You cannot force someone to like a specific thing you like. People might not agree with your point of view and might have a different opinion on the matter.
And why is there even the need to choose between one and the other?
There's people out there that actually like more than just one genre. I'm one of them.
In RiA you have free roam, yes, but there is no "grind" in a conventional sense.
You complete your events in one stage, you advance to the next level, you get new events.
There's no need to to even one event twice.
In RiA we have believable and loveable characters. Characters that care for each other... that don't want to hurt each other.
It takes time to advance further in a relationship and that's what you need events for in a free roam game.
If there were big jumps in progress RiA would not be as believable as it is imo.

Its not leveling up to 7 its events with them at 6 that got upgraded. Try seeing them at home at different times of day!

When you're at level 6 you need to go to the shop, buy both dresses and play both date events at the weekend (M&S).
You can just skip through them by holding down CTRL if you know them already.
There's also an in-game walkthrough at the top of the screen that tells you what you have to do next.

When those are finished you can go to dinner at 6pm, choose the "Just eat"-option.
The option to play the movie night (level up event) will appear.
