played it says more about you than the game.

To throw my two cents into the ring regarding the MC and Jake:

The plan MC had from the beginning was to kill Jake as quickly as possible before he had time to use his powers. He knew how Jake's passive worked, and knew that hitting him directly was going to be a challenge. Thats why he tried the poison stinger tentacle boquet as his starter move - try to maximize his chances of landing several hits to take him out instantly. That failed, so he had to use extreme mental concentration to be able to land even a single hit.

Also, let it be said that the dosage of venom cocktail in a single tentacle was enough to have security guard the size of Michael seizing and foaming on the ground instantly after being struck. That speaks of a dosage/potency far outstripping anything in nature. Another reason to use venom was to provide long-lasting damage and debuff Jake's ability to use his powers. As a level 2 non-physical superhuman, Jake could resist the toxins to a point, but his fortitude only meant that he kept being conscious throughout pain that would have instantly incapacitated others. That couldn't have been great for his control.

As for MC's poor battle sense, honestly, what the fuck did you expect? MC is a baby warrior still at that point - he has had next to none actual training. His mind would be doubly burdened by the psychic attacks made by Jake and the relentless focus he needed to actually power through the commands and Jake's passive protection. How was he supposed to make full use of his limited experience and tactical acumen while his brain leaked out of his eyes and ears? I'd go as far to argue that Jake's passive protection could have compounded with the intense mental load MC was operating under to make him not use such tactics.

And lets be honest. Neither of them were about to tear down the roof or set off more explosions outside of Alice's artillery support, not with Mia still in the building. Deryl was the only one throwing around explosives later in the fight and he only came back after Mia was retrieved.

What makes me reluctant to try the game at first about the art was not the goth/emo style but rather the pornified female body proportions with giant boobs.

Like these ones :
1756126259089.png 1756126501343.png
They have superpowers but it must not be easy to move with those breasts.

But you get used to it and the story is pretty great.
And although it's not the focus with not that much content, gender bender (M2F) is a fetish I really like

Firstly, Mia wasn't in the building, and never was. She was "kidnapped" by MC, alice and michael from the hospital, and Deryl pretended to leave and came back with the weapons he prepared, so the idea of him not even thinking about doing it is not because of collateral damage. I don't even know where you got that from.

On battle sense, even a baby warrior knows if what you are doing isn't working, do something else. Hell, this isn't even a baby MC, he has fought klaus in a battle much, much harder then that one, and understands he wont die easy, because he has already CUT HIS OWN HEAD OFF.

The poison working while anything else seperated from his body dissolves is a plot hole, tbh. WW probably wanted something cool for MC early in the game, before it even got this big and wrote "poison" because its cool as fuck. Remember, MC gets poison as early as like the 2nd or 3rd training session, meaning first few releases of this game.

Firstly, Mia wasn't in the building, and never was. I don't even know where you got that from.

I dont want to 'Erm, Ackhually' you, but MC directly tells Jake after calling Michael that Michael is taking her away from the prime minister's office, blatantly stating that "keeping her in this crumbling building can't be safe."

At the point in the story the Jake fight occurs, MC isn't yet completely aware of his flaws as a fighter, those realizations happening after Michael criticizes his battle performance. It is only really after that when MC begins to seriously hone his on-the-fly tactical thinking, because he needs experience and outside help to become totally aware of his flaws. And still he remains somewhat of a Himbo. I think that my original point of MC not having the clarity of mind to come up with a better tactic that what he already had is still valid, a tactic that for all its flaws, still gave him victory. Even if Deryl hadn't shown up, he would have still won.

As for the poison decaying, yeah it does vanish slowly- However, Ella has stated that things cut off from her and the MC's bodies evaporate because the energy inside dissipates into the air, meaning that the degradation of the toxins was vastly slowed by being hidden from open air inside Jake's body. (Granted, it didnt really stay there for long, on the account of, well, all the blood loss). She even states that regular infusions of power, an airtight container and a few thick layers of paint were what kept the doll she made from her flesh from evaporating.
